With that contract? Not a chance in hell I want him on this team. After years of suffering through RDP's contract I'm not about to add Luongo's gross one onto the payroll. Neither will Snow.

Nobody is taking that contract. I'll take a stab at signing him when he gets amnestied.

- eichiefs9

Every year there is some contract that "nobody will touch" and it ends up getting handled more then Lindsy Lohan!

There are only 2 players in the world I'd *possibly* take over JT
Crosby and Stamkos

If JT had better linemates he we would have had probably 10 more pts this year (not exaggerating).
And what is most admirable about JT is he is a phenomenal competitor and a great character. He will point his finger at himself before ANYONE on the team, and he works harder than anyone in the off-season to improve. Leader and competitor wise, he and toews should be in the same sentence.

- Danformo

Crosby yes if 100% healthy.. of course

Stamkos not a chance.. he can score, but not by himself.. JT can make the players around him better.

I'd always groan when Carkner was put into the lineup...but I can't deny that the team looked different in a good way when he was in there especially in the playoffs. I don't know if just his presence in the lineup gives players a bit more confidence to do their thing knowing he's around, or if he's a solid locker room guy, or if it was all just coincidence...but I'm reversing course on Carkner and will say I'm glad he'll be around next season.
- UIF

I would agree, I think Carkner developed a lot since the beginning of the season. In the playoffs he looked like he knew when to pinch in and when not to. Not saying he will be top for but he should provide some good depth and a nice plug in when you play teams that are physical and have some big PF's. Also, I think he is still young so he can still improve his defensive play.

You want to take on Luongo and that contract? Hes got too much time and money left on the deal. You'd be overpaying him at the end of the deal for years of declining play and he'd be untradable, just like another isles goaltender...

I'll give you Crosby, though as I said before, due to his past health issues, I might even find issue with that one. There's no question when 100% healthy, Crosby is the best player in the world. Problem is he's another nasty concussion away from joining Lindros. I also think while Crosby is a good kid and leader, Tavares actually has better character.

As for Stamkos, nope. I love Stamkos' skating ability and his quick release is the best since Bossy and that's the point. I put Stamkos in the category of a poor man's Bossy whereas Crosby and Tavares, due to their incredible instincts, are more of a poor man's Gretzky/Lemieux. They're far more completely players than Stamkos.

Luongo, yes...the contract..NO. Even by Luongo's own admission, his contract is an albatross. Loungo will be 43 years old when his contract expires and his contract takes a $5.33 mil annual cap hit. If the main argument against DP's contract at the time he signed, and rightly so, was that it's too risky to extend a goaltenders contract for that length of term due to injuries etc, then how can one feel about a traditional butterfly style goaltender being guranteed another 11 years up until nearly his mid 40's?

I don't think anyone will trade for him this offseason and we'll see him bought out. At that point, if the Isles want to throw the same amount at him over say 5 years, fine.

Which is why I don't think there's any way he'll do it. He's learned his lesson with Yashin and DP. If JT didn't get a 10 year contract, no one will.
I have complete confidence in Garth when it comes to finding decent goaltending options.

He'll go to the "bargain basement bin" like he has done in the past...

Yeah Mathieu Biron is a free agent after this season I can see him coming back. I really don't know what to expect this offseason but to be honest with GArth I dont expect much

And that failed how? He got Roloson who was exceptional while here. Montoya played damn good. Nabby has been awesome save for the playoff series. I'd say he's done quite well in that department and now we're at a point where he'll be looking for a more permanent solution. That said, I don't think it's even necessary to go the free agent route. I'm more than willing to allow Nabby one more year splitting time (actually SPLITTING time) with Poulin and going from there. If there's a better option via free agency, fine.

I really don't want the curse of being on the cover so if he loses I am fine with that

Exactly. Its not that Luongo isn't a great goaltender, his contract is insane. You're paing over $5M per for a goaltender that is likely to be mediocre at best the last four years of the deal, provided he doesn't get injured before then like RDP did.

The only way you take Luongo is... if he is bought out or come with extra incentive.

Maybe a first round pick or a prospect.

With the salary cap going down... the Isles will be perfect trade partners for anybody looking to shed some $$$$.

great season from the isles, with a center lineup of Tavares, Strome, Nielsen and Cizikas for the forceable future this team will be more than good enough to compete, plenty of wingers coming in all you guys need is D and to hope Poulin is that #1

funny....until you consider the fact that Subban already lost.....so.....

but it is DEFINETLY confusing Simmonds beat Malkin, if he beats Tavares too they should just hand it to him i say it'll come down to Tavares vs Datsyuk tho
