To me I don't doubt most Canuck fans on here know exactly what edler is and they have described him quite well ... It's when they all start comparing him to recent defenseman deals and are expecting to get the same ... dealing a d man is tough now ... Look at the Erik Johnson deal or Alex goligoski ... Absolutely awful deals that most likely won't be repeated - Redmile247
I don't think we're expecting a James Neal (a top liner) to come back for Edler. We are looking for a solid top 6er though, which I think is completely doable. Alternatively we swap out Edler for a high draft pick(s), which I also think is completely doable. How high, of course, is up for debate. |

Just out of curiosity, what is it that you are basing your opinions on?
Awful deals happen every year, GM's get fired, new (sometimes stupider) GM's get hired. - 1970vintage
Not to mention GMs making trades to save their position. That Martin Erat for Filip Forsberg trade at the deadline was an atrocious bit of business by McPhee. |

Pffft. Would need to be Yak for Tavares - Iggysbff
Yeah MVP canidate that can actually take a team to playoffs..... for a rookie that played on what your 2nd or third Line..... on a team that was close to worst in the league.... Keep on Smoking |

I haven't read any of the trade proposals so I really have no idea what people are all up in arms about, but I look at it from the perspective of what would it take to pry Edler out of Vancouver, because that's what GMMG will be thinking if anyone comes calling. Edler is not on the block, but other Team's GM's might feel he is available due to the depth of LH D, but really is the D so deep? I think not.
Now, if someone were willing to take Ballard and/or Booth along with Edler, that opens the door to all kinds of other scenarios. |

I believ all these teams are better equiped to win a cup over the Canucks. I would put us equal with Minny. We may have ended with more points than some of these teams but our division had something to do with that. I left MTl and Wash off the list but they may be better than us too. - VANTEL
Come on man... stop going by the past.... Philly is not there. |

I've argued on here a bit about edlers possible return and many posters have thrown those deals at me saying edler is better so the Canucks will or should get at least the same return ... I feel that they won't get quite as much ... Just my opinion tho |

This is the deal I'd like to see with NYI:
To NYI: Edler, Schneider (Or Luongo)
To Van: Griffin Reinhart, Nino Neiderreiter
Then maybe send Nino to Buffalo for Vanek!

I actually don't mind a couple of the offers I've heard on here ... Getting one hartnell or simmonds is a possibility ... The devils 9th could be a go ... The hurricanes 5th probably will cost more simply because I think the Canucks won't be the only team pursuing that ( if they were , who knows ) .... but when I hear edler + for a couple of the flyers forwards ( simmonds , hartnell, read, couturier , schenn ) just don't see that as a realistic deal |

I've heard all the arguments. Tavares being nominated for the Hart as the 17th overall scorer is a complete joke. And to say he did it all alone is even a bigger joke. Moulson and Boyes are good. They also have some good puck moving D in Lubo and Streit. Everyone said Tavares made PA Parenteau what he was. I think he proved them all wrong as he scored more this year with out Tavares. Moulson scored 44 points this year.
Hall score 50 points in 45 games. 3 more points in 3 less games.
Tavares 12.7% of NYI overall points.
Next highest Islander Moulson 44 points
Hall 14.6% of Oilers overall points
Next highest Oiler - Gagner 38 points. not even the same line.
So I disagree that none of the Oilers 3 first cant hold Tavares's jock strap.
But what ever. Keep the Oiler hatred alive... - Iggysbff
You guys finished close to the bottom of the league again. So how much impact did those points have for you. The Islanders gave the best team in the playoffs a run for there money, led by JT...... it certainly wasn't their goal tending.

Explain to me why several Phi fans said they'd make the trade, and several fans of other teams also commented that several of the deals are plausible, if offers 1-10 overvalue the player?
Perhaps you're undervaluing Edler a bit? - Fosco
They just don't understand what a playoff team looks like. |

I wouldn't call the Goli and Johnson deals awful, but they weren't great.
The difference is that Edler is much better than both.
The market for big, offensive puck-moving D is a sellers' market. |

Keep in mind that a top pairing D is quite high on their need list. |

Did Dallas fire their coach yesterday? When is it our turn? - LeftCoaster
If Gillis hurries up and fires AV Dallas can pick him up. Then AV can say I want Luongo .We can trade Luongo Kesler and Bieksa for Eriksson Dillon and a first .
Sarcasm
On a serious note today Bob Mackenzie ad Matt Sekeres are insinuating Canucks may trade Lu to NYI for Nino N and Rocky D and buy out Rocky. Thus the increase in ticket prices to accomadate buyout. |

It's not, but when you're looking to strengthen areas of weakness (in our case scoring) you've gotta look at other areas which can be scarified to make the trade (in our case at G or D). You've gotta give to get.
And if Booth or Ballard were paired in a deal with Edler, it would hurt our trade position, not strengthen it. Best to forget about Ballard and buy him out, maybe the same for Booth. |

I have heard that rumour over and over in the last few days . It is out there . It would actually turn out to be the fans paying for the buyout.
If they can move Ballard and Booth for peanuts seeing they both have two years only then FA might accept the buyout of Rocky instead of Lu and pick up a top end prospect .
They could even package Ballard Lu for Nino and Rocky D and keep Booth for two years. |

I think it depends on who is available at the 5 spot ....I'm not saying any team will offer a single player who is better then edler but they might package something better |

Far too elaborate and expensive. I just don't see it being funded by the increased ticket prices either, especially when the Canucks struggled to fill seats at the end of this season and playoffs (Game 2 slashed spare ticket prices by 50%). This isn't TO where people will pay any cost regardless of the quality on the ice. |

Have Canuck fans looked at other teams that have gone out in the first round as trade targets ( wash , MTL , leafs ) or even the jets ? |
