There's also such thing as playmking wingers though, I wouldn't have any issues with Kesler at center if Gillis could acquire someone like that. Wingers can carry and control the puck as well, someone like a Hemsky/Parenteau would work really well with Kesler IMO. - Nucker101
Yeah, well we didn't acquire that. We acquired Roy. |

You do know the cap is going down like 8 million next season right? We need to get rid of salary - manvanfan
Just like 3/4th of the league. I think if Gillis can get a wash on Luongo's salary he should take it and try and cut salary somewhere else. Or else he will have to buy him out or put him on waivers just to try and free up 5 mill of wasted cap space. |

Simple. Find a team with cap space. Flyers have the highest in the league next year. Luongo isn't that bad for a #1 goalie. Just the length is the problem |

I wanted Parenteau last year, but I thought the Avs overpayed for him, but looks like I was wrong as he's been great for Duchene. Just pointing out that Kesler can work at center as well with that type of a winger to carry, control and pass the puck. He probably would have struggled in a dump and chase system as well though.
Roy IMO would have been an excellent addition if this wasn't a dump and chase team. Ditto with Booth. Those types of players will never fit well under a coach who wants all of his lines to dump and cycle since they thrive off of the rush and transition game that teams like the Hawks play. |

flyers suck because their prospect pool blows, especially on defense and in goal. why they have to go out and give stupid contracts to guys like byrzgalov and give up assets for mason, schenn and others. vancouver should not continue to go down that road... |

Well again, it's about AV using the talent he's given properly. He never has... I've said this a million times, but he loves to stubbornly and repeatedly force square pegs into round holes, and then blame the pegs. |

This is the Canucks biggest problem this offseason. The cap is going down, they have to get rid of 3 players (Ballard, Booth, Luongo) as well as improve the team and they only have 2 buyouts. Good Luck Gillis.
How does Aquillini feel about uying out Ballard an Booth? That is a lot of frigging money to just flush down the toilet. |

Would Detroit take
Edler for the 16th and quellet? |

Bold move of the summer
Luongo and Edler -10.3 cap hit (sorry Fosco) for Briere and Simmonds 10.5 Cap hit.
Edit: - Sedin / Sedin / Simmonds
Burrows / Briere / Kesler
Higgins / ? / Hansen
? / Lapierre / Kassian - fiveandagame
I like Simmonds for Edler . I think it is time to drop Lappy if we can find an upgrade. Even though he has shut up ,he still has the reputation.I hope Burrows and Kesler play together next year. |

If we buy them out its still going to cost us 2.4 in cap space. You'd be better to trade them for low picks |

It's not simple. Almost every team in the league is going to be trying to dump salary on the couple of teams that have cap space. The reason that most of those teams have cap space is becasue they have an internal budget. This offseson is going to be a mad scramble for a lot of teams. Teams with cap space and the willingness to spend are going to have lots of options thrown at them. |

doubt it too many guys to resign here to take on a bigger cap hit unless they buy someone out. |

Tired of the projects. Oh and the stupid NCAA products. Draft from the CHL. Ohl has an excellent crop of players this year. - manvanfan
Agree about the OHL.
Disagree about NCAA. The Canucks have been decent there. Tanev (not a draft pick), Price, McNally, Hutton, Cannata, Labate are all very promising considering where they were drafted. I'm guessing you're not a fan of Schroeder, either, since he ended up going the college route.
Don't understand your issue with projects—outside of the top 15 picks, they're almost all projects.
I suggest you do a bit of browsing about draft success rates and the average times it takes for draftees to become impact/regular players in the NHL. |

19 players signed with 12 million in cap space. Edlers new contract is 5 a year. Still leaves 7 but filpula has to be resigned too. |

Waivers - VANTEL
Thats what Im afraid of. The best goaltender to ever play for the Canucks is going to be lost on waivers. I understand that is might have to be done but what a way to destroy an asset. |

Fire AV. Hire new coach, see what direction new coach wants to take and how he wants to use the 'talent' on the roster, then make your moves, all before the draft.
Luo must be moved, same with Booth.
Ballard could be kept if moving one of the other D for talent upgrade. Ballard and Tanev are a good pairing.
Would keep Hamhuis and Garrison, trade either Edler and/or Bieksa. |

If there is something I like about the nhl it's the draft. I understand that after round 1 it's a crap shoot. I don't see it that way. The players we pick just don't produce because van thinks they are getting a steal. There is dominate junior players and players that play a nhl games in juniors that has yet to be refined. |

I think it is better than taking on another bad contract . If he is not picked up then take on a bad contract . |
