It's a 2 horse race between Crosby and Ovechkin. If Crosby misses the first 12 games instead of the last 12, and puts up the same numbers, he runs away with it. - cap1681
What people are underestimating is that Sid carried the team until he was hurt. The reason why the team didn't miss a beat was because they added Iggy, Jussi, Morrow and Murray at the very same moment Sid went down. Malkin did not have a good year. Anybody who thinks Malkin would have carried the team like he did last year is wrong.
I can't give a Hart to guy that didn't play with any for a full third of the season.
My choice would be Sid, but I'd be OK with Tavares too.

Sid and Ovechkin had pretty similar years. Sid only played in 36 games, while Ovechkin appeared in 48 while only trying in around 25 or so. - Deadstar
Must we make everyone watch this again? Not once did Crosby or Tavares look like this. They work hard on all 200 feet of ice. Ovechkin on the other hand...
Good game last night, pretty exciting hockey. Here's my thoughts.
It took DB half way through the game to make adjustments. THe pens were out shot 2-1 half way through the game. Only then did he switch Iggy and Kunitz and that made a difference. Vokoun was not tested that much, the Pens played better in their own zone. Nabokov ket in 2 softies. If not for those the game would have been much tighter.
TK well lets jsut give him the Conn Smyth right now...Seriously though, the 4th line played hard and had intensity. I still think Jussi is more useful than TK or Vitale.
Looking forward, if all goes right, Ottowa is playing pretty strong. They could be tougher than NYI.
Jussi is good but he's too slow to play against the Islanders. There's a big difference skating wise between TK and Vitale versus Glass and Jokinen. Especially when Vitale can step in and win 9 of 10 faceoffs.
My vote goes to John Tavares. He doesn't have nearly the supportive cast that Sid/OV do. The award is for the "most valueable player" so in that case it's JT. Unforunately, the Pens played just fine without Sid and would've made the playoffs without him. The same cannot be said about Tavares.

It was very nice to see the Tyler Kennedy of old on display last night. When he is going right he is very good player in his role for the Penguins. He has never deserved the scorn he has received by some fans.
This season he was not going right and he was not the player he has been and did deserve his criticism, which is why he was benched. Hopefully he brings what he brought last night for the rest of the playoffs.

That is absurd! Surly that isn't from a playoff game? Regardless of what game it's from, that should ABSOLUTELY weigh in (negatively) in determining the Hart winner. Wow.

Man... that backhand sauce that Crosby gave to Letang to set up his goal was a thing of beauty. Draws 2 Islanders to him, and just drops it right in Letang's wheelhouse.
