That's fine, lets see the pens allow 5 goals a game nearly every postseason game for years to come, sounds good to me! This isn't an isolated situation
- ernmerica

You certainly don't unload Fleury unless you have something better. Who exactly do we have that is better than Fleury? You can't ignore that in the Philly series our defense and PK was non existent the Montreal series we lost to a hot goalie and you can throw the Tampa series out the window our top center was Letestu. So yes Fleury hasn't been stellar but 1 year was a moligan and the Philly series we should have traded the entire team.

I've played enough organized hockey to know that when your team is playing zero defense in front of you, there's only so much you can do in net. When your so-called Norris calibre defenseman has a habit of gift-wrapping the puck for the other team directly in the slot, there's only so much you can do in net. When your wingers leave the opposing defensemen wide open on the point without ensuring no passes make it through, there's only so much you can do in net.

Yes, when Fleury has to see the same crap, year after year, that have led to a series of first-round exits and almost-first-round exits, then it's going to start messing with him a bit. Especially coming from a team that played well in the regular season, and then decided to completely slack off when the playoffs rolled around.

When your goalie lets in terrible goals it deflates the team. MAF had reached that point.

Fleury doesn't stink. He is a very good regular-season goalie that has had little success in the play-offs outside of two years.

I guess the same can be said for Sid and Malkin?

When their d-man shoots the puck off the glass and it rolls out infront of the net and goes in, theres only so much you can do as a team.

When their forward goes wide, you're d-man plays him to the outside and slips a backhander along the ice and youre goalie dives out for a pokecheck and it goes right through him and deflects into the net, there's only so much you can do as a team.

Won't be able to beat Ottawa 5-4 every game. Go with the winning goalie right now

- t_leafs21

Again, I admit Fleury has had his share of struggles. But they stem from a complete breakdown of team defense in front of him, and Fleury feeling he has to do EVERYTHING, which naturally leads to mistakes as you described.

Fleury is not just a good 'regular season' goalie. He's a good goalie, period. He just needs the team in front of him to put in an honest defensive effort each game in the playoffs as they do in the regular season.

Agreed. Every single playoff series loss had zero to do with MAF, all of the team.

Man, this is what I hate about MAF. No matter what he does (seriously, why was he a foot outside of the net, looking at the end boards and having that shot deflect off of him and in), it's not his fault, because he's MAF. He gets put on this god damn pedestal like he's the son of Patrick Roy and Vladislav Tretiak. Dude has had 2 good playoff years. Actually, he's had 2 above-average playoff years. When you have a high-powered offense and a top-level defense all playing a cohesive game, he's good enough to get you there. But he's not some elite top-5 goalie who will steal you a Stanley Cup.

Again, do Hartzell or Murray project to be NHL starters? If so, can you get by for a year of Vokoun/25-game backup until they're ready?

Don't you think, with Malkin,Letang,Dupuis and Kennedy on expiring contracts, you could use the 5m in the bank by unloading Fleury?

Although the goalie market is terrible right now. Too many goalies, not enough starting spots.

The first option should really just read:

When a goalie is under seige you can't expect him to steal a game every single time it presents itself. The flyers flat out out played us mentally and physically. I don't see how that series is on MAF? The TEAM imploded and yes he is part of that equation but he isn't the entire equation.

And this isn't Philly we don't bash our goalies constantly making it impossible to be succesful.

If you splice the DNA of the Y-chromosome from each of them into 1 strand and then use the X-chromosome from either of Brodeur's sister wives, you could do it.

there are a bunch of better options then him for team USA

If that's the case, and it doesn't matter how good your goalie is because he has no shot, why waste $5M on the spot when you could put an AHLer in there and spend the cap money elsewhere?

Unload Fleury? With no replacement? Absolutely not.

Frankly, out of the players you mentioned, I'd be more than happy to unload Letang. Every year that goes by and he doesn't bother to adjust the defensive side of his game is another year closer to him being out of the league. He freely admits he relies on his speed and quickness to cover up for his defensive gaffes, but that speed won't last forever.

Without major adjustments, there won't be any mention of Letang in the NHL when he's in his late-thirties/early-forties, much less him being an actual Norris calibre defensemen like Lidstrom.

Is this methodology of genetic experimentation responsible for how we've ended up with so many "special" Flyers fans?

Shero magic, I am not saying unload MAF and just keep Voky and an AHLer. Shero should and can get creative

I know the point. It's that poor MAF isn't given a fighting chance by this awful Penguins team.

I'm not saying he's bad. I'm just saying, regardless of team play, that I think his head is damaged right now.

Also, if they start him and he falters and Vokoun has to come in again, why would Vokoun have any incentive to play well if he knows he's going to get replaced as soon as he leads the team to Round 3?

Worse. Every day it's about how the Eagles are the best team ever, except that they suck, but they're great. Any and all Flyers talk is based on "Bryzgalov stinks." It's infuriating that 90% of the fanbase buys into the drivel and believes it (I'd say Bryzgalov has been bad, but like MAF, his team isn't doing him any favors either). So you get these over-the-top seething lunatics who just scream the same crap every day (I see you guys have one of them yourselves). That's the issue.

And that's all Fleury? Have you honestly seen our defense other than Letang and Martin? Even Orpik isn't the guy he use to be. Amazing that Fleury was good enough in goal with guys like Scuderi and Gill in front of him. Niskanen sucks. Engo cant move. Eaton has looked great because our bottom half of defense is so bad. He was unemployed a month into a delayed season. These guys suck at picking up a rush.

Oh....it's even better here. Apparently, Mark Madden used to be an announcer or something for wrasslin', so he's always talking about wrasslin' stars. And apparently he's the coach or something for the U.S. Run Around On Feet And Play Hockey With A Ball Team or something, so he thinks he's some sort of hockey god...

Annoying as hell. I won't listen to him because he don't allow anyone with any type of opinion against his own to speak. He just hangs up and yells gibberish.
