Yes, every member of this defense group is brutal and we somehow stumbled into #5.

What were your expectations of Gardiner? They seem to be very high since all he can do is wrong in your opinion. He is a mid first round pick developing at a normal pace, what is he supposed to be doing?
- senstroll

I can't look at Gardiner and not see the major flaws that are uncoachable in his game and are peewee hockey problems. Can he skate and skate with the puck? Yep. But that's it. You put your team at risk and in confusion when you jump into every single rush. Watch where his rushes usually end up. No where is the answer.

uncoachable?

you're out to lunch man.

it's quite the opposite, he has the intangibles and needs the rest to fall into place with good coaching

I rather take the word of Eakins then a poster on HB about Gardiner.
- LeafMan

its not like the leafs drafted him 1st overall or traded a bunch to get him. He is 22 learning to play defense, there will be ups and downs. he makes it sound like there is no way he will ever get better or learn.

There are players who mature later than others

Chara looked like a giraffe on skates the last year in the playoffs with the Sens.

Do you think the Sens would like him back?

You can't coach compete in your own end. He has no interest. Every other player understands giving your partner a pass option. How many times did a Leaf have the puck in their own corner and Gardiner is standing still in front of his own net giving zero options. He doesn't think the game well at all. Pond hockey.

Be honest is this your analysis from years of watching hockey from your couch or have you coached at any level?

so it is that he can't defend in his own end or he can't break out?

Most difficult position to learn, some have great rookie years then struggle the next, tons of examples of this.

Given time he can skate it out better then 90% of the league. What's that about 1/100th of the game?
