I questioned the guy who said that the return in a Sedin trade solves all your problems by pointing out the cap hit and lack of production over past two playoffs.
- Canada Cup

Not a realistic scenario anyways, the Sedins will retire Canucks...end of story. We need a second line, that's what we need!!

I agree totally. I would like to see Kesler stay but if it is not possible poop happens.

We still have not replaced Ehrhoff. He was not worth $10mil but his skills are sorry missed on a team that relies on an active def corps.

There you go. We were arguing over someone else's idea that we both disagree with.

Towards the end of the year I really liked Garrison's game, I think our defence will be ok. But we need to trade Edler for some scoring. Love to see Bieksa get traded to Ottawa for Cody Ceci.

Nice blog Eric.

This cap situation is compounded by the fact that the Vancouver propsect pipeline is not regarded as being very good. Ranked 27th on one site I recently checked out.

If ownership is going to be asked to buy out Luongo and others, and then refill with younger players on ELCs, I can't see how the Canucks maintain their standing as a team. I'm not suggesting that the cupboard is bare, but after Corrado and a few others - the projections become more bleak.

How Gillis could/should survive this mess will be intersting to see.

Flyers love Kesler and Edler, therefore...

to Vancouver - Brayden Schenn, Wayne Simmonds & a 1st round pick (2013)

- LeftCoaster

I personally dislike Kesler. Philly liked him enough before for the OS, not sure the interest level now.

Basically your offer is the equivalent of Mike Richards and a 1st for Kesler and Edler

To the best of my knowledge, the Canucks only have 30 players under contract for next season...this is going to be an interesting summer.
- LeftCoaster

It's awesome that you guys have so few players under contract!

That's such a good thing!

Just like how with only 17 roster players, you're over the cap by 100k!

Awesome!

I'm tellin ya...Luongo...will be the starting goaltender next season because (A) he's still very good & (B) his contract makes it very difficult to trade him. Although guys like Zetterberg and Hossa have similar contracts, they're not trying to trade them...but I digress.

This will, hopefully, be one of the busiest summers in Canucks history. Lapierre, Raymond, Malhotra, Roy, Sestito, Pinizzotto, Booth, Barker and Ballard will all be gone from this group. Why bring back what hasn't worked?

A combination of Higgins, Hansen, Edler, Kesler, Bieksa & Schneider could and should all be used as trade bait to change this team!

- LeftCoaster

I like that. That could def bring some youth to the Nucks and help provide for the future. I am also with you in thinking that Lou stays and continues to be #1 and CS is moved. I think you guys gotta keep Edler and move the other guys.

Luongo Jensen for Nino N . Nino would replace Jensens spot
- VANTEL

Isnt Jensen compared to Rick Nash? Lou alone would prolly get you Nino anyhow.

This sounds more difficult then what the Hawks had to do in 2010...You guy's are screwed!

Hawks got pretty good returns on theyre guys. We'll see if Van can do the same.

I agree but if the Islander pot needed to be sweetened to take on Lus's big contract Jensen is expendable IMO

I'd rather trade them Schneider and get back Nino & Brock Nelson!! Nelson is suiting up for the Islanders today.

That really depends on if you believe the site you're looking at. I mean, sites like that had Kesler and Burrows being third-line at best and Bieksa being a "serviceable" player.

I know Vancouver isn't the best as far as prospects go, and yes they maybe in the bottom half of the NHL. But that gap from 27 to 8-10 isn't that big.

I view the gap like if you're measuring marathon times. A minute gap isn't that huge. Vancouver is around 30 seconds behind, but they may close that gap pretty quick.

The other thing about those sites is a lot of them are based out of Ontario. As a result, I think there is often an OHL bias on players because they have a lot more people watching those players. I'm not saying that bias is that big, but you have to wonder why a guy like say John Gaudreau, who is one of the best Jr aged players in the world or Brenden Dillon, who was one of the best rookies in the NHL didn't crack their list.

You can't tell me that both of them shouldn't at the very least be 49 and 50 on the list.

there are a hand full of guys in Vancouver's system that are going to be better then some of the guys on that list. But i'm sure you could say that about every team.
