Keep in mind you need to get a Guy like Simmonds/Hartnell as Much as we need a D Man
- BernieKorch

We do need a top 9 player that can score, but I wouldn't give up a #1 defence man for either of them straight up.

The reason Edler has dropped down our depth chart is because our style of play has changed to a defence oriented system. If the Canucks played a high tempo game, we wouldn't be discussing an Edler trade at all.

Honestly trading Edler is a mistake. If we are going to be trading a defence man, it should be Hamhuis.

I'm still pissed that the 2nd round pick the Nonis sent to LA for Brent freaking Sopel was used to draft Simmonds in the first place. This whole Simmonds/Edler dicussion could have been put to rest if the Canucks just kept the pick and selected him.

I can't wait to see the gem tha Dallas drafts with the Canucks 2nd this year.

That we need a forward as much as you need D is agreed. That we need Hartnell per say is debatable. Apart from his all-star year where he was getting feeds from uber-playmaker Giroux his career stats would indicate he's a mid 40 point player with physicality that can take a lot of ill-advised penalties. Not something we need help with.

Simmonds PT/G : 4.7
Edler. PT/G : 4.7
Timmonen PT/G : 4.2

If Philly is seriously considering submitting an offer for Edler, it's because he WILL be their #1 guy.

Simmonds ++ or B. Schenn + will be the starting point from Gillis' side, and he'll get close to that from someone for Edler. Especially since these kind players are almost never available.

- Gullzy

Simmonds by himself would be more than fair. Simmonds ++? What a joke. Your fellow canuck fans have even stated they would be more than happy with it. Don't expect anyone to bend over backwards and help you guys out of the serious cap trouble you're in.

I think Edler for Simmonds is a good trade for both teams. It fills holes in both rosters.

A trade with Philly makes too much sense for it not to happen.

If Edler's getting traded, I hope it's for a top young center. Simmonds is a RW and we have Burrows, Kesler (who SHOULD be playing RW), Kassian, Jensen (another LH who prefers RW), Hansen... Trading Edler for another RW is a waste.

While I agree, a lot will depend on who is behind the bench next year.

Why would one of the best 2 way centers and faceoff men in the league play the RW

I think with the promise he showed at the end of the year, at least that. If given the opportunity to play with top tier talent, and fellow Swedes the sedins, he would really flourish. That being said, I just couldn't see us trading him anywhere within the division. We definitely couldn't take back Edler in a trade for him. As good as Edler is, we can't afford to get any weaker to play against on the back end with all our small players up front
- Ihatebrianburke

Not sure if you watch Edler play but weak he is not. He's big and hits like a truck, just doesn't always do it consistently and he doesn't fight.

Also anyone playing with the Sedins tends to put up career type numbers so if MPS requires that level of support before he can provide value then he's certainly not worth an Edler.

- Ihatebrianburke

Because he's absolutely (frank)ing useless at creating space, distributing, and staying healthy in that role. I'm willing to lose 5 (more) out of every 100 faceoffs if it means there's a guy in that role who makes his top 6 calibre wingers a threat to score 5 on 5. Kesler doesn't. He does a better job of shutting down his own line mates than he does shutting down his defensive assignment.

Unfortunately, I think there's too much coke available in this city for Dubinsky to be a worthwhile gamble.

Let's put it this way, if he's not working out as your 2nd line C he wouldn't work out as ours either. And certainly not at the same cap hit as the Sedins.

Might be true but I like what he could bring as a 2nd line C. Short of getting a high draft pick I'm not sure how many young centers are out there of interest.

Has anything happened in the Cancucks org in the past week or is Gillis still letting the intense emotion sub-side?

He will be making far less after next season. He is playing well in the Worlds when he has better line mates than David Jones and Aaron Pulashaj or a beat down Milan Hejduk who just doesnt have it anymore.

Thats the thing he is bumped down to 3rd line center bc of Duchene and O'Reilly in front of him and doesnt get the minutes or line mates that those 2 get. He has skill, just has been over thrown on the depth chart.

I think Gillis and his boy AV are in hiding hoping the Leafs loss will keep the hockey world in lol's long enough for them to avoid any repercussions.
