Only if the forwards found the back of the net -- and their own defensive zone, too.

Agreed, despite our Complaining, Bryz was one of our best players on the ice. And if you don't think he was very good at times... you might be right, but he was still one of the best players on the ice for us... and maybe that was more the team's issue than goaltending.

I agree 100% about Crosby. He is a true generational talent... Malkin and Stamkos' of the league next... then Tavares.

I love the way JT plays the game.. kid has no quit in him. When he tied it up last night I was with a bunch of my hockey buddies.. I said "He's gonna score here.. watch" Im not Nostradamus.. you can just see him taking over.

JT reminds me of Joe Sakic.

Bryzgalov will be russian downfall, and Bob is up for Vezina.

I just can't stop laughing

Oh and Fleury, I almost ruptured my spleen last night. What a cluster(frank).

I just love watching them implode let's hope this continues

I wonder if Bryz would be as highly criticized as he is if he were an American goalie who spoke well?

You mean like Robert Esche or Martin Biron?

I know goalies will always be nitpicked here in Philly, but I think Bryz has had it much worse than any since Roman Czech.

Maybe, but I think both of those guys have had to bear responsibility for how they were perceived.

Not if he played like Lundquist...

i'd be thrilled for him. kid is a very, very good goalie. shame we can't just let a kid breathe and find his way. and you know, maybe...MAYBE this team would have found it's way into the post season with Bob playing the way he did this year.
- hammarby31

The outcomes might not be different, had he played here: Bob was playing for a different system under a different goalie coach.

Or like Vanbiesbrouck, Hextall (the second time around, especially his final two seasons), Garth Snow Sean Burke, Jeff Hackett, Brian Boucher (after his stellar rookie year) or Michael Leighton?

Going through those names, I tend to forget that the Flyers have had a decent number of American born goalies in the past decade and a half.

I think it just gets elevated for Bryzgalof because of the sound bites. He makes an excellent sound bite and it has little to do with his English.

I would say that Akeson has the size, style, and skill set of......Jon Sim. That's who he reminds me of. We'll see if there is a difference in the future.
- MJL

Akeson does seem to have a lot more drive and desire than Sim ever did, though. Sim seemed to feel that his skill should have been enough, or at least that was my impression of him. He simply seemed to feel he didn't have to work as hard as other fringe guys.

No, according to Randy Miller, Mason played at a "Bernie Parent Level" during his 7 game stint. No fears that he'll stumble and be a whipping boy

Bernie has been a whipping boy in this town for 30 years. Granted, its usually hot women half his age on his large fishing boat off Somers Point, but that is just semantics isn't it?

Except for size, Akeson and Sim are complete polar opposites... Sim is a dynamite N-S skater with average hands while Akeson's a poor man's Sam Gagner, fast hands, slow feet. I remember Sim being pretty chippy and being a bit of a bowling ball... if he was even remotely dependable defensively, he might have been a nice Powe predecessor. Akeson is top-six or (bust) off to Europe.

Not even the reborn Ovechkin? I'd take OV over Crosby at this point considering their respective injury histories.

I can remember reading reports that Sim would not exactly win many off-ice fitness awards as well (implying he didn't work very hard off the ice).

That might be what I was thinking of in regards to Sim...I searched for some highlights and is a feisty little bastard.
