By all means, trade him, buy him out, rocket him to the moon, whatever gets him off the team and off the ledger.

Nobody embodies the lack of discipline, inattention to detail, boneheadedness, and casual two-way play that has plagued the Flyers for years more than Hartsy.

Be careful what you wish for. I don't like the length of hartnells extension, but power forwards wih his skill are hard to find. I've seen nothing from Simmonds that leads me to believe he can move up and take his spot

If they trade Bryzgalov, the cap recapture issue still is a factor.

It's better if they used a CBO on Bryzgalov and could possibly trade Briere. I just don't see anywhere Briere would agree to waive for, when he can still get most of the money on his current deal, plus more money on a new contract, if he's bought out.

- Jsaquella

Bingo...CBO only alternative should they move on from Stalin fanboy.

I think the coaching is the culprit here. The guy can do what he wants out there and still be on the top power play team. Ill give Scotty the benefit of the doubt for the end of the year. Maybe he wasn't fully healthy.

But buh bye Danny boy

Ultimately, hockey is a business. The Flyers will act based upon their own salary cap needs. Briere should act based upon his needs and the needs of his family. He's given the organization his all, both on and off the ice. He owes the team no special favors to "save" them a buyout.

Well said, Bill. Couldn't agree more.

Tell us how you really feel Hawk,
I could see moving him for the right pieces... But I won't cry if we keep him because I think last season was an anomoly. I excpect him to bounce back in the scoring dept next season. The bad un-disciplined penalties will never go away. But Rinaldo's hair isn't long enough to pull so Hartsy has to keep that up...

Without having seen the game, I'm not willing to judge Bryz on this one.

Anyone able to watch it that can summarize Bryz's work?

This.... The cap recapture penalty scares me with Bryz's deal... And yeah most athletes don't retire early these days, but this would go into effect if he gets fed up and goes to the KHL.

Hartnell was coming off of a 37 goal Season. Two choices. If you want to sign him to a shorter deal. The Cap hit goes up. A player is willing to take a deal that results in a lesser Cap hit in exchange for longer term security.

Read Bill's blog. He gives fair assessments of Bryz. Most regular folks on here don't.

My gut feeling is that Bryzgalov is coming back. But I would not be shocked if the Flyers decide to buy him out. Roll the dice with Mason, and add a cheap veteran backup. Something that they would do. They're risk takers.
- MJL

I wouldn't be shocked, either. I'd be disappointed if they bought him out this summer, but not shocked.

Can you trade for a player's buyout hit? Could you trade Briere for a player like de Haan and Yashin?

Doubt that Backstrom would sign for 2 years. And If he would, it wouldn't be cheap. And I assume he wants to be a starter.

Becuase you cut down on the cap by approx. $3M and get a guy like de Haan.

This is all theoretical anyway, since you can't trade for a "buyout". But my response was why would you want to take on Yashin's remaining buyout cap hit? Because DeHaan is that good?

You cut down the Cap hit by 6.5M by trading him or using the CBO.

oh so, varly also gave up 4 goals. hmmm...for some reason i imagine all the focus will still be on how stalin made bryz a horrible goalie and nobody will say a (frank)ing word about the other guy. i'm going to lose my mind.

I think de Haan can be that good, no idea if he will be. I didn't know if you could trade for a player who is bought out or not. The question I was asking (if it was possible) was whether you'd want to cut down on the ca by $3M and get a prospect, or cut down by $6.5M and add a player. Since it's not possible, it's moot.
