It's such a joke that if you skate up and cross-check a guy in the ribs it all fine. But if he retaliates, they both go to the box. What is stop female genitalias like Marchand from being a little someone who is attracted to the opposite sex and going after top players after every whistle?
- markmark

Nothing, not anymore. They used to let the players deal with that but now this is what happens.

In all honesty.. the lesson the leafs learned last night is probably more valuable to this particular group then advancing

its the way they lost that has everyone riled up is all.

- Dozzer

Folks went from being thrilled thinking about home ice next round to trying to wake themselves up from a horrible nightmare.

As I said to someone this morning...

I was so prepared for the Leafs to lose that I was going to be OK with it, and even admire the team for what they accomplished.

Somehow though, they managed to disappoint me anyway. The only thing that would have been worse is if Boston torched us AND Seguin got like 6 points.

I can't believe the stuff he got away with all series. (again not blaming the loss on the refs whatsoever as the Leafs were the only ones to blame for blowing a 4-1 lead) Just seemed like every single stoppage he was punching someone in the back of the head or giving a greasy cross check.

That Marchand water bottle bothers me more the more I think about it. If not for the collapse, more people would be discussing it.

After Boston fans litter the ice with towels to gain their team an extra long stoppage, the PA tells the crowd that any more debris on the ice will result in a penalty for the home team.

To start OT, Marchand - a member of the home team, no less - throws debris on the ice to deliberately delay the game.

Besides "putting the whistles away" which is the most bush league mentality ever, can somebody explain the rational behind not calling that penalty?

- Leeman4Gilmour

It looked like the ref's didn't see him throw it, they only noticed it once it was sliding across the ice, thinking it just fell off the bench. I don't think they knew it was purposely thrown

When I heard Kadri talking after the game about how this team had "championship potential" I thought this was a pretty good wake up call.

Championship teams have a lot more to learn than this, Nazem.

The Leafs just found out the hard way what a championship team looks like.

Makes sense they were always out against the Krejci line. Thats the line that did the most damage.

I do agree here. He's a slippery little (frank) and kinda pulled the bottle up from behind the bench where no one could see it and tossed it out there.

Now from the speed it was ripping across the ice obviously it was thrown, but tough to make a call there if they actually didn't see it.

yeah although i think the Habs bigger concern long term is beef on the wings. Eller's a big boy. and Galchenyuk has decent enough size for when he moves to centre full time. still, both are difficult commodities to find. which is why Clarkson and Clowe are going to make a poopload of money this summer.
- DoubleDown

Would love to have Clarkson on the team, but man he is going to get overpaid big time.

Clowe doesn't seem like the same guy from a couple years ago.

I forgot about Galchenyuk for you guys...

Bench minor. At least in normal reffing.

Carlyle should have thrown one of his assistant coaches onto the ice to stop play before the last goal.

Every championship team loses and usually in the first round the year or years before the cup so maybe this is exactly what they needed. Even the Oilers had to blow a monster lead against the kings. NOT saying this is the oilers, just saying gotta crawl before you walk.

And Marchand never fights. That's what's so frustrating about it.

If you want to be a d-bag pest, fine. But back it up.

Whatever. Lookin forward to the Bruins getting knocked out, anyway. Too bad it has to be the Rags.

What are the odds of Torts throwing a bench onto the ice in response to the Bruins antics?

The other thing too, is on a bench call such as this the linemen can make the call. Or let the ref know. 4 guys and no one saw it? yikes.

The "rat" camew in after the instigator. Yes, there were quasi rats like Hunter and such but now there are a whole lot more of them, and they go after the top guys which rarely happened at all prior to the ruling.

good.. a lesson much needed.

like i said.. losing this way will probably benefit this young group moving forward than winning 4-1

I wonder what would happen if an NFL coach didn't like the way his defense was lined up, so he threw the clipboard or a piece of equipment onto the ice to stop play?

The fact that the NHL won't call that delay of game, especially after the warning, is simply bush league.

Incompetent officiating from an irrelevant league.
