Not a waste when you have the depth to roll 4 capable lines, I know that we're all used to having a scrub 4th line, but when I look at teams that make playoff runs and win the cup, they usually have a 4th line that's played well and can actually be trusted for a regular shift. Of course you need a solid 2nd and 3rd lne before you can even think of having a player like Hansen on your 4th though. I just hope that Gillis doesn't let Lapierre walk since he's a very capable 4LC that has raised his game in the playoffs before, but I have a feeling that he might just be let go. - Nucker101

Lapierre has been a huge disappointment as of late. |

I think Hansen on the 4th would be a waste. He's a great third liner. The Canucks just have too many 3rd liners who are playing above their role/skill-set at the moment.
With a capable 2nd line that has other team's worried, the third line is sheltered and would be more effective. - Fosco
Ideally I'd want a contributing 4th line of Higgins/Lapierre/Hansen (but Gillis went and paid Higgins to be a go-between for the 2nd & 3rd line).
Sedin Sedin Burrows
_______ _______ Kesler
Jensen Schroeder Kassian
Higgins Lapierre Hansen
Now trade Higgins and sign Torres as a UFA and I love that bottom 6. Young guys play sheltered offensive role and the 4th can actually make a difference and help reduce the mins of our top 6.
I'm DONE with Kesler's one man show act at center on the 2nd line. Move him to RW or trade him. |

Lapierre has been a huge disappointment as of late. - hertzman
Wouldn't say huge.
He was worse than last year, but part of that was because he was asked to play the 3rd line.
He's not a defensive liability, lead the team in hits, and he was the Canucks best faceoff guy over the whole season.
Perfect 4th line C, as long as his salary reflects it, and he doesn't get moved up in the lineup. |

IMO he's been less effective this year since he put that extra weight on and since he can't chirp and get emotionally involved. If I were the GM/coach, I'd tell him to go back to his original weight and chirp all you want, but just make sure you're agitating the other team's top guns and not their 4th line goons. |

Pretty close to what I envision the lineup like next year.
I have a hard time seeing even a new coach moving Kesler to wing, unfortunately. Partly because there isn't a 2C replacement, and I doubt the Canucks make a splash and get one in free agency.

How's Kipper's retirement plan coming along? Tanguay's golf game coming along? Oh, Iggy and J-Bo say hi.
Now (frank) off. |

CoHo is 1A in Cal for sure, but why bring it up? You would think with a line up that bad you would just sit in the corner and pick your nose.... rather than scabs. |

I am not knocking his game at all. I love Burrows but if he can fetch me the second overall and a puck moving Dman ,I am jumping on that train. - VANTEL

If you go and look at his proposal, it was Schneider, Bieksa, and Burrows for Campbell and the 2nd overall.
So he wasn't proposing a straight up swap. |

It was just a simple proposal.
A proposal in which you're getting an all star D who has a nearly .60 point/game average over the last 4 seasons, hits, and blocks shots, as well as a goalie who has been near the top of almost every statistical category the last two seasons...
Both are also only 26/27 and are signed to good contracts.
Established players > picks/prospects.
A simple "doesn't suit the Panthers current needs" would have sufficed. - Fosco
Please don't break up the Nucks.... I love how this team folds in the playoffs. |

No I don't think Talon does it, because it's not really ideal for where Florida is in their development.
Just pointing out that it wasn't a straight up Burrows for the 2nd overall swap.

Really not sure why you quoted my post...?
Thanks for contributing to the discussion, though...
Especially since there was so much material in this thread that would incite this type of response from Kings fans... |

My mind wanders to Kevin Bieksa who today whined to the assembled media in SJ that he thinks the way Thornton and Couture have reacted to slashes and punches to the face is "lacking integrity".
http://www.mercurynews.co...-sharks-logan-couture-and
Really? So now its "un-Canadian" is it?
Frankly the only thing "un-Canadian" on the ice this series is Bieksa's defense which is an embarrassment to a nation that prides itself on its hockey talent. Have the Sharks scored any goals this series when he hasn't been on the ice?

I also notice Bieksa makes no mention of his slashing Havlat in the balls in game one, but of course the Canuck players are all saints who would never play dirty hockey. |

I bet even Sens fans wouldn't say that they're more talented, but yes they're better coached and have a pretty smart GM and some good scouts. - Nucker101

You'll see how Canadian he is when we find out what injury he's been playing with. As for Thornton, that slashing call on Hamhuis was embarrassing. It was a love tap and he's shaking his hand like it almost got chopped off. |
