I remember I loathed the play of Randy Robitaille. His loathing was surpassed only by Mike "Hard to believe I was once on something called the FLY line" York.

I don't care about the comments. I don't care if he and his teammates get along. Get him some blinking help on the blueline, some forwards that will commit to team D and play tough, and that's it. I didn't want Bryz here but he's the Flyers goalie. Maybe he shouldn't be, but that has nothing to do with the subjects the local media discusses. It should be about him giving the team a chance to win. Of course, this past season was about the team not giving him a chance to win because they were anemic offensively and porous defensively until it was too late.

Mike York's awfulness cannot be overstated.

I don't know who was more awful: York or Kyle Calder.

- johndewar

Which ever one of them was on the ice was the worse one at that particular moment.

Begging the question. A lot of assumption here.
- Flyskippy

don't we all have to assume here to some degree? we're talking about opinions here...we are mostly guessing about the stuff off the ice and making semi-educated judgements about what we see when they play.

while i agree w/ some of it, it was incoherent and contradictory at times. he had a very defensive tone.

a case can be made for the buyout based on his performance vs his contract - and that's really where it should stay. 95% of the piece is his personal opinion on bryz's personality and everything else. it's extremely defensive, even says the "media can't be blamed for all of it"..it's his job to report blah blah blah. this isn't reporting. this is generating conversation for no other reason than to create more drama, hits, sell papers etc. and it infuriates me. why the timing of this piece from him today? because of bryz's comments in the russian paper coming out? hmmmmmm...ya think? it's a (frank)ing disgrace.

what has bryz done that's so off the wall and wacky? make comments about bears and the universe over a year ago? who gives a flying (frank)? why is this is such a problem? i don't see him throwing teammates under the bus or anything like that. where is this horrible teammate we keep reading about?

if bryz wants out, i home homer makes this happen.

i think frank planned this series in advance, so i dunno. the other issue is the mktplace for alternatives. it looks like it has promise and that would also seem to play into the decision. why frank didn't spend more time w/ an objective assessment of these, i don't get.

bryz has played well enuf to justify keeping him if that's not the case, but I'd have to be lumped in w/ the people who believe a) he doesn't want to be here anymore and b) a buyout is going to happen this time or next.

Not sure what all the fuss is about re: this Angry Birds stuff. I think it's great that instead of just sitting on his ass and doing nothing when he's not playing, Bryz is over there working tirelessly on improving his reaction time and hand-eye coordination during his down time. That kind of dedication to his craft should be praised, not criticized.

The same gullible fans that believe everything the beats say will continue to do so. So even shutting off the beats won't solve this situation. Only winning will.

They won 47 games the previous season, won a playoff round, and Bryz's personality and antics were still very much in the forefront, especially during the WC debacle.

Kind of.

Assessments of play puts everyone on equal footing -- from the media to the press to the folks in the building to the fans at home, though the fans at home don't see everything and the folks in the building won't get injury updates, etc. as fast as the TV audience. Knowing the game is not a direct result of time spent watching or else Tim Panaccio would be a reliable "insider."

Assuming what a player is thinking, what his motives are, what (if anything) is distracting him, etc. is thin ice.

That was more dog-wagging than anything else. The onus of that NJ series was on guys who were out coached, guys that did not keep up their level of compete, and guys who took stupid suspendable penalties that still could not quench the press' desire to lay the playoff ouster at the feet of the unsupported goalie.

EDIT: Looks like you missed my edit of the post you quoted.

Not me.

Apparently, he was the only Russian hockey player in the World Championships to do anything of note with his new high score in Angry Birds Star Wars.

I wonder which Angry Bird is his favorite.

Bryz sure sounds like a dude who is landing some parting shots on his way out the door. If he returns, it's going to be an annoying dynamic.

- Jsaquella

Bryz dropped some wisdom on them in that interview. Basically just said "hey everyone is different, we should appreciate the differences in people". I can get with that. Bryz seems like a guy with whom I couold sit down and have a Tiger Blood or two. I hope he sticks around and is a wall next year. Maybe he could also take a page out of Silent Bob Esche's media playbook. F 'em. Go out and give one or two word answers and your interview is done.

The length of the deal and the cap recapture penalties worry me.

But I like Bryzgalov. He's a funny guy, he does care about winning and I think he's a good goalie.

- Jsaquella

They should let Bryz and Mason split duties next season. Maybe 60% - 40%. The organizational goal (outside of winning games and ultimately the cup, of course) should be to get a good look at both goalies. If Bryz craps the bed or is a huge distraction, buy him out next year. Hopefully Mason can do his part and give some solid play.
