there are some serious questions about mez's shoulder, so i don't envision a scenario where he could be traded. don't think he has real value to anyone except the flyers at this point.
- isaiah520

Well Toronto really needs some top 4 defenders, so considering they'd also be getting coots in the deal I think they might take a chance on it, especially considering he's on the last year of his contract, so there isn't really much to lose for them, especially considering the amount of cap space they'll have this offseason to work with.

don't get the supposed reluctance to sign hall. easy to lose him w/ such a low salary and he takes hard mins away from key plyrs when needed along w/ superior f/o ability.

i'm always a big advocate of seasoning our guys in the A rather than sticking them out there for 8 mins a nite on the 4th line. the alternative - which worked for stamkos- is to keep him here and spot him the first part of the season, allowing him to work on his conditioning on his off days. then, midway thru, give him real mins in a defined role as a more prepared, more physically mature plyr.

This summer could be a huge summer for buyouts. There are players who we don't even know could turn out to be ufa's this summer. If I'm Tampa, I'm buying out Vinny. It's all about Stamkos now. If the rumors are true, I would consider taking a shot at Hossa. This summer will be interesting.

That goal was a million times worse than the one Bryz shot off of Clarkson. I hope the national media pays it ad nausium and there a million GIFs created

Why would we ever need Hossa? We already have 1 1st line rw (Jake) and 2 2nd line rws (Simmer and Read)

if you're talking about couts for gardiner, i think you've a very inflated opinion of gardiner. that's just my opinion, but i think it would be widely shared.

that's an x factor that may prove interesting, but if we are looking to add the right type of dman, i don't think that will be the way.

Well how likely is it that he will even resign with the Flyers? To sign Clarkson, and to bring in someone like Gardiner, even though he's still on his rookie contract, one of either Coburn or Mez has to go. I'd still rather keep Coburn over Mez
- JAKEw1234

Who cares if he re-signs at this point? If you can get something of value, maybe a high second rounder, fine. But there's really no reason, other than cap space, to just give him away.

If the Flyers buy out Bryz and Briere, cap space isn't an issue.

Read's still an overpayment.

He's got a low cap hit, a 20 goal season(and if you pro-rate his goals this past season over 82 games, he'd have 2 twenty goal seasons), he is a good two way forward and outstanding PK guy, he can play all three forward positions well and he's got a cheap cap hit next year.

That's too much to give up for an unproven kid. Compare him to Luke Schenn all you want, but Schenn was a healthy scratch 3 times in his last season as a Leaf. Gardiner was routinely a scratch.

You don't pay a premium price for a guy coming off a down year. Even in the Schenn for JvR deal, it was two guys who were young NHL regulars both coming off inconsistent seasons that seemed to need a change of scenery. Read's only issue is that he probably came back too soon after his rib injury.

Over the years when we let a player go, like Bob or Sharp or JVR or Downie (the list goes on and on). we get a lot of people asking why diddn't Management show some patience... well I'm saying we fans should have some patience. Meszaros has every reason to be healthy come the start of next season and has the whole summer to train. He's 10 years younger than Kimmo and when Timmonen was his age he had just had his first full season and was -6 with 25 points. Mez's first full season with Ottawa, he was +34 with 39 points and 16 of them on the PP. We have a guy who has the ability to step up and every reason to be able to be "THE" guy in Philly. Trading him when that's what we need doesn't make any sense to me. I know people want to tinker with the blueline, but honestly we need to realize that 11 games and some seriously random injuries are not a good gauge for a guy who can easily be a 40 point producer next year for us on the back end.

Oh and Lauridson's biggest accomplishment is that he hasn't played long enough to hit a cold streak yet. He's played very well in his time up. But he is a couple years of AHL Seasoning before I'd give him a roster spot. I like him as a call up guy right now and he's made some big leaps, but he's not going to keep improving at that pace. Just like Coots, Schenn, Gus and others, he's going to have setbacks. And once he hits one, I have a feeling I'll end up trying to defend all the things he did do well rather than trying to temper expectations.

I agree with Homer I like our Defense when they are healthy and there is no reason to get freaked out about their health until we know. Because there is no reason to think they won't get back to full health, for Grossman, Mez or Coburn. With Kimmo, Schenn & Gus rounding out our top 6 We got as good and big and as young a blueline as any in the league. They can skate, Hit, block shots and even shoot the puck a bit. I'm all for improving our future Defense, but at the moment, I think it doesn't hurt to wait and see.

Sheesh. Sorry to hear, man.

RE: My earlier words, you're welcome. I know I can sometimes come off as snarky -- and rarely mean to do so, but I don't like seeing out and out frustration from what should be a leisurely pursuit. It saddens me that Butsy decided to leave this place, for instance, so I would prefer that people be as gracious in respecting/reading other opinions as they are in sharing them -- starting with me. It is my hope that Butsy, rockychocbill, and ForeverFlyer16 (and others I cannot think of at this hour) will return at some point.

I'm not saying he's untouchable, I'm saying you don't trade him for an unproven player coming off a down year.
