Vokoun/Fleury might not be as much of the issue here as Nabby needing to play better. Nabby is sporting a 4.55 GAA and an .846 save percentage in the four games so far. I know I'll get killed for this, but can Poulin do much worse?
- UIF

i think we have to remember the penguins are sporting an allstar lineup...they also get paid to play...id say nabby has been average given the circumstances and the team hes playing...they cant play poulin for multiple reasons:

1) the past 3 games theyve been playing well, no reason to change things up
2) nabby is a team leader and THE veteran voice on the team
3) he has playoff experience

i have to say though, that goal he gave up to neal where nabby was 20 feet out of the crease was ridiculous.

yeah, I think it was understood that they wouldn't make this change but worth considering if Poulin couldn't do just as well or better. I thought after he got caught sleeping on the one goal he gave up, he looked pretty sharp in game one.

i hear that discussion... but to add "#4" to my list...i think its a really risky time to make such a bold move like that.

if people were debating the fluery/vokoun situation; given the fact that fluery has been terrible and vokoun IS an established goalie and yet there are still saying to play fluery, this one seems like its nabby all the way.

I think the Isles should seriously consider dressing Brett Lindros for the next game for his speed and soft hands.

Vokoun IS starting so that one is settled.
I agree that this would be the wrong time to the make th echange, but I think I'd probably put Nabby on a shorter leash at this stage. Being tied 2-2 against a team that was heavily favored to wipe us off the mat would be no time to take our vetern goalie out of the mix. I'd be more concerned with the effect it would have on the players rather than the net itself. I do actually believe that Poulin quite possibly would perform better though. I'm a big believer that goalies who are scared in the playoffs, seem to play better. Something about kickning the reflexes in overdrive.

If he gives up a bad goal early, they'll be in a world of hurt. I think Vokoun is one of the more underrated goalies in the league over the last decade. The guy has never had a save pct below .909 in his career. The Isles need to keep him moving constantly

When they were losing to him they weren't a team crashing the net like they have been, getting the dirty goals. They were more of a perimeter team. That's changed. If they stick to their play of late I'm not worried. That's not saying that vokoun doesn't cone in and kick butt. We all know how that works sometimes.

This is very true. One of the reasons Fleury keeps giving up goals from behind is he's already down after an initial save. The Pen's defense has been awful at keeping the Isles away from the net. If I'm Cappy, I'm reminding the Isles to crash the net like crazy.

carkners value isnt just what happens on the ice...him simply being in the lineup has value. you put in hickey and radek for cakner & amac, the team is too soft at that point. hickey was targeted in game 1...im a big hickey fan but he is too small for no one else to be there to have his back.
- LetsGoIsles

like when cooke manhandled carkner leading to a goal? i'm ok either way jack plays this

Exactly. The guy is garbage. Guys like that are good for the occasional game during the Regular season when you want to goon it up or prevent the other team from doing so and to be honest I though he was a better fighter then he really is. Come playoff time those guys don't play for a reason. He is slow, doesn't take the body nearly enough for a guy his size, no offensive game and not really good at any one particular thing. The pens are blowing by him and he can't do anything about it. I'd rather see martinek in there then Carkner at this point. Its not like he has done anything to prevent the Pens from doing anything from a physical stand point so what purpose is he serving? Especially with Amac down you need another guy who can play more then 7 minutes a night
