Well, we know for sure LA is a good fit, so I guess Jeff Carter wins this debate.

Agreed that it was the best thing for Jeff Carter's career to grow up.

My only comment is that I'm glad he's gone, glad we got a good return for him, and glad he's doing well someplace else.
Period.
He never would be playing as well here and we all know it.

Embracing the notion that his skill set is more suited to playing wing than center ice has helped Jeff Carter. This is something he did not do in Philly or the 5 minutes he spent with his panties in a twist in Columbus.
- johndewar

Carter didn't have any problem playing the Wing in Philly. And he was effective. And Carter's skill set is equally suited to playing Center. As he is very good on faceoffs, and solid defensively.

Carter scored 47 goals in a Season in a Flyers uniform. Don't include me in the "we all know it". It's pretty obvious now that the injuries are what affected Carter in the playofs when he was here.

Well, let's hope he becomes a 93-goal scorer. I'd have no issue with that. I'd also have no issue is he is only a 25/35/60 guy who plays well at both ends (assuming Lavi or some other coach preaches a more defensive scheme...which could lead to more offense though) and remains a key member of both the PP and PK units.
- jmatchett383

Voracek hasn't been a key member of the PK unit to this point.

Yeah, he had many problems playing wing from what I (and many others) recall.

That's what you provide to show that Carter had many problems playing Wing. A webpage from Hockey News that states that Carter is versatile enough to play wing or Center. And an article that the headline says Zherdev could mean the end of Carter in Philly? That entire article is filled with innacurracies that show, without a shadow of a doubt. That the author doesn't have a clue!

Yes, I do. Including the fact that Carter scored 46 goals in a Flyers uniform to refute the statement that Carter wouldn't play well here. And there are a lot of other facts that can be provided.

Jonathan Cheechoo scored 40 goals in a year. Was he a good fit in SJ? May I hear some other factual statements?

Cheechoo also had a 50+ goal season, before a variety of injuries disrupted his career and robbed him of his quickness. Carter had no such injuries. He had a few nagging ones, but nothing that turned into a chronic situation like Cheechoo

A professional athlete. Who signed a contract fully well knowing the business aspects of the game.
- GirouxForTheShow

He was also given a verbal guarantee from the GM who signed him to that deal that he was not going to be traded and that he was a cornerstone of the team, days before he was traded. Nothing illegal about it, but kinda a crap hand he got dealt.

Was he not a good fit in San Jose? What are the reasons why Cheechoo's game deteriorated? And what does that have to do with Carter? I'm open to anything you want to discuss about Carter and his time here in Philly.

I know it's just 1 moment in time out of all of them, but his shot from the circle right into Niemi late in Game 6 haunts me. Not saying he wasn't talented, but unfortunately, when I think of him, that always comes to mind.
Overall, as long as the rumors have no substance, I had no problem with him, and I think all 3 teams involved in his trades made out well.

The shot was deflected by Campbell. It haunts every Flyers fan. I was and still am a huge Carter fan. I love the trade and I'm glad it was made.

I have no horse in this race. Carter was a big forward with great skating ability and one of the best shots in the game. Some times it look like he was floating, others he would carry the team, especially in lieu of a Richards injury where he was heavily relied on. He played softer than I would like for a guy with a big body, but he is more of an offensive threat than a physical player and I can understand that. He was prone to cold streaks, but a lot of goal scorers are. But your fact was, he scored 47 goals one season that one time, and using that you implied that it he would be doing just as well here as he is in LA.

Look at that shot percentage jump... And yep he was hurt for us a ton but I still think he plays better in LA...

Yes, the fact that he was among the top goal scorers in the League when he played here. Is evidence that he could be just as effective as a player here, as he has been on LA.

The injuries were a huge factor in his ability to produce when he was here in the playoffs. What was his shooting percentage as a Flyer in the regular Season?

I'm fine with the trade and that it was made.

And I will admit that it made me smile to read the box score this morning to see Carter and Richards with the assists on the game tying goal.
