NBC's job...especially post game...is to TALK. They purposefully create controversy. We KNOW this. Look at the ProHockeyTalk site...always stirring the pot...run by NBC Sports.
Honestly...this is good for the sport...even if it's against your team...because it's publicity (that's the way the world works today).
Here's the banter form NBC post game and the video. The thing they fail to acknowledge, is that Strait's right knee comes into contact with Crosby from behind...and if you watch this, you will see that Crosby loses his balance when that happens. That simultaneous pull from the top and push from the bottom would be enough to knock him off balance. His right leg is pushing Crosby forward from below while his right arm is pulling Crosby back from the top.
Again...no idea if he went down easier than he could have...but the evidence is a little less convincing of a dive than I think NBC would like you to believe.
Sid was driving the net, got better position on Strait, and strait put his hands on the FRONT of Sids shoulder pads. If isles fans are going to cry about that, then I'm going to cry about the other 2-3 poop calls the refs made on the pens. Like when Hamonic dropped his gloves and Cooke tried walking away, or Okposo instigated the fight with Niskanen. Calls have been going both ways and if you have not yet come to realize that calls like this are part of the game, then don't watch it anymore

What do you guys think about starting Vokoun next game? He was brought in as an insurance policy in case Fleury couldn't get it done. Since Game 1, where he had no real tough saves, he's been back to last year's self. I know the D hasn't been great, but still, 4 goals in back-to-back games is far from good. If he was on any other team, he'd be getting crucified right now.
I'm not saying Vokoun is the answer, but right now, I am saying that Fleury isn't. - jmatchett383
Couldn't disagree more.
And if you've watched games #2 & #3, you'd have seen the countless grade A scoring chances that the Pens have given up, and Fleury has stood the test the vast majority of the time. Not one goal yesterday was a bad goal.

They are giving up 4 goals per game because they are surrendering a ludicrous number of shots and scoring chances. The only goal that was debatable yesterday was the 4th one...and it took a perfect shot thru a screen to go in.

Those goals are funny... if Crosby or Malkin scores that goal to tie it up, all of the Pens fans would be talking for days about what an incredible snipe it was. But yesterday, I saw several Pens fans bashing Fleury for giving it up.

The 4th one by JT, he should have had. Also, the GWG in Game 2...well, that was...yeah.
I'm not saying the defense has been stellar, or even good. But Fleury seems to be held on this pedestal as this great goalie who can steal you games. Right now, he's not making those clutch saves to steal games. He's playing like a competent NHL starting goaltender who makes routine saves and a number of higher-caliber saves, but he's not NEARLY the same as he was in 08 and 09.
Edit: This is my problem with it:
Scoring chances aside, let's replace MAF with the much-maligned Bryzgalov. If he gives up 4 goals in back-to-back games against an 8th seed, all you'd hear about was how he's a bad, weird goalie and Philadelphia can never have a good goalie (which is true). But since it's MAF, he's not the one to blame. It's this pedestal he gets held to, where he can rarely be blamed, that is the issue I see, and I think he gets too much leeway.

anytime anyone uses those talking head goofs on nbc in milbury or roenick to defend their point of view...kill yourself. One is a shoe wielding child beater and the other is a crybaby. come on!
Yes crosby sold it. The object of the game is to win. He sold what was a blatant holding penalty. In OT no less to put his team on the powerplay. good, i hope he does it every chance he gets.
why the hell are we talking about that one penalty anymore anyway, in fact im done with it.
We should be talking about how the pens FINALLY showed a bit of character coming out cool and level headed in OT to play their game which resulted in the win. The the reports of no smiles and all business in the locker room afterward. you could see it in the post game videos with the players, in their attitudes. I have hope for game 4.
why arent we talking about the excessive amount of shots let on goal and how MAF (and im a huge MAF hater) has actually been playing decent enough to keep them in the game. If we keep the Isles to 20 or under shots this series is a cakewalk.
How about we talk about how dan decided to actually roll the line combinations more or less all game and how that translated to some clutch offense. Surprise!!!! Stick to the lines until Neal comes back and just slot him in the second line. offense will come as it always does. now we just need to tighten up on D. honestly our only problems right now seems to be backing off the opponent with the puck entering the zone, horrible neutral zone puck management and gap control. really... just fix those things and everything should click.
lastly, brooks orpik please please please come back. barring that i say try out bortuzzo. we've seen engelland and he can't stay out of the box or between the net and the defender. We've seen depres and sad to say i think the coaching staffs lack of confidence in him has translated into a shaky first game in the playoffs. try out bortuzzo,...or give depres another game and instill some confidence in the kid.
oh and game of thrones was legit last night. - saintjust21
the islanders averaged 31 SOG/game and have gotten 20 or less shots on goal this year 3 times...NEXT
Kunitz- accident or assault, on spearing Grabner in the nuts? - LetsGoIsles
Kuntiz wasn't on the bench while he did that, when you are on the ICE anything goes, a slash is 2 min in the box no big deal. If you are on the bench you do not touch a player that is on the ice end of story. Hockey code, you break it you get broken. He should get 5 games.

Although I don’t agree with what she writes, everyone has a right to his or her opinion. So be it. What I am outraged about with Ms. Cohn is that she referenced Mike Milbury and Jeremy Roenick! Instant loss of credibility. - the-mitch-wilsons
Oh yeah, you as a blogger have way more credibility than those two guys. I mean between them , they probably only have 25 years of NHL service under their belts. You know way more than they do.

And if it wasn't Crosby or the Pens didn't score no one would be talking about it. I seriously questions people's knowledge of Hockey when they think that wasn't a penalty. Reg or OT, it's still a penalty.

LOL... assault... but at least our guy does it on the ice while Carkner tries to remove Cooke's eye from the bench.
And you are the poster in the Isles board asking if you'd rather get a stick in the eye or the nuts...... I'll personally take the nuts considering I'd be wearing a cup but don't hate on Kunitz cause he's got more goals than JT.

I doubt that. Sure, it's magnified when it's a marquee player. But it's a pivital game is a playoff series in OT. To me, in order to get a penalty in OT of a playoff game, you either have to trip a player on an odd-man rush or have a stick infraction that causes blood (or a blatant too many men or a delay of game). I know that's not the case, but it's my feeling.

unreal.

Yeah, how did Milbury's post playing career work out...he never won a cup and wrecked the Islanders franchise for over a decade. Roenick never lifted a cup, but was great at trashing hotel rooms, calling fans idiots during the lockout, and threatening to pull for Canada when not picked for the Olympic team. In short, they are a couple of Ass Hats who get paid to fill the space with hot air. Nothing more.
