Well it wouldn't be similar in the sense he is Russian and is set to make $5 million next year. If he slides it's because some question if/when he'll come over.
- ob18

If he slides to #11, is he worth the risk over a Pulock or Shinkaruk hypothetically?

I'd take him without a doubt over Shinkaruk. Pulock on the other hand would still be the better player available if this was the case.

If both Pulock and Nichushkin were on the board at 11, it'd be a tough choice for me.I would probably lean towards Pulock.

Just curious, is Pulock considered a better NHL prospect then Maata during his draft year?

Others might be best suited to answer this, I haven't seen too much of Pulock to give you a firm answer.

High praise for somebody more or less new to the position but he's done well with the time he's had at the positon.

Nichushkin supposedly stated he would like to play for the Rangers or Flyers. Not that it really means anything, but kind of just adds another element to his unique draft status.

I think part of that is because of Pulock's relative newness as a defenseman. He's seen as having a higher ceiling than Maata, who for most scouts was seen as a "safe" pick, a guy who'd step in, be a good 2nd pair guy that a coach can plug in and forget. There's a lot who see Pulock being more than that when all is said and done.

Yeah, but any "report" from Russia is usually tinged with spin.

Of course, he seems to be a high risk, high reward picks this year.

The only real risk in Nichushkin is signability. But he's supposedly interested and wants to come over, so it might just be the waiting for a year or two.

So here's acouple questions for yall
firstly, how good is Pulock supposed to be, elite, top 2, top 4, top 6?
secondly, what are the realistic chances that the flyers even get sir Pulock? What are the chances another team overlooks his injuries and goes off the board to pick him at #7 or #8? Can we actually expect to be able to get this guy?

35 seconds in Zach Hall for Barrie with a bullet right off the face off. Stolarz didn't even have time to get set for it.

To me, the most encouraging sign about Pulock is that he's almost always mentioned as being smart, a quick decision maker, and having good hockey sense both ways. Some guys who can power through junior on pure athleticism, size and/or skill can really hit a wall when they turn pro... thinking and seeing the game at a high level is really what ultimately separates the wheat from the chaff.

Top line player. Should be available with all these great centers available early. Avs go Jones. Oilers will go D, just not sure who. I would think Nurse would be the best guy to partner with Shultz. Hard to say if anyone else ahead of us goes D. I think you can rule oout the Preds and Sabres tho.

Carolina and Dallas are the two teams that I have no clue what to expect. I worry about Dallas taking Pulock tho...

I'm doing a profile on Nichushkin now...

just a reminder:

I put together a few profiles of some of the potential Flyer 1st rd draft picks...I tried to consolidate information from a variety of sources and give my take...there are many links and yes, there are youtube videos! I'll try and add stuff as I find it, though I might be too lazy to do that, and I'm not being paid for it...so, yeah...

Anyway, I put them over in the Flyers forum section....for now, I have done three of the top Defensemen (not named Jones):

Darnell Nurse:

Nikita Zadorov:

Pulock was 6th in the mid season rankings, so 7 or 8 isn't exactly off the board. He projects as a top pair guy, with smarts. I don't know if he'd be there at 11 or not. It's possible, if other teams decide to go with the "safer" forwards or if they're intrigued more by the physical tools of a kid like Nurse or Zadorov.
