You can swith the 3 rd and 4 th line

Higgins Gaunce Booth
Nino Lain Hansen

- VANTEL

I know where you are trying to go with it, and agree with your thinking. We just get into an issue where guys on our 4th line are not suited to be on the 4th line.

UFA's I would look at
Fistric (replace AHLberts)
Steckel for 4th line C, a guy who can take faceoffs and PK
Torres
Bickell
Bozak and Clarkson (will cost too much)

Most holes will have to be filled by trade, not alot of UFA's who would help us

Ahhh, when you said bandwagon I though you were suggesting you weren't the only passenger.

We could get a better return than that for Edler.

Because Ebbett is a better option?
- VANTEL

There's free agents, Canucks can't afford to sign the big guys but there's always bottom 6 players available plus who knows what trades will be made. I would definitely not pencil Lain in before training camp, he'll definitely have competition(knowing Gillis he'll sign 3 or 4 project types with decent AHL numbers and have them all battle it out for the 4th line with the prospects).

St. Louis has the second lowest payroll, and a few guys that are in line to get paid. I would love a guy like Burglund as the third line C, or if you could somehow pry Oshie out of there. It would take at least Ballard AND Raymond, but I suppose the Canucks could throw in some quality prospect like Rai to make it happen.

I ve been on the Edler for Simmonds bandwagon for a while . If you can get Nino N for Lu that would be great .I like his game

Burrows Kes Simmonds
Sedin Sedin Kassian
Nino Gaunce Hansen
Higgins Lain Booth

- VANTEL

I think your dreaming if you think we even have a shot a Simmonds. Not a chance.

IMO that is reason #1 to fire a coach. You give him the tools and then he tries to make you look like one. Here's the door don't let it hit you on the as on the way out.
- thundachunk

Exactly. Gillis brought in proven players in Ballard, Booth, Roy, etc, these guys aren't washed up veterans or unproven prospects so clearly coaching was the problem.

Agreed. I think Philly would counter with Read+. Holmgren is aggressive, but he's also a stubborn guy as well. Usually guys like him and Sather get the most out of trade negotiations.

For everyone that thinks that Canucks have not drafted well in the late rounds:

Burrows - Undrafted
Tanev - Undrafted
Bieksa - 151st overall
Hansen - 287 overall
Edler - 91st overall
Corrado - 150th overall

I know we don't have Datsyuk or Zetterburg, but cosidering the importance of those 6 guys to the team now and going forward it looks like we don't have the problems that we think we have in the later rounds of the draft.

- fiveandagame

Also, guys like Blomstrand, Tommernes, Andersson, Polasek, and Price appear to be close to contributing, whether in a call-up or permanent role very soon—all round 5 or later picks.

I honestly think one of Blomstrand or Archibald will surprise in next year's camp and win a bottom-6 full-time spot on the roster.

For Edler?

The "+" would have to be something fairly significant.

I like how Oshie plays, I don't like his injury issues, could be Booth 2.0

Don't get your hopes up.

Still a possibility, I guess, but it would be the worst move in terms of his development.

He needs to dominate offensively against guys his age for at least another season.

IMO Edler would be a great fit in PHI. If they don't want to give up Simmonds I would ask about Hartnell.

Yeah, Vantel usually pushes pretty hard for the young guys but I doubt Gillis and the new coach will be comfortable with Gaunce and Lain both down the middle.

Too much? Maybe Rodin instead of Rai?

There are 8 RFA's and 5 UFA's in the system, plus 3 RFA and 8 UFA's with the Canucks. Wait a sec while I do a bit of math. Ok, 8, carry the 1, take the square root of the hypotenuse and...

11 RFA's and 13 UFA's, that's uh, uhm 24 out of 50 contracts that need to be negotiated.

UFA's:
Roy
Malhotra
Raymond
Lapiere
Sestito
Pinizzotto
Alberts
Barker
Ebbett
Vandermeer
Mullen
Desbiens
Gordon

RFA's:
Weise
Tanev
Joslin
Sweatt
Lain
Schroeder
Schneider
Rodin
Archibald
Sauve
Rai

I bolded the players I think MG will actually re-sign, but who knows.

I would gamble on a cheap 2 way deal for these 2, see if they pan out after another season or two.

Read and a young d-man or a pick/prospect I'm guessing would be what Ohilly would push for. Simmons is like their Burrows, only younger and more physical.

It's not even that he couldn't hack a 4th line role—he's big, uses his body well, is decent on faceoffs (albeit against players his own age who are usually much smaller), and is one of, if not the best, defensive forward in the OHL.

It's that it would ruin his development. It could be the difference between him turning into a Handzus/Malhotra type C, with limited offensive upside, or a R. O'reilly/J.Staal/Kesler type centre, who can get above 55 points to go along with the defensive attributes.

I'd really like to see Lappy back as 4LC, but I think Gillis will let him walk because of his rep with the refs. Archibald will definitely be re-signed, I could maybe see Alberts back, ditto with Rodin.

And I think Gillis will tender him the minimum qualifying offer.
