Briere might be more likely, but who knows with Philly. They have a pretty aggressive owner in Snider. - Nucker101
10 mil thrown down the toilet , If I was Flyers I would trade him and retain 3 mil this year and 2 mil for next year. The new team gets him for 3.5 this year and 4.5 next year ,Flyers get an asset back and save 5 mil
Okay... Just looked into what it takes to buy out Luongo...
$1.5 million for 18years. That's a no brainer. Peanuts. It'll be more than made up for by the unjustified 3-5% rise in ticket prices.
The Aqualini family is actually SAVING over $5 million dollars a year for the next 5 years doing it this way. - DrChristianTroy
The problem is, to the best of my knowledge, you don't write a $1.5 million dollar cheque every year. You sign a large cheque up front in actual dollars to the player, therein lies the problem.
Whatever happens, Gillis has to be fired.
He's been absolute garbage. - Fakepartofme
I'm aware that you're likely trolling...but Gillis did enough well the first few years of his tenure that he'll likely get another year of leeway, with AV deservedly taking the fall this off season.
OUCH! I say the Canucks get rid of their dead weight in Ballard and Booth. They have to take anything they can get for Luongo. Im guessing its going to be a pick/prospect package but who knows, they are not in a position of power to trade w/ any GM.
Then the real gutting of the team begins here:
-Keep the defense where it stands minus Ballard. They are a solid core to surround Schneider.
-Since it is nearly impossible to deal out the Sedins' and VAN is stuck with them until their contracts expire or they retire with the team, my guess is the latter. They should and will have to explore trading Kesler if they can get him to waive his NTC. I know he's the best player on your team but he carries the most value. His playing style is not going to last very long and its best to get something for him while you can.
An ideal candidate would be CBJ or TOR, they lack a quality centerman and would pay a hefty price tag to get one. Need I remind you that CBJ also has three 1st round picks in this upcoming draft. For Kesler going to Ohio, he would be gettng closer to home.
-Time to ship out Burrows, sure he 's a solid goal scorer but the antics are tiresome. He could fetch a decent return. Plus he's an aging goal scorer and that contract will look bad in two years.
This sure looks like a rebuild doesn't it? Well it is!! But I think its a quick rebuild since the hard part of it is completed (Goal/defense). Probably a 2-3 year rebuild while gaining potential top 10 picks/prospects and more importantly undergoing a culture change. It's not as bad as it looks, but if the Canucks want to be stale and booted out of the first round or barely miss the playoffs they should stay the course. - Orange Julius
$4.5 million cap hit for the next four years for a guy that is a 'heart and soul' type of player with very good production (and always clutch in the play-offs), surely you're kidding?. As far as his antics, 2009 is calling and asks where you've been. If you have watched any Canucks games the past few years you will have noted that Burrows has substantially toned down his extracurricular 'hijinks'. I would only trade Burrows if the return was significant. Frankly, though, I feel he is an 'untouchable' in terms of the team core.
