That'd be funny, against his old team, but I'm going with Marleau.

That's when it really boils down to the coach doing a good job of tailoring the system to meet the roster's capabilities...and that's where my biggest concerns lie.

Also, Agree with Tomahawk on your draft profiles. Haven't made it all the way through, but the ones I have read are good stuff.

In all fairness, it was an extremely challenging situation with the D men dropping like flies and the resultant ad hoc pairings...I mean, if the corps was actually 100% healthy (even sans Pronger) there would be a measure of additional cohesion and transition game and offensive output from the blueliners that could have helped things to work better. Not to say things didn't need some tweaking...but trying to implement system changes during a lot of lineup changes must have been a bit like juggling chainsaws.

The problem is, a lot of the issues have been around for more than just this year. Not trying to discount the difficulty, just concerned that Laviolette would be slow to adjust if the Flyers can not acquire the types of players that would flourish in his system.

I hate to say it, but I'm as optimistic as hammarby until this team shows me otherwise.

Yes, I said it.

And it was apparent that the team was not effective playing the puck pressure press forecheck system, long before the injuries began to pile up. The Coach knew that they weren't going to have Meszaros, and that Carle wasn't back before they even played game 1. No excuses for the poor job that the Coach did this past Season. And if he deserves any credit, it's for finally doing the right thing when all the injuries piled up. Albeit significantly later then it should have been done.

No question...you know (just posted about it yesterday) that I feel the issues (the backchecking/support/gap etc,.) have been here for years (even when he had Prongs/Carle etc.)..I just think it's tough to finally hold his feet to the fire on it amidst such an abortion of a season. Looks like Homer and the org will give him a mulligan here...which I'm ok with. Hopefully, some things were learned through all of this that will prove valuable for next season and beyond.

Let's put it this way: an NHL commercial has just begun, how optimistic are you they won't show a Flyers goal against?
