You don't think Schenn + Read for Kane + picks would fly?
- JAKEw1234

I dont usually like to trash trade ideas, because I come up with enough crazy poop of my own, but hell no.

I'm think Winnipeg would more be after Schenn and this years 1st.

Or Coots + (perhaps Read)

The thing with most of the Flyers young kids. As of right now, its all just "potential".

They are, sure, but it's not as if Hartnell or Simmonds are a type of player who isn't fairly highly coveted around the NHL, either. Power forwards, who play with grit and an edge to their game, and can score 25-30 goals are hardly common commodities.

I've read a few of the Vancouver beats speculating that the Canucks might be willing to deal Edler because he can be inconsistent, and they have suggested names like Simmonds and Hartnell. Without that basis, I wouldn't have even assumed Edler was available.

No they aren't common commodities. But they are a hell of a lot easier to get then defenseman like Edler are. We've spent days on this board talking about how hard puck moving top defenseman are to get. And how teams are locking them up early. And they aren't even making it to Free Agency. And how critical it is to draft and develop them. Is it possible that Vancouver would trade him for Simmonds? Sure, anything is possible. But I'll believe it when I see it. I'd jump on that so fast.

Thats my thing.

As much as I like Edler, I wonder if a guy like Giordano could be had for cheaper.

Edler is a good player, but can also be a real liability at times. Not the best at handling the physical game or stuff in front of the net either.

Is Giordano more consistent with similar skill set? I'll be honest, the Flames are the one team I have seen very very little of this year.

As would I, without hesitation. I'm simply acting off the articles from the Canucks beat writers.

I'd be OK with Giordano, too. I don't think he's markedly better than Edler, though.

Giordano is a little better at handling the physical game, and bringing it as well. Both can be at times inconsistent in their own end.

I'd say his shot is probably better as well, and he can QB a PP fairly well.

In terms of offensive contributions and helping the transition game I'd say Edler is the better player however.

I dont know if Calgary would be willing to trade him, but he would probably be cheaper to bring in, without too much drop in play. I'm a Giordano fan though haha.

Edler for Simmonds, Gio for Read, and all the sudden we need a better forward core cause our D is stacked

If I can get Edler for Simmonds, I stop right there and roll with:

44-22
Edler-5
29-8
41

as my top seven.

I think it's a pretty fair trade for both teams, with maybe us having to add a decent mid-level prospect and/or a higher (2nd 3rd round) pick.

Just busting balls, its amazing trying to find the proper balance between F/D/Goaltending. If we get Simmonds for Edler, I think I trade one of Coburn or Meszy.

There's Canucks fans offering 2nd or 3rd rounders with Edler for Simmonds.

I would rather keep this years 1st. If good 2-ways are so hard to get, why isn't pulock expected to get picked top 5, being the second best projected 2 way dman in this draft?

Why? They need defensive depth. There's no reason to bring in one top four and immediately shuffle another out the door. Meszaros and Grossmann have injury concerns. So does Gustafsson, to be honest. Unless they face a major cap crunch-which, with a CBO of Briere they shouldn't-there's no reason to move Coburn or Meszaros right now.

See exactly my thing I think it's much closer than MJL thinks in terms of trade value. Players like Simmonds are exactly what they need. What the Flyers need is for the defenseman to stay healthy and play the game they are capable of playing. Does Edler help, certainly, but I think Simmonds fills a bigger role for them.

I would just hate to trade one of the real few guys who basically tried every shift. As well as having room to grow.

While keeping the rest of the consistency crew.

True. I'm just not crazy about having a 4 million dollar cap hit sit in the press box. Although, it would just be for this year.

Actually in terms of physical play, Edler and Giordano are very similar. Edler is easily the better PP point man and much better offensively. And fairly equal defensively. Edler is the better player.

There's always trades that get made in the NHL that even the astute fans kind of shake their heads over.

Prior to the Carter to Columbus deal, several of us were not overjoyed with the return that was rumored(which actually turned out to be right) prior to the trade going down.

When the Pens got Neal and Niskanen for Goligoski, a lot of folks panned the deal that Nieuwendyk made as not getting enough value.

He's not although a solid player I'd be happy with for the right price. But Edler is significantly the better player in my opinion.

That's what I mean, though. I'd rather have it be Hartnell + 2nds and 3rds for Ed than Ed + 2nd and 3rds for Simmonds, and Hartnell still fills all of their wants.
