That would be interesting and could open the door ot major CBA contravention. I wonder it there would still be a cap hit or if there would be cap implications like a buy-out?

No idea, I saw it as a Retweet the day after the trade deadline, and I believe the original Tweet came from a writer or agent. He could have been implying that Luongo doesn't actually want to ditch his contract as well or maybe that he actually does have some trade value. Who knows.

I don't think Luongo can really pick and choose at this point if he wants to start unless his plan is to basically force a buyout so that he can play in Florida. He would quickly go from becoming the good guy to the villain again.

I agree that the Isles make a lot of sense, plus moving to Brooklyn and making the playoffs makes them more intriguing than a year ago. The advanced stats also point to them being a pretty good team, if only they had decent or good goaltending, they'd be almost a lock for the playoffs again next year and capable of actually doing some damage in the post-season. Who knows though, if I'm Garth Snow I'd wait and see if someone like Niklas Backstrom becomes a free agent first, because I'd much rather sign him then trade anything for Luongo.

Luongo for Nino. Both players want out.

Isles have a ton of cap space and will need a starting goalie. With a young team on the upswing it would be a benifit to get a vetern guy with experience, skill and leadership. Luongo wants to be a starter on playoff team - here you go.

Canucks finally dump Luongo and put an end to this horrific soap opera and get what Gillis is looking for, "younger and bigger"

That could be a steep price to pay for the Isles, if I was Snow I would force Gillis to settle for less unless there was actually another team interested. And then move Nino elsewhere. Just to look at it from the Isles perspective here.

If Nino really was on the trading block there would be FAR better offers than Luongo.

Here he'd be a complimentary piece. There he was supposed to be a primary piece. Big difference.

He was second line there.... so he would he be our third liner then?? Because he sure didn't cut it as second line.

Because we have defensive depth and need additional offense. It's not that we want to trade him but you need to give to get.

Even though the Canucks and Luongo hate the contract the PA loves it and would never allow it to be voided. That would open the door to non-guaranteed contracts and there is no way the PA would agree to that. Even with that said something like that would have to written into the next CBA to allow contracts to be voided or restructured or a MOU (Memorandum of Understanding) would have to be signed ammending the current CBA. In both cases the League and the PA would both have to sign off on it. Very unlikely.

I think my idea was more elegant - team guaranteed contract as opposed to the league. Give every player a no trade clause. If a player agrees to a trade, he's free to sign a new contract with his new team.

I'd take Phaneuf if both were at equal cap hits, but I'll take Edler at 1.5 million less for sure.

That sounds about right ... I do feel that dion has always been prone to defensive lapses while edler didn't always have the brain cramps he has had recently ... Both have a shot ... Dion might be a bit more physical but edler can pick his spots to lay someone out , edler is better coming out of his own end too

I was joking, but I could see Kes being traded like anyone else on the team if they get a good return.

Gillis may want to change the image of the team and Kes is injury prone . I don't care one way or the other if he stays or goes .

I'm really hoping MG doesn't pick up the phone with a preconceived list of untouchables. Time to open up to all offers to get a gauge for what's possible. Personally after back to back first round exits where we won 1 game and lost 8 I don't think anyone on this roster is untouchable.

I do.

Certain players make/define teams.

Canucks aren't the Canucks without the Sedins or Burrows.

EDIT: cue the "Burrows really defines the Canucks—biters/divers" comments...
