Which is exactly what happened to Streit at the other end just before...In addition Crosby got away with a blatant trip directly in front of the ref that led to the Pens fourth goal.

We can't necessarily blame the loss on the refs because the Isles PP has to cash in, but it is funny how the annomally of penalties seem to benefit Crosby more than any player before him.
Streit definitely got his hands up and I think it's a call they make during the regular season, though fans would still feel it was ticky tac, but there's no way a call like that is typically made in overtime, especially considering the ref didn't even raise his hand until after the play was over. I'd go as far as to say that if any other Pen or Islander was carrying the puck, that call doesn't get made.
In addition, I have no question in my mind that Crosby gave up the play to take the penalty. The way he through his left arm up as he went down was laughable. It's Brian Strait, not the Big Show.
The blame doesn't fall on Crosby here, he did exactly what he had to do. The blame goes to the officials who pocketed their whistles for several should-have-been calls but then suddenly decided it was time to make a difference.

I know I'm late to the party but BRAVO for the bolded part.

It's a major problem with officials... they feel obligated to put their whistles away late in the third of a tie game but once the game goes to OT it's like the first period of a new game and calls are made again. I was at game 2 and late in the first when the Isles had 3 PP's to the Pens 1 even though Pittsburgh was carrying play in the first, people in the crowd were yelling at the refs to make calls pertaining to the action on the ice and not to make them based on the scoreboard. It's human nature I guess... no one wants to be criticized or called biased so they tend to give the trailing team the benefit of the doubt most times.

With that said though I bet every Isles fan would rather a game where only mandatory penalties are called as opposed to hooks and interferences because that would result in a game where each team was on the PP 10 times.

it was a 50/50 call and if it were during the regular season...FINE, id be ok with it.

this is the playoffs!! the nhl playoffs were these penalties are usually pretty blatant.. then add on that its overtime!!! are you (frank)ing kidding me with that weak call!!! nothing is ever called in overtime ESPECIALLY not a call that is 50/50 during the regular season...what a load of poop.

then on top of that the amount of non-calls that happened before...unreal!!!

i never believed in the nhl/nbc penguins bias until yesterday...its hard to ignore at this point...what a disaster!

- LetsGoIsles

agreed.....tavares went down the wing, dumped it in and was held up.....BLATANT interference......no call. Im fine with that.....its playoffs. Refs should not decide the outcome....let em play!

I still cannot believe the big hit by Boyes on the JT goal. Bailey,JT, and Nino sounds sweet. It would be nice to see what Nino could do playing with real talent. You have to think thoough Nino would have to be included to bring back a big piece.

I'm not interested in making any big trades at this point. I'm hoping (maybe against hope) that this series will be the best free agent sales pitch we've had in over a decade. Frankly, if Nabby and Poulin split time next year and then Nilsson is ready to step up the year after that, our goaltending issues are fine. The dmen will start to filter in from the farm over the next two years as well. THen with Strome, Nelson and Nino, we're set on offense.
I'd rather we make one to two free agent signings and watch the kids we've drafted move up. We don't need too much at this point.

Amen Cannot make that call in playoffs OT and it will only fuel NHL/NBC Pens bias talk.

IMHO, resolving the arena situation and where the team will be playing will go a long way to making the Islanders attractive to FA's again. Removing that uncertainty is key.

You wouldn't have thought there is a Pens bias if you listened to Milbury and Roenick after the game...

If we can add pieces from free agency that would be fine with me. I'm hoping this series will be great for the sales pitch. I do not think we need to make a lot of moves. Still will be interesting what we do with all the prospects. We cannot keep all of them.

biggest non call to me in the game was when Crosby tripped Colin McDonald right in front of the ref, then the Pens grabbed the puck went to the other end and scored their fourth goal. I think that caused as much of my anger towards the OT call as anything.

I don't think Crosby is a constant diver, but I do think there's a bit of 'where there's smoke there's fire' when it comes to teams around the league complaining about him getting preferential treatment from NHL officials that no one else (including Malkin) seems to get.

the physicality has been relentless and the isles are finishing every check...except on crosby. iginla showed that if you touch crosby they are going to lose their cool and focus. if isles plan on winning another game or even the series, crosby needs to hit the ice.

Can we just move onto game 4? Rumor has it the bed at the Marriot was too hard for Crosby and the Islanders will be getting a two minute Unsportsmanlike Penalty to start the game as a result Seriously tomorrow nights game is a game 7 for the Isles

I think the lower end one's can be dealt, but guys like Strome, Nino, Nelson, Reinhart, Mayfield, Nilsson, Pedan and a few others are going to be the foundation of this franchise with JT, Bailey and Okposo (can't believe I said Okposo and Bailey ) for years to come. There's no need to deal them simply because we have a logjam. We've got a few players we'll be more than happy to part with (Aucoin, MacDonald, Boyes etc). So there will be room to keep the pipeline flowing.

I honestly have to say, with what we're seeing from this team and the young stars we have developing in the minors, Garth might have been right saying the rebuild was complete.

No doubt about it. I'm not going to sit Here and make believe otherwise bcs we have pens fans on here. The bottom line is we should've won that game. Should've never went to overtime. Our special teams have been bad. We score once on the pp we win that game.

They should be nailing Crosby every chance they get. Should be part of their game plan. Been saying it since bfr the series started. Get under his skin you get under the Pens skin.

Call was so bad Milbury and Roenick had no choice. The refs have to understand it's OT and the playoffs. This type of call cheapens a great game. The NHL does not need things like this happening.

Effort in futility. the important part is we are competing with arguably the best team in the league in the playoffs. We outplyed them in 2 of 3 games. I for one am proud and estatic of this team.

So everybody in here wants to cry about penalties, but no one wants to bring up that the Isles, in a tie game, got a powerplay with a little under 9 minutes left in the 3rd period. The story of this series is the ability of the Pens to score at will on the PP, and the inability of the Isles to score against the 25th ranked pk unit in the league.
