Someone, IMO, would take him on waivers, he's too good to just get for nothing. But my opinion is just like yours, we don't actually know...so neither of us is wrong or right.
- LeftCoaster

I never said it wouldn't happen...just it is slim to have happen. To add him to a roster in any way requires most teams to shed contract(s), and this does not work for the vast majority of teams with the cap coming down.

This is where the is, Gillis thought he was being smart by holding out to get what he wanted, to move Lu and not take a salary dump back. No one was willing to make that trade. So he is not going via trade.

To the best of my knowledge, the Canucks only have 30 players under contract for next season...this is going to be an interesting summer.
- LeftCoaster

This is the Canucks current situation: http://capgeek.com/canucks/

You are correct, counting all contracts, the Canucks have 30 players signed. And interesting summer coming up, indeed...

I'm tellin ya...Luongo...will be the starting goaltender next season because (A) he's still very good & (B) his contract makes it very difficult to trade him. Although guys like Zetterberg and Hossa have similar contracts, they're not trying to trade them...but I digress.

This will, hopefully, be one of the busiest summers in Canucks history. Lapierre, Raymond, Malhotra, Roy, Sestito, Pinizzotto, Booth, Barker and Ballard will all be gone from this group. Why bring back what hasn't worked?

A combination of Higgins, Hansen, Edler, Kesler, Bieksa & Schneider could and should all be used as trade bait to change this team!

- LeftCoaster
I agree with most but Kesler no he is one of the few players that takes his game to the next level when it counts. Heart and soul of the team. I thought he should have been captain. I don't have a problem with Henrik as captain. I don't pretend to know what goes on in the locker room but a locker room needs intensity and emotion. It might be cliche but an American attitude belongs in any locker room. The Sedins are leaders I am not questioning there ability to lead. This team has proven that they can keep the emotion in check now its time bring some attitude. There are 2 players I don't use as trade bait. Kesler is one regardless of the injury bug. I think that will hurt his trade value.

Never happen, they are the best players on the team, makes zero sense to trade them! They will and should retire as Canucks.

I really do hope the Sedins are not traded they are great people, great hockey players. Those are 2 people are great leaders in the game and outside of it. They have made all the young players around them better. They help others before they help themselves. Henrik and Daniel are role models for what it means to be a Canuck.

Flyers love Kesler and Edler, therefore...

to Vancouver - Brayden Schenn, Wayne Simmonds & a 1st round pick (2013)

Players with a NTC can be placed on waivers, which Lu has. He does not have a full NMC, which cannot be waived without his permission...see Mike Komisarek.
- LeftCoaster

My mistake on the NTC, but you're wrong with Komisarek. Komi had a NMC and he had to waive it in order to be sent down. He did so in order to keep playing, stay in game shape and hopefully be traded.

That said, placing Lu on waivers although an option, is a last resort. It's clear that Gillis wants some sort of a "decent return" for Lu (whatever that is at this point), but placing him on waivers would be a full admission that he (frank)ed up, LARGE. It would also indicate that he completely misread the situation, something the rest of the league was able to recognize, hence why Lu is still a Canuck.

At this point, if Gillis is hoping to trade Lu he'll need to add.

Not too good for Mikey boy's job security. Interesting times in Van to say the least.

That's exactly what I said, they had to get Komisarek's permission to send him down because he has a NMC...Luongo doesn't.

I'm ok with keeping Lu, he's a good tender still. Trading Schneider is the smart thing to do, guess we'll see how smart he is.

That's a very short sighted statement, but I won't get into it because you either don't know OR you're just trolling.

seriously, is there anyone on the roster you consider untouchable?

do they go for a complete rebuild and get younger, or just tweak the line up?

Considering the Flyers are over cap from what I saw on capgeek I don't think they are taking that 9ish mil for their 5mil+1st

I question the idea you would get a huge return for a trade that requires someone to take on $12.2m for a couple of 32 yr olds who have not produced in the last two playoffs.

Knowing Van's cap situation next season, why does ANY TEAM do Vancouver/Gillis any favours?

Gotta believe that Gillis will either be kicked to the curb or biting the pillow this summer.
