this is all I'm going to say, because this is the most ridiculous title I've ever seen.

54.1 Holding – Any action by a player that retards the progress of an opposing player whether or not he is in possession of the puck.
54.2 Minor Penalty - A minor penalty shall be imposed on a player who holds an opponent by using his hands, arms or legs.
A player is permitted to use his arm in a strength move, by blocking his opponent, provided he has body position and is not using his hands in a holding manner, when doing so.

He lost defensive position on Crosby and was defending from behind. Therefore he lost body position. He used his free hand and stick hand, both on Crosby's shoulder from behind. Therefore retarding the progress of an opposing player and using his hands in a holding manner.

You might not like the call, but it had all the qualities of a textbook hold. Body position lost, defending from behind, and TWO hands on the shoulder from behind.

You honestly think in overtime, Crosby beats his man and has a chance to go to the net and score to end the game, that he'd dive and run the risk of the Isles going the other way and scoring? Crosby was trying to get to the net and score, that's what's on your mind in OT. Get hard to the net and try to create a scoring chance. Diving, not getting the call and running the risk of the Isles taking off on an odd man rush is the last thing you'd want to do.

Good luck the rest of the way, I will admit you have deserved better, and Bylsma is the worst playoff coach year after year.

Does Canadian Pen Fan have authority to ban you Pitt trolls on here? Enough already. Get lost and stick to your board - show respect.

Yes, all the rules have always been called to the letter in playoff ot over the years

I suppose I'm just enjoying the irony of fanhood here. Most fans know it's typically got to be more than just a marginal call to tilt a game in OT, but in this case you have plenty of paid analysts saying it was a soft call along with some of your own fans. Still, if the Pens got called for the prior hook on Streit, I'm sure we'd see a river of tears on here leaking from your blog.

It's just a shame it came down to something like that when the 5x5 play was so good.

keaner, I have been posting here a long time. I have spent much time in Flyer blogs discussing games. I have posted in the Isles blogs during this series and am not trolling. I am here to discuss. I don't need to sit around in a Pens circle jerk talking about a 2-1 series lead.

I came into this series uneasy. Actually the 2 teams in the East that unnerve me are the Isles and the Leafs. Your team plays the system that has had success against the Pens.

I give credit and like to discuss and sometimes debate. I promise you won't see me here calling people names.

Lively chat only.

No problem there. You guys have a couple of pretty good fans who come in here and have daily conversations with us which is great. I just don't see how anyone thinks they're going to enter another teams blog and convince the fanbase that the call was warranted. It's beating a dead horse from both sides.

It is annoying listening to the Pen trolls defend the call. It ranks up there with defending Cooke as this born again saint.

Cut the crap trolls and lets drop the puck.

It wasn't that heinous of a call; however, it was a call that was being let go the rest of the game. For it to all of a sudden be a penalty on Crosby in OT of the closest game ever, that's a little big unacceptable.

He got hit with a weeks suspension.. illegal hit to the head
Actually he decided to start challenging a few folks to meet somewhere. So the ref's (rightly so) tossed him out of the game...

Also, I think it was discovered that he's bragged elsewhere of being the proud owner of Malkin jersey and is a fan of that team as well. So his "I just respect what they do" comments may have been a bit of an understatement

I thought (as much as I hate Crosby) that as soon as Strait had both hands on his shoulder it was impossible not to call it. It was a penalty and no question about it.

Isles PK was brutal, and Nabby hasn't been good at all so far yet we're still only down 2-1. He's losing his angles, his glove hasn't looked good and his rebound control has been suspect.

This is the Nabby in the playoffs that cost the Sharks so many years of disappointment. He needs to step up in a big way and cannot continue to allow softies. The fourth goal yesterday was a softie. Step up Nabby, or we're going out in 5.

Eh, I made my point that I don't blame the call for the loss, but to steal a line from Bill Daly, I wouldn't be dying on the hill defending it as a sign of exemplary playoff officiating either. And as long as we're quoting textbook definitions from the rulebook:

64.1 Diving / Embellishment – Any player who blatantly dives, embellishes a fall or a reaction, or who feigns an injury shall be penalized with a minor penalty under this rule.

I am so sick of hearing about the call. Really? Lets face whether Crosby dove or not Strait dragged him down. The Pens went on the power play and scored. We are in the playoffs playing the Pens as hard as we can?? I am extrememly happy with the last couple of games and like JT said they have been down this road before and will come back.

Listen Fleury is really not that great of a goalie we can score against him. We just need to stay out of the box and keep Andrew MAcdonald away from the ice at all cause. I think I was the only one jumping up and down when I thought he got injured the other night

This.

Two hands on a shoulder from behind is automatic, no matter what happens. There's no way a player is going to dive when you have a chance to go to the net in OT. You want to score, you're trying to score.

I personally was pissed off that the Penguins let another lead slip in a playoff game by taking their foot off the Islanders throat. I hate the prevent defense. Why change what was working?
