Mario Lemieux > Eugene Melnyk: Mario has more goals and assists than Eugene. If you add up all the time Mario missed in his career due to injury and illness, and add that to his points total on a pro-rated basis, you'll find that he has an infinite amount of points more than Eugene. Also, he had to play with some real rookie schmoes over the years, I would say no less than 38, so when you account for those rookies being more seasoned pros by their fifth year in the league, and times pi by Mario being at approximately 66% of his general playing aptitude now than he was during his prime, you'll see that Ottawa certainly has no chance of winning this series!

You forgot to add in the CORSI and Fenwick coefficients for his 150+ point seasons and counterbalance his time playing with Jagr to offset the loss of his talents to Boston this season. I think you're overestimating it a bit though, friend, infinity is too abstract a number. Lemieux is clearly only 2,285 points better than Melnyk when you combine season and playoff totals, much lower than the infinite estimates you put out there. But Melnyk has one clear advantage over Lemiwux, which is his several billion more in net assets and wealth, his own Caribbean island, plus the significantly higher number of future stanley cups he'll be able to count after we send you guys down What Could Have Been lane...

I can make fun of myself too, see???!

I think he was refering to the "fans" who are talking about trading away all of their players when the Pens are starting the second round of the playoffs.

Mario backed up his ego. Mario is a hall-of-famer; XXX all-star; a top three player all-time and a two-tiem Cup winner. Eugene isn't a hall-of-famer; a no time all-star and a whiner instead of a winner. Hope he rips his ACL this series and ends up in a hospital.

Ah, gotcha. Well, it would be the smart move. Get rid of MAF and Vokoun and put the trash can in goal (will work for league minimum). Trade Crosby for some prospects and some packets of McDonald's fancy ketchup (I love it) to save on cap space. Move Malkin to defense and roll a top line of Glass, Engelland, and the recently-resigned Billy Tibbets. Win World Series on 53-yard-field in the bottom of the 11th.

Karlsson "at 75%" is leading the Sens in ice time and is tied with Letang for the NHL lead in D scoring after what, I agree with you, was a horrible series for him. He will be better rested and have more of his timing back in the next round.

I may be downplaying Martin a bit, granted, but Orpik has seen a significant decline in his play the last few years and from what I've seen this season Murray is now too slow and lacks the mobility to be an effective playoff defender.

Also, I don't know how long it's been since you saw the Sens play but we're a pretty fast team, almost at the same level as the Isles. We just played the fastest team in the conference in Mtl and kept pace with them easily, while outscoring them 19-9 overall. Just warning ya, if the Pens lose, it will be because your D shat the bed and were too slow to keep up with us. Enjoy the series

- ahjnkn

I agree with your bolded part but Sens fans keep acting like this is a one way street... I get that the Sens defense and goal-tending is good but the Sens are not nearly as fast as the Isles.... The Isles and Leafs speed scares me... The Sens are not on their level.

Matchups will be a problem for Ottawa in Pittsburgh IMO.... Ideally I think Maclean should try and get the Conacher line out there against the Malkin unit because they are the most prone to turnovers and that line is speedy... but that is going to be tough on the road. Bottom line is one of your top 2 lines is going to have to spend some of their shift defending Crosby's line or Malkin's line and if the Cooke-Sutter-Morrow line can keep playing in a shutdown capacity I like the Pens chances especially if the Sens continue to give up the ridiculous shot totals they did against Montreal.

Anderson is good but if Pittsburgh gets anywhere near 35-40 shots in a regulation game I don't think the Sens stand much of a chance in that game. Anderson will need a .930+ save percentage in this series IMO.

Just make sure they yell "Fore!!" before they kick the field goal from behind the 3 point line, so Mike Lange can yell "GGGGGGOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAALLLLLLLL!!!!!!"

Have Flyers' fans taken the "Bob is the favorite for the Veinza" news well?? It's hard to watch them deal with their goalie situation, considering their last great goalie is one of my favorite of all time.

