The more i see people bringing up +/- the more i want to puke. It's not totally useless, but context is needed and it just looks dumb when you throw it out there as an argument on its own.

Huberdeau was a -15, so by using your logic, there is no way he should have been nominated or considered either. Dumbass.

This is ridiculous, especially because of last season with Nuge not winning it, and now Yak doesn't even have a nomination.. whatever one of these seasons we gonna win more than half those trophies.

Yeah soon real soon. When you trade one of your top 6 to fill your holes.

So the Oilers should trade a star player for plugs? It worked really well when we did that through the 90's.

He didn’t really say that. That assumes that the holes the Oilers have are roles that can be filled with plugs. The holes that the Oilers have need players that are a hell of a lot better than plugs.

The reason I don't think Yak was nominated was because he scored 6 of his 17 goals in the last 3 games. over 33% of his goals came in the last 3 games of the season. I think if Yaks showed more consistency (and I know he was playing on the 3rd/4th line at times) he probably would have been nominated and won.

Take away 10 points from the 1st game, middle game and last game of the year and Huberdeau's numbers aren't that great.

Smid sucks. But Schultz and Yakupov could have both been finalists for the Calder, or at least one or the other. He's right on that one.

Schultz is all about the offensive numbers that were mostly on the PP...not impressive...plus the guy was abysmal defensively ...Yakupov probably should have been a nominee but definitely wouldn't have won the Calder...at the end of the day people only remember who wins the Calder and not who was nominated ...it's gonna be Huberdeau no matter what.
- keatondixon

Yakupov should have won it you twat plain and simple...

I don't think Huberdeau should have been nominated. I agree with Gallagher, because anyone who watch the Canadiens (and I'm not even a Canadiens fan) saw that every night, whether he scored or not, he made a difference. He was always involved. Saad, played top line minutes, faced other teams top d-men, didn't look out of place at all and produced.

The third pick, I think the NHLWA sent the wrong message by not nominated Brodin. The guy played stellar on a top pairing with Suter. Played a ton of minutes and stood up well. NHL awards in general are being awarded solely based on points, rather than excellent all-around play.

Anyone who followed the Leafs knows that Jay McClement should be nominated for the Selke. He led all NHL players in short-handed ice time and is a large part of the reason that the Leafs PK went from 28th in the league last year to 2nd in the league this year. But because he only has 17 points, he probably won't get nominated.

-4 and -17 are why! How can you even suggest Schultz as a legit candidate for the Calder? At least with Yakupov you have a bit of an argument. Neither of them deserve consideration. Sorry. Not really.....

Anybody who watched the Panthers knows that whether he scored or not, he was the primary threat on the Panthers, and was easily the best offensive player of this rookie class. He should not only have been nominated, he should win it easily. As in, not even close.

Yes, I’m sure an “exuberant” Oiler fan will be able to look at a comparison of the offense coming from Yakupov and Huberdeau totally impartially.

Forget the comment about Cloutier thinking Smid should win the Norris, that’s your idea.

But all +- says is that you were on the ice for more ES/SH goals than you were for ES/PP goals against, and thats the point of the game. The argument against +- is often sample size, but goals are the only thing that counts for points as well. I'm not arguing that +- is more important than points, I'm just saying I don't think the NHL should get rid of it
- rollpards19

+- is useless because not all players play "equal" minutes. Some get tougher asignments and some are just on better offensive teams and some on better defensive systems. Its not even remotely close to an apples to apples comparison.

Letang, Subban and Suter nominees for the Norris.

Hmmm....1, 2, 3 in defenseman scoring nominated for the best "defenseman".

So how again is the number 1 rookie scorer not even nominated?
