I don't think we should or will trade MAF, but ill play along.

it would be interesting to see if we could trade him to EDM involving their 7th overall pick.

Fleury starts game 1. Case closed.
He is our #1 goalie, if we want any chance of winning the cup Fleury is our man.

Not to take anything away from Vokoun he was great, it was just the kick in the ass this team needed.

Ottawa get ready for hell.

Flower has not said his final good bye's yet. This was the right move at the right time. if the Pens continue to play a god awful defense, we will need the flower.

this is not the best team and they don't need to be yet.

Thanks Vukota, your team was flat out awesome. Much respect.

If I was an Isles fan I'd be damn proud of those guys.

I wonder how many times Eugene Melnyk makes his presence known in the upcoming series.

The more he talks the more I think that benefits the Pens.

The Islanders remind me of the 07 Penguins. Lots of talent and youth, and now they need their Billy G and Roberts type warriors to help out. The new arena and playoff success (it was a success in a sense) should help with that.

I'm equally amazed by how little respect Vokoun gets and how overrated Fleury is.

Since the 04-05 lockout Tomas Vokoun has never turned in an end-of-season save percentage worse than .917, and has averaged .921 over those eight seasons of play. He's probably lost half a step since his prime (2006 to 2011 or so) but as far as I can tell is still a quality starter, well above average. He has a pedigree of sustained excellence.

That same .921 that Vokoun has averaged over 8 season of play equals Fleury's career best year, which is now five seasons in the rearview mirror. Even when you throw out his first few years as a not-ready-for-prime-time starter on an awful Penguins squad, Fleury's career regular season numbers are basically the definition of league average, and his career playoff stats (.903 in 79 appearances) absolutely stink out loud.

I strongly disagree with the sentiment that Pittsburgh needs Fleury to win a Cup. I think they can win with either, but I also think Vokoun is the better goalie, still, even at age 36. I think he has always been the better goalie. I've said this before, but if I were the Penguins coach Vokoun would have been my starter from day 1 of the regular season.

Where were you when I was saying this. However, don't count Flower out just yet. We needed Vokoun to get by the Islanders. Flower will still have his day.

Oh, I wouldn't count Fleury out. I generally consider him to be a fairly average NHL starter (at least in terms of results -- nobody works out to "average" with the quite the same flair for the dramatic, good and bad, as MAF), and the Penguins are more than good enough to win a Cup with an average goalie between the pipes.

But they don't need to try to win a Cup with average goaltending, because they actually have a quality starter on their roster. Vokoun.

At least, at the start. Bylsma works on some sort of lottery system for big sections of the game though.

Thanks! Congrats Pittsburgh. Should be a great match, no team in the NHL (beside DET) I have more respect for than the Penguins. Bylsma is my 2nd favorite coach behind Mac. Babcock a close 3rd.

I am thrilled with the win. I don't think anyone in the NHL thought the Isles would bring that type of heat to the 1st round.

Sens were phenominal against the habs. I still believe we have a few notches we can ratchit this up to. Enjoy it Pens.

Next 4 starts on Tuesday against a team that fully hates us already.

Pesonally I stick with 92, But if Flower goes I don't have a problem with it. He is still our #1. HCDB has some stuff to figure out.

Just comes down to who the team believes in. The Penguins have yet to get their game together.

I think you ride the hot goalie right now. Vokie gave up one legit goal in two games. When I say that, I mean one goal that didn't involve a open net because of piss poor defense. The 2nd and 3rd goals were on the defense. I think he just brings a calmness to the team. If he plays the rest of the playoffs the way he played the last two games, the Pens win the cup. He isn't a mental case right now either. MAF is in his own head right now, you don't know what you are going to get. The amazing save, followed up by a soft goal and a goal he scores on himself. The Sens are good, the Pens can't just give away games with MAF in net.

another interesting element is how different MAF and Vokoun's styles are. Keeping the Senators guessing could be useful.

however, this should be Vokoun's series to start. he is a guy that has waited for this opportunity for years. he has made the most of it so far. he deserves to take this as far as he can go.

MAF will get another chance. the key is that he needs to be ready to make the most of that chance.

I was or am a fan of Fleury, however I think this is Vokoun's job to lose, as in he has to suck in order to be pulled. Over 4 games Fleury lost the confidence from his team and himself. This wasn't one bad game, it was a bad series. I think the management is showing they don't care about hurt feelings, there can be no excuses with the investments they have made. I can't see the Pens being perfect here on out, they'll lay an egg and Fleury will get another shot, I just don't think it should be for the next game.

Part of me is wondering if the Islanders were the best team in the east. The Penguins were elated at the end of that game. That team brought the whole 9 yards with them.

Just a thought, still jacked over the win.