What I'd consider "real" Flyers fans are happy for him. He's a nice guy with a great work ethic who kinda got a raw deal (Michael Leighton and Peter Laviolette carry most of the blame for it). Same with Richards and, to a lesser extent, Carter. We're happy for them. Yes, we wish their success was as members of the Flyers, but it's not like those guys turned their back on the team. Richards was in tears when he said goodbye on the radio. Carter went into a week of isolated depression apparently (although, he WAS going to Columbus).

The problem is the "talk show" Flyers fans who just want to rip the Flyers because they need to feel angry about something. But I'd say that most people who really follow the team were happy for Richards, Carter, and Gagne last year, and hope that Bob wins the Vezina.

Both owners have said things they shouldn't of in the past. The problem is that Melnyk just continues to spout off. I hope he keeps a lid on it this series, but I'm not holding my breath.

Even if he does, it will only be a matter of time til he goes off again at something.

Couldn't be happier the flyers traded him. He was a young promising goalie with the flyers and he always beat the penguins. I would hate to go up against him with the flyers but I guess he's moving back to our division with the realignment.

Sure Ottawa looks like they have a better defense than the Penguins, but they better hope that the Penguins don't have the puck very much. The Penguins offense is a lot better than the Sen offense and better than their defense too. Anderson better be ready. The Penguins leading scorer had 3 less assists than the Habs leading scorer had points.

They were injured, undisciplined and terrible because we obliterated them with hard body checking in the first two games and they had no response. All their injuries were the result of playing against Ottawa. Also, if the Isles were such a potent machine compared to the Habs all year, why did MTL finish six places ahead of them? Our standing was largely injury related, what was their excuse?

- ahjnkn

So the Senators beat up on a tiny team team with not a lot of playoff experience. The Penguins won't wilt from a few hit. If you are hoping that physical hockey is what will beat the Penguins than you are barking up the wrong tree.

No one is worse than Flyer fans with their goalies, Ottawa used to be before we acquired Anderson, but now we actually have something we've never had playing the pens before in the playoffs - goalie confidence.

Defense wins championships, and no offense to anyone here, but the Pens G and D is outclassed by Ottawa's this year. Your offense is better, no question, but this is a much different team you're facing than the Isles as Ottawa's D is bigger, more mobile, agressive and experienced than the Isles.

The Sens were among the top 3 defensive teams in the league all year with two of our best players injured for most of the season (Cowen and Karlsson). This playoffs, we're averaging 1.8 goals against per game, and are finally healthy on the back end, which I believe now far outclasses the Pens. See a depth chart comparison (accuse me of bias all you want, but I watch a lotta pens hockey on Centre Ice and these rankings are based on performances to date this season):

1. Anderson > MAF/Vokoun (the fact you're even debating who to start means Ott. has the edge here)

2. Karlsson > Letang (you may not like it, but you all know it's true even when Karlsson is only playing at 75%)

3. Methot > Martin (Martin is better offensively, Methot better defensively which is far more important)

4. Cowen = Orpik (Cowen's a better skater, better fighter, better hitter, and better puck handler but Orpik has far more NHL experience in big playoff games)

5. Gonchar > Niskanen

6. Phillips > Murray (faster, more playoff experience, better positionally)

7. Gryba > Eaton (it's a wash except that Gryba is a significantly better open ice checker, will be the Andy Sutton of this year's rivalry

8. Benoit, Wiercioch = Despres, Engellund

Ottawa wins 6/8 and ties the rest. It's not gonna be as easy or fun to watch this time fellas, just warning ya...

- ahjnkn

I'm not even sure why the Pens will even show up they're clearly outclassed by the GREAT #7 seed...

Except somebody better tell Letang that Karlsson is better because I will be willing to bet right now that Letang has a better series.

They we're saving how much better they are for the playoffs because I believe they we're swept in the regular season.
