where does Philly come up with these awful media celebs? do the sport fans in Philly really listen/watch this crap?
- vejim

Yes they do. They eat it up. When it comes to Sports Radio in Philly sometimes I think it's as much about becoming a quasi celebrity yourself as it is about sports. There are lots of repeat callers who take on a smattering of celebrity from being on the air. Hell, one of them even has a weekend show of his own now.

Deserves it with the way he played this year. May not like him, but he's a hell of a player.

He's an all-star. Not a Norris trophy guy IMO.

I think he played at a Norris-caliber level this year, though.

any general sports columnists, as opposed to specialists like Allen or Peter king?

I think Rich Hoffmann is very good.

I'm sure there is plenty across the Country who do a good job. Are you saying there isn't?

Maybe.

I feel like Letang gets pushed on fans during telecasts like he's Raymond Bourque.

Why no Chara in the finalists this year?

Bit of a rough game for Oliver Lauridsen through two periods against Slovenia. Hopefully he closes out game strong in the third.

Gus's play, the lack of UFA Defensemen, the High Premium paid for puck movers or 2-way blueliners at this point. These are all reasons I agree with Homer to wait and see how Meszaros & crew return from injury and simply write last season off as an aberration. With a healthy Kimmo, Mez and significantly improved Gus moving the puck and Schenn, Coburn & Grossman (all of which make good first passes) providing Big body D, I think we can compete at a very high level without having to lose Coots, B.Schenn or Read to trade (at least not yet).

I know it's boring and not typical Flyers thinking. But doing nothing but resigning our RFA's, drafting the best availible player(hopefully Pullock) (and maybe resigning Gags) might be the best course of action for this team.

Ryan Suter is probably the favorite to win the Norris Trophy. Imagine that. How is it possible? Shea Weber carried him all those years in Nashville. First year as a # 1 d-man on a team, and he's a Norris Finalist.

Those Carle/Suter debates sure were laughable. Anyone who thinks Carle is in the same stratosphere as Suter is a super clown of the highest order.

Chara? Well, he was 39th in defenseman scoring (Letang was tied for 1st despite only playing 35 games). He had a worse +/- than Letang. Letang logged more time/game than Chara. There's a much better case to be made for Duncan Keith than Chara this year.

Bill,

Do you think RFA Voynov would be a good fit with the Flyers and if a trade with the Kings might be feasible ?

The kid looks great already and he is only 23 years of age. I would think trading for Voynov will cost the Flyers less than going after Shattenkirk.

Voynov's emergence made it possible for LA to trade Jack Johnson and acquire Jeff Carter. No Carter, and LA MAY not have won the Cup.

He'd definitely be a good fit but I don't think the Kings would look to trade him.

thanks again Bill for the updates

i think that Sam Donnellon's piece on Ed Snider this morning made some salient points about how the flyers have operated in recent yrs. while i think there is more patience in the heart of the fan base than Sam i agree w/ the overall tenor of this passage:

Like Boston Red Sox teams over the decades preceding 2004, Flyers teams have been built and rebuilt expeditiously to placate not just an impatient fan base but an impatient owner. In doing so, Ed has often sought to catch the latest wave, only to find it had already passed. When the Flyers built a team for speed, the league went bigger. When they built a bigger, meaner team, the league called more penalties. Hitchcock was brought in to trap and beat the Devils. Laviolette to open up a stagnant offense. No matter what the edition, the Flyers carried around that image they built in the '70s, their team perennially characterized as bullies no matter what the size or toughness of their current roster.
