Signed Souray, Fasth, Allen, Dvorak, added Steckel.

This award though is kinda tough to judge. A GM could do (frank) all the whole year and still be the GM of the year in my books. Why you ask, because being a GM isn't just about what a team does during the year. The GM is a building job, a job that can't be rated on just one year.

Case and point Chicago. Did very little this year, but because of moves and draft picks from previous years look where the team is. Boston is another.

Bergevin? You get an award for making a team average again?

This is also an award that should be determined after the playoffs are done. The best of the best when it comes to GM's is judged by what is done at season end, not regular season end.

why is shero even there?
cause he brought in a bunch of rentals at the deadline???? should not even be on the ballot

- derm10

Because he made bold moves at the deadline and continues to be the best GM in the business. That is why.

Dont remember the exact rumor but it was widely reported Boston had a better offer but Iginla wanted to go play with Crosby and Malkin.

Not really, Boston's first round pick was conditional, while Pittsburgh's had no conditions.

Good Points, Lahey.

In fact, I'd argue that Bergevin is a weak candidate, other than cutting the fat he didn't do much to change the roster he inherited.

Did he sign any players besides Colby Armstrong I'm forgetting?

He drafted Galyenchuk in a no-brainer, played hardball with PK Subban, and replaced the coaching staff, all good moves but nothing insane.

He traded Cole for Ryder, a move I'd hardly call a win.

Seems to me in general the team's success has been keyed by the draft picks and players that were already in the organization.

No, Boston's wasn't. It was initially reported incorrectly. I'm not saying shero should win, but the Vokoun trade proved to be huge. The Staal trade was great, the trade for Neal is still paying dividends, dupuis contract is a steal as is kunitz's. His drafts have been really solid recently too. I personally couldn't care less about individual awards, especially for a GM, but shero has been solid for years.

That's actually a very good pickup.

Ok, give it to Bergevin, only because I don't wanna see Shero get it for basically just doing this:
