No Canucks core has won a cup.
1 team wins the cup a year.
I've watched them not win the cup 29 times and enjoyed every season, regardless. - Fosco
They also came pretty damn close to winning one with this core back when AV at least employed some sort of an offensive system. Th best team does not always win the cup and this core is still good enough to go on a run if healthy, with the right coaching staff and system in place and if Gillis makes the necessary adjustments needed to the roster(not blow it all up). |

They were both in the Conn Smythe conversation before the Boston series two years ago. I wouldn't call that MIA. - Fosco
8 goals in 7 games for the team . That conversation must have been very short. |

Not sold on that as a top line. They all seem like similar players, and I don't see the pure skill and playmaking that most top lines have but that's just me. I still maintain that AV's system and the coaching in general was the biggest problem for this team's lack of scoring. That being said, I wouldn't be against trading Edler for Simmonds at all. - Nucker101
One of the reasons I'd prefer Schenn to Simmonds. |

Pffft. Would need to be Yak for Tavares - Iggysbff
Kind of funny that Yak is getting less hype than most recent first picks, I guess a lot of it has to do with the fact that he was drafted by the Oilers but he's going to be a hell of a scorer. IMO Taylor Hall is also flying under the radar a bit when you look at his production compared to other young stars in the league. |

So if we are paying the guy that is always injured to be a center and no one has faith in him why is everyone so hell bent not to trade him? - VANTEL
Before this season, Kesler has't missed more than 10 games since 06/07. He's played a full season 3 of the last 5 years. The broken foot injury this year was just pure bad luck. I could see Kesler thriving under a new coach if used correctly. |

Doubt the Flyers trade either Schenn unless the deal is just too good to pass up. I bet they'd rather move Hartnell in a trade with some team for a top 4 d-man. |

If kesler had a centerman to play with he could be far more consistent ... Why have we not seen kesler with sedins ? |

6 or 7, if I recall.
I remember the names Thomas, Lou, Sedins, Kesler, Bergeron and Krejci thrown around.
Still means they weren't MIA until the Boston series, when pretty much every Canucks was MIA.
Playoff losses can't be pegged on two players, ever. |

That's not an overly strong argument for staying the course. I'm not saying deal the Sedins, but I do think it would be prudent to at least see what a player like Burrows or Kesler could fetch. You may have enjoyed all 29 seasons you've watched, but I guarantee that watching your team win will be sweeter than them all combined if and when that happens. Mike Gillis needs to be proactive; the current core has been given a huge shot to succeed, and it has failed. There are no awards for coming close as in this business it's all about winning. |

Meh. I'm as loyal to certain players as I am to the logo on the front.
The players are the team. |

Incompatible. Kesler's skillset doesn't mesh with an east west time & space game where chances are generated off the cycle. Not even close. |

Emotion can't be dictating management decisions. If a great deal for a 32 year old Burrows comes along, Gillis has to jump on it. His message is that he wants your team to get bigger and younger; trading Burrows when his value is at its peak might just be a smart idea. This is about winning. You'll be loyal to the guys who bring Vancouver a cup. |

That's fair. But I'd still like to see them get another shot with a new coach, this core looked pretty good to me when they played a more offensive system. AV's dump and chase system was not a good fit for this team, they aren't going to "out grind" many teams like LA does. There's a reason why players like Derek Roy and David Booth have struggled to produce here despite year's of production. Just ask Markus Naslund if AV's teams are a good fit for offensive players. This team hasn't had an identity since the Hodgson trade IMO. |

This. Burrows contract scares me a bit, just like Edler's. Higgins to a lesser extent. |
