That's a fair assessment.

Also, I added in the above that the development is more of an issue than the drafting.

The Canucks really lack any elite talent. They have some solid 4-7 D coming up, and bottom 6 forwards, which are mostly from later picks.

The 1st-round label sometimes comes with a lot of unnecessary hype, since the Canucks have been choosing from the bottom of that barrel since Hodgson.

Not to say Jensen/Gaunce, etc. aren't good prospects, but they're longer term projects with less upside than the Huberdeaus/Galchenyuk's, etc.

Someone get on the horn with Patrick White's agent.

Sounds like he was given one player to try and fill a multitude of different needs

Just one way of looking at it.

- Mattjd123

He was given a player with a specific skillset (playmaking Center), and that player was played in the wrong role & with the wrong linemates for 90% of his time here.

That's the way it SHOULD be looked at.

If you're not using the pieces you're given properly, how can you accurately critique their play?

Not saying you're wrong, but I like looking at the core issues.

Did the Canucks need a play making center?

That's a question we need to ask. I would say no, no we didn't.

2012 press conference:

Is AV's job safe? We'll look at the body of work and make a decision.

Will Luongo be back? Unlikely.

Sounds similar to what we heard at before the trade deadline. My expectations are not very high at all.

He also said that when he got here but we have the same core .

Not a fan of the overage draft approach. I'd rather draft some of the youngest players in the draft who have more years to potentially take a big step in their development and end up being great value picks. I like the OHL scouting/drafting for sure, might as well keep going to that if they can't trust the other scouts.
- Nucker101

I'm ok with it in the later rounds.

Mallet was a risk, but several accounts said the Canucks really wanted him, and caught wind that another team planned to take him with a 3rd rounder, which the Canucks didn't have.

They're 5th rounder in the 2012 draft, Ben Hutton, who was an overage pick, is looking like quite a steal. Had a great year with Maine.

Grenier, another overager from 2011, who many had given up on, had a good season with K-Zoo, and looked dangerous at times in 4 games with the Wolves. Total top6 boom/bust prospect.

Can't lie hearing that made me sad. I dislike they think our defence is at their prime and that "need to get younger"

Our defence sucks. Okay let me explain. Edler, bieska, hamhuis, garrison all play the same brad of hockey basically.

Well I completely disagree. Kesler is not a Top 6 center unless you're okay with the one man show thing. Even Gillis & Gilman suggested Roy should be 2LC & Kesler could be played on his wing when the acquisition happened... but also said it was up to AV. AV made the wrong choice (as usual).

Did Gillies just hint out he might also trade Shneider?
- Alexzanki

Gillis was asked if there is a chance Lu would be here next season , his reply was "I doubt it ". That doesnt sound like hinting Schneider would be moved

Tired of the projects. Oh and the stupid NCAA products. Draft from the CHL. Ohl has an excellent crop of players this year.

Later rounds, I have no issues with(no really can). After the 2nd round it really is a complete crapshoot and there is no such thing as a BPA at that point since some team scout certain countries/leagues more than others and trust the input of certain scouts more as well. I'm just not huge on the Grenier/Mallet picks. IMO guys like Mallet with 3rd/4th line upside can easily be acquired through free agency or with NCAA free agents, I'd rather take a prospect with the max upside of a potential top 6 forward or top 4 d-man in the second round.

That's just my personal preference and views of course. At least MG's first rounders have all been pretty decent, and he doesn't go off of the board with WTF picks like Nonis did.

For how many years now we have been "adding pieces" and resigning our own players. We need to make some hockey trades. Key players swapped for high first rounders. I hope we don't resign alberts or Raymond. Pinizzotto didn't do any good.

There's also such thing as playmking wingers though, I wouldn't have any issues with Kesler at center if Gillis could acquire someone like that. Wingers can carry and control the puck as well, someone like a Hemsky/Parenteau would work really well with Kesler IMO.

Probably won't work with the cap going down.
