Teams that need a goalie (other than the Canucks):

Philadelphia
Florida
New Jersey
New York Islanders

- hankthetank

We can get valuable pieces from all of them. Might be worth dealing a Schneider/Edler package for something like the #2 pick (MacKinnon) and Bjugstad. They've got a ton of prospects already.

PHI have their young centers which we've spoken of at length but Snyder would need to buy out Bryz.

NJ I'm not sure if there's a deal to be made.

NYI clearly have some offensive talent that would help us.

I personally thought that the Kings would have been Van's best opponent when you consider the revenge factor and the extra motivation and fire that that series what have inevitably lit under the Canucks.

Instead, Vancouver underestimates San Jose and was caught thinking that the West was "lining up nicely for a deep run" given that a couple "tougher teams" would be knocking each other out in round one i.e. Kings or Blues / Ducks or Wings.

After watching Vancouver in recent playoffs, Vancouver NEEDS this type of added motivation to play their best hockey. They certainly have the talent, but they lack in other areas and adding the "hate or revenge factor" would only benefit them and that just wasn't there with the Sharks this year.

Why the hell does this team need extra motivation to play well. The 2 best games the team has played in the last 2 years was against Boston and Chicago. Why can't they bring that effort agaisnt every team on any given night?

I'm on record as wanting to play the Sharks. I thought we matched up against them better than the others (still do). The fact that we're down 0-3 to them is rather confusing I will admit, but more to the point it's flat out embarrassing. This is the SJ Sharks we're talking about here, the perennial marshmallows of the post season.

The honour of that title may be passed on this season...

Lots of teams shaking off old and creating new identities this season, both good and bad.

This is exactly what I just posted below...

I suggested that the SJ power play scared the crap out of me, hmmm, how many PP goals do they have in 3 games?

At least the Canucks made it to game 7 of the SCF. The Sharks have had a similar run of regular season dominance and never got anywhere near that. Tough to claim SJ gaining a new identity when they essentially have the same personnel up and down there roster as they have had for years. Hence my embarrassment.

Add Minnesota, Edmonton, Calgary, Colorado to the list of needing an upgrade in goal. Dallas as a maybe, New Jersey in a year, Buffalo as a maybe, Tampa has two unproven guys.

There are plenty of teams in need of goaltending, and plenty of goal tenders available.

- 1970vintage

Minny, I could see re-signing Backstrom as long as he doesn't demand too much. IMO Edmonton has bigger problems that Dubnyk, he's never going to be a top 10 goalie but he's a decent starter and has always played behind a mediocre/weak defensive team. Calgary, if Kipper retires will definitely need a goalie, but Feaster might just bring Ramo over to be the guy. Colorado, I'll say the same as Dubnyk and Edmonton. Dallas. Stevie Y really seems to prefer taking chances on young goalies in Tampa, and Bishop has shown the ability to be a number one goalie and both goalies are signed for multiple years. Buffalo, no idea what's going to happen with Miller and what they think of Enroth and the prospect they got from Minny. NJ is a also weird situation.

Luongo would be a great backup catcher. Baseball's are a little easier to catch than pucks and since he was with the Blue Jays he would never have to worry about playoffs.

Again, I agree that Luongo would be a value to the team, but not at the price Gillis is asking.

Luongo+ for Bonifacio and Blanco. A win/win trade.

Agreed, but he's asking for Lawrie, Encarnacion and a 1st. Looks like you're going to be stuck with Lu at the expense of acquiring some secondary scoring and/or grit.

He just wants to bring in some home town talent in Lawrie. Can you blame him?
Encarnacion would bring some much needed power in the middle of the line up. Both teams are f***ed

I clearly recall in the last couple weeks of the season when it looked like the Canucks would end up with either the Blues, Kings or Sharks in the first round that NUMEROUS, perhaps all, Canucks fans here were hoping for San Jose.

Be careful for what you wish for...

From what I have seen in this series and the LA/STL series, pick a poison. Canucks would be down 0-3 against all three of those teams.

The sad truth.
I think a lot of us had a bad feeling about this year's playoffs. They play in the worst division in hockey and fooled people with a high point total. After the only move at the deadline was to acquire a small 2nd/3rd line centre, that did it for me. Didn't think they would lose this bad, but had a feeling it would be another one and done playoffs. I know it sucks, but I am actually excited to seeing some changes this off season.

I was only pointing out that there are more than a couple teams that could be in the market for a goalie, and there will be more than a couple goalies looking for contracts next season. Minny could still sign Backstrom prior to July 5th, but unless its a huge deal why would he? etc etc.

Perhaps, but at least with a series against the Kings the "revenge" and " hate" factors would provide added motivation; While a series against the Blues could be slugged out in 2-1 games because it's apparent that goal scoring has been an issue with Vancouver.

The bottom line is that this team and coaching staff was not going to win a Cup this year. Sucks to get bounced early, especially in a sweep, but in the long run with a deep draft this year it's better than making it to the second or third round. Change is coming and I'm looking forward to it.
