Disagree about JT being a feel good story and in for "PR".
Have you watched this guy play during the regular season this year? He is an absolute beast and was a huge part of the Isles regular season success.

I think he meets the MVP definition perfectly. Much like Bob if Columbus make it, St. Louis if the lightning make it, etc.

Im saying there are about 5 other guys I would make the argument for being "most valuable to their team" ahead of JT. I think JT is awesome. But yes, him being nominated is NHL PR.

Just my opinion.

I'm not saying Ladd is entirely better than Tavares I'm saying he had just as valuable a season if not more than Tavares.
- Peter.Tessier

No offense. Ladd is a good player. But the Jets are in the SouthEast and couldn't manage to get in. The Isles did and they're in the Atlantic. Tavares had everything to do with that. He should definitely be nominated and he should win it. Ovechkin has no business being in the discussion though over Toews or Kane. Crosby is obvious. He was unbelievable. The depth added at the deadline shouldn't take away from that.

take him out, and they'd be so bad that they might have to give the isles teh 1st AND 2nd rd picks just to be fair.

i can think of almost nobody who is single-handedly more responsible for his teams success then JT.

Peter Tessier: MVP finalists- Are they Right?
A look at some numbers behind the Hart finalists and few who didn't make the cut.

- Peter.Tessier

Dude, Tessier, I love Ladd and all, but you're shoving Ladd down the throat of the MVP race when he isnt even close

He is a good leader, but will never be in a Hart discussion

Toews' stats aren't the only ones that are incorrect...everyone but Crosby needs to be updated.

When looking at situational TOI numbers you need to factor in how often each player's team was in each situation. For example: Winnipeg and Chicago were in the top 4 for fewest times shorthanded, while Anaheim was 16th. This could close the gap between Ladd/Toews and Getzlaf. The easiest way to evaluate everyone equally is to look at what percentage of their own teams' SH/PP/ES TOI each player had.

East. Coast. Bias.

Edit: those stats you have for Toews are wrong. They are:

GP G A P +/-
47 23 25 48 28

Haven't 2 of the last 3 winners been from the Western Conference?

Seems fairly obvious that the problem for Toews' chances was Kane. It was close enough between the two of them this year that they likely stole votes from each other.

True, but how much Western Conference hockey do you actually think East Coast media watched this year? No proof obviously, but I'm guessing not much.

MLB has it right. 1 writer from each city votes. This is what I think the NHL should do.

Can't say for sure. You may be right. And I think Toews deserved a nomination, but can't argue with AO or Crosby.

Most valuable means they are the most valuable to a team's success. Is Crosby the best player in the league? Arguably, yes. Is he the most valuable player on the pens? Arguably, yes again. This season was he the biggest reason they made the playoffs? Clearly not, although you could make an argument for it. Will he lead the pens to the Cup Finals and possibly another cup? It's a possibility. If he doesn't do that though then I don't believe he should be in the discussion. It should be Tavares, Ovechkin, and Toews. Tavares deserves to win because he IS the reason the Islanders are in the playoffs in arguably the hardest division in the entire league. Ovechkin did exactly the same thing, but in an easier division. Toews and Kane kind of split the load for carrying the Blackhawks, plus the rest of the team was not even close to as poopty as the Caps and Isles are. If Tavares doesn't win it is a crime. Saying that, I wouldn't be surprised if they gave it to Ovechkin for PR reasons.

I didn't say he should win it just that his name could have been in the conversation had the Jets made the post season and that the number support him as most valuable to his team when compared with other players as possible nominees.

Yeah- I thought I got them updated. I started this before the season's end probably missed Toews'.

They are all updated now.

Thanks and sorry for the mistake.

Ovie...

He sucked, Wash was a bottom feeder. He went into beast mode and they rocketed up the standings.

Ovie should win it.

Ovechkin's "drive" in a nutshell:

Goal-scoring does not a Hart trophy winner make. Both Crosby and Tavares (the snubs Kane and Toews) scored AND helped their teammates do better in many facets of the game, Ovechkin scored about half his goals from the exact same spot on the ice on a one-timer.

Ovechkin also was absolute crap for a good part of the beginning of the season.

I hope Tavares gets it for willing a young Isles team to the playoffs.
