The goaltending situation needs to be addressed, but IF Poulin/Nilsson are the future (and I mean are going to be elite goaltenders, not just average starters), then I don't want to trade Nino and a first or anything else for an elite goaltending prospect. Those chips would be better used to address the need for a top line forward of a top pair d-man. But if Nilsson and Poulin are not going to be the elite or at least upper tier goaltenders the team hopes they will be, then by all means, trade for Bernier.
- Jethro09

My only concern with Nilsson is his health- as for the other guy, SOMEONE (I'm guessing some guy named Sudsie who USED to be our goaltending coach) taught him how to flop around on the ice like a fish over the last couple of seasons, and he needs to unlearn that, if for no reason other than the well-being of my gastrointestinal health . This is why I've been back and forth between Bernier and Nabokov, or trying to sign a Backstrom for a couple of years while these guys improve. I'd sure rather use a couple of our top end prospects to get an ELITE defenseman than waste them on a goalie if we can get one somewhere else, but we can't have "deer in the headlights" standing in front of the net next fall- the rest of these guys deserve better than that.

People blaming the coaches for the team's roster and play over the last three games as the reason for the first round bow-out are crazy. This team had its pedal to the metal for 8 weeks. They were bound to lose steam and naturally let up a bit after the playoffs were clinched.
- Jethro09

I think it's difficult to expect any coach to be perfect, especially with the benefit of hindsight. It's simply unfair to look back and say the entire series was lost due to any one person. I could find some blame with Strait's stupid penalties, Streit's inability to be physical, Cappy's oddball decisions of playing Reasoner more than Grabs or his decision to match Strait on Crosby or of course Nabby...
As for the final three games, I think the team and coach get blame on the last three games, I certainly didn't like to see us sitting Vis on the final game although we really don't know the reasons why.
Sure, we could have won a couple more games and found a more favorable matchup, but the fact is this team went up against the best and came within a couple of bounces of pulling off their biggest upset in 20 years. That experience alone will be yet another huge chapter in the redemption of the New York Islanders.

I would love to have Bernier or Schenider as our starting goalie and get clarkson, evander kane or Bobby Ryan and a defenseman

Price would be too steep for Kane... Bobby Ryan for some reason always seems to be on the block.

Not sure why?

I would like to add Bickell, Clarkson or Horton.

Really no "D" coming up on FA... would have to be an upgrade through a trade.

So now that we have turned our attention to the offseason, do you guys think Snow will finally make (or be able to) the deals for a #1 netminder, #1(pairing) dman, or winger for Tavares??

Horton is the name that I tossed out there a couple of months ago. I really think he could thrive on JT's wing. That said, if Nino, Strome and Nelson are all expected to join the roster next year, I'd assume one of them might jump into Boye's spot. Of course Staple recently insinuated that Boyes will likely be back...I hope the hell not!
Of course then there's Moulson

I think Snow would like to bring in Donovan and Rinehart (see Dougie Hamilton) to the big club next year and hope Pedan and Mayfield develop in Bridgeport

I do like Moulson from a personality standpoint but his performance over the last month of the season as well as the playoff series were worse than dismal. I'm not sure what it is but worse than just not being able to skate worth a damn, I didn't see much effort and that worries the hell out of me when it comes to a guy who can only perform one role.

Horton made $5.5 million this year...big money...I would think he would want a raise to come here...Bickell only made $500,000 plus...seems like more of a bargain...offer $2 million a year and he would probably be an Islander.

I guess I just don't see much way around it. If Moulson isn't on our top two lines, he has no business on the roster. Given the prospects we have ready to join the team, he may be the odd man out. we'll see.
One thing about Moulson, he's a great community guy and the team loves having those folks around, but if I'm looking to take this team to the next level, I think we need a more complete player filling that top six role, unless we add a juggernaut on the right wing.
