Welllllll then play the game it's meant to be played and you won't get called.
Clearly obvious that the overwhelming feeling regarding the Canucks is that they dive, tons of after the whistle b.s., punks, biting (of course), etc. Seriously, go anywhere and the the only people defending the Canucks are Canuck fans, players, and management. That's it. |

I agree. The Canucks have made their bed and now they have to sleep in it.
Their powerplay was a thing of beauty in years past so it made sense for them to try and draw as many penalties as possible, but they did it at the expense of their team integrity and overall respect factor. Not to mention it made them one of the most hated teams in the league according to numerous opponents and fans league-wide.
I really think they're trying to rehab that image but the curve to do that will be a long and steep one. At his presser, Gillis suggested it's the media's job to make sure everyone knows other teams are diving too. I say, screw that. That's nothing but a diversion.
I'm hoping the Canucks have paid the price in the world of karma, but we'll have to wait and see I guess. All I can say as a fan is...the way they acted in the cup run postseason was pretty fricken embarrassing.
As Flyers coach Mike Keenan used to say to Wayne Gretzky's Oilers and Co...

Alex Burrows through out the years has developed a reputation with the officials. Now I am not saying that he is the same as Matt Cooke, but the same thing happens to Cooke. Quite often Cooke gets a two minute minor for being Matt Cooke. Unfortunately for Burrows the same thing is happening. Throughout his career of complaining, diving and playing on that edge he is in the same situation where on a 50/50 call he doesn't get the break and ends up serving two for being Alex Burrows. - Ben37
So you're saying that refs don't call the game fairly, but instead they call it on thier like or dis-like for a paticular player? No wonder the NHL is the laughing stock of professional sports.
By far the worst refs in sports including basketball! |

Nice to see Blackhawks and Kings fans still enjoy posting in here. Everyone likes a desperate troll.
I think the Canucks need to become squeaky clean like the Kings and Hawks. I don't know how they do it, but not one single player on either of those teams dives or has done anything dirty in their NHL careers. |

Exactly! Do that and you're more likely to go further in the playoffs! Good observation |

What really bothers me most about the officiating is this:
When no other penalties are being called, and I mean obvious infractions that would never even pass the "sniff" test in the regular season, why the hell is the delay of game penalty an automatic call!?!?
It's such ridiculous hypocrisy. At the very least, why not make it a judgement call like all others? Trip a guy. Cross check him. Blatantly wrap your free arm around a puck-carrying player and drag him to the ice with no call. But an accidental flip of the puck during in-tight play results in an automatic 2 minutes?
It's ridiculous. As great as these playoffs have been, there is zero consistency with penalty calls and it's becoming an embarrassment to watch.
And it brings up the serious question of what's the point of calling penalties in the regular season? Why bother? You set a precedent throughout 2460 games which you blatantly disregard in the post season? Imagine our court system worked like that.
I'm a Leafs' fan but I sympathize with the Sedins who excel in the regular season play but whose play-style is practically neutered in the playoffs thanks to no-calls. Criticize them all you want for their lack of toughness but Canucks' fans have reason to gripe. |

Maybe Keith and Carcillo can give a workshop to the boys on how to play a clean, honest game of hockey. |

Are you watching any of the games? Last night on CBC and TSN both panels were talking about how awful the reffing has been. Not only in the Canucks/Sharks series but in every other series as well. If you think NHL reffing is consistent then say so. |

As long as no women are present I don't think Keith would have a problem with it. Maybe that's why he hates Burrows and Lapierre so much? Cause he's sexist.

It's not consistent and really has never been.
I just learned to deal with it and actually try to enjoy games instead of sitting around sulking about it |

If both panels are talking about it, I think it's worth a blog. These playoffs have stood out for the poor officiating and the NHL has to do something about it. Great that you have accepted it, but some of us would like to see something done about it. |

He really is. Treats everyone with nothing but respect, no matter their gender. Great all around guy who is always good at keeping his emotions in check. Canucks can learn from him. |

Agreed.
What's the point of having a rule book if penalties become arbitrary and entirely subjective? It ruins the purity of the game. And it opens it up to subjective bias at best and manipulation at worst. |

No it's not. There is a rule book. Most NHL regular season games are called fairly consistently. The rule book is pretty straightforward. In the playoffs, that consistency is gone. |

I'm not saying every game should be called exactly the same (if it were possible, I would love that) but surely there must be something they can do. Whether it's coaches being able to have a challenge flag or video replay on penalties, I don't know.
I know the Canucks have a reputation for diving, but it looks like other teams (Couture) are doing the same thing. It's embarrassing as a fan. |
