Maybe the home team centerman moved first after his stick went in the circle?
- paulr

Maybe, but I'd say the majority of the times I saw a Vancouver player waved out neither player had put their stick down yet.

It was almost the Vancouver player was waiting for the Sharks player to get set and the lineman tossed the Canucks player out.

Not saying it happens all the time and the Canucks weren't guilty of trying to jump the gun at times, but it looked like there was more than one occasion when a player was tossed before anyone was set.

Sooooo, Luongo goes on a run (Schneider sidelined), Canucks win the cup and Cannata gets his name on the cup without ever playing a minute in the NHL. Has that ever happened?
- 1970vintage

There is a set of specific criteria to get your name on the cup. I've read it before, but can't remember if Cannata will meet it.

I think someone on LA who actually played a few playoff and reg. season games got screwed over last season because he didn't meet the criteria. One of the younger guys.

Think Cannata would have actually had to play in a few games, or something.

This team is a joke. Hopefully a major overhaul will be done this summer, because this group is going nowhere fast.

I'll be watching more Oilers hockey next year if its status quo, at least there is something to look forward to with them, instead of the heartless efforts of this current garbage roster, along with garbage management.

I think the backup goalie is considered to have "played" even if he doesn't sit on the bench. Being in the lineup is good enough, as long as he is on the game roster a minimum number of games. I could be wrong... Not like it will actually come to pass however.

If Kesler is sick and not "hurt" then the amount of ice time he plays shouldn't factor into his recovery. It also means he couldn't make it worse by playing more minutes (unlike some injuries). As you noted, he played more than any other forward in game 1. Leads me to believe it's illness, not injury.

It just reaks of the same crap that they pulled in the Boston series. Instead of complaining about the reffing and the cheap shots tough plays that aren't getting called. Toughen up and play the game the way it is played in the PO's.

And it is whining...public whining. Instead of whining, adjust your teams faceoff strategy to beat them at there own tricks.

- moondawg

Almost impossible to do. You build your team for an 82 game season. You make the playoffs based on that set of rules. They change the rules in the playoffs, make-up calls increase, they change the rules depending on the period, they change the rules depending on the Game (Game 1 is almost always called differently than Game 7). Adjusting your team's entire philosophy is almost impossible. Chicago didn't change theirs, neither did Boston, neither did LA, etc. They were better designed as a team for the playoffs, they didn't adjust to play in it.

Have you watched the Oilers recently? Heartless efforts is exactly what I saw down the stretch and there's absolutely no guarantee of some dynasty developing because of their high draft picks. Enjoy Oilers hockey.

Agreed. You never know what the refs are going to do. Should have the same refs for the whole series and either go where you call EVERYTHING that is a penalty, or you let them battle it out and only call the ones you have to (old time hockey). With our power play not functioning well, does it really matter what way they call? Still waiting for someone to step up and lead this team, hopefully we will see someone tonight before it is too late.

Being a fan means you cheer for your team, win or lose. Does not mean I agree with decisions made or management player and coaching choices. I had a lot of optimism after they brought Roy in at TDL and said they were going all in this year and then proceeded to make zero more moves. If we were in on Torres and needed to offer a 2nd round pick to beat the Sharks 3rd, then I would have. All in means going for broke.

You're not saying anything I don't agree with, but they're defineatley trending upwards, while this team continues to tread water at every level, they are a regular season team not built for the rigors of playoff hockey. End of story.

I believe to get your name on the Cup it's something like 25 reg. games, 10 playoff games or 1 finals game.

I also think that the winning team can apply to over ride it and make a case to have someones name on the Cup.

Yeah I wouldn't have liked to have seen them offer up more in a package and pry out Ray Whitney or Jagr in addition to Roy. Dallas were clearly in seller mode. Torres is also a great physical presence in the playoffs but given the past history of MG not meeting Raffi's demands I'm not surprised he wasn't brought back.

But we are where we are. We're certainly a better team than we showed in Game 1 and our top line in particular needs to be better (Shot count: Daniel 3, Henrik 1, Burrows 0). Not sure what kind of flu Kesler has but if he gets to 100% that should give us boost if for no other reason than to shutdown SJ's top line.

Excellent point, and one that should have been addressed by Gillis and used by AV.

Why did we not address the center position with a guy who can win F/O's and play the 3rd line shut down roll?

And getting some skill with size. Weisse is great, but why are we still missing a guy like Ott, Torres, Clowe...A guy who can play top 6 and clear space.

Point is, the adjustments should have been made a month ago.

Yeah, it's something like that. But the backup goalie does count as having played if he's in the active lineup.

Why are we even talking about this poop though? Getting to round 2 will be a pretty big deal right now for this team.

To be fair about your last point, Gillis did have a Clowe deal in place but he chose to go to New York. He also was close to letting Torres, but it annoys me that he wasn't willing to outbid San Jose for him, especially knowing that Torres has been a proven fit for this team.

I love Torres, but in reality all we really need is a coach who won't butcher the lineup every night.

I know, I was following it all very closely.

And Roy has been good, but we are missing some pieces.

And I still hate how AV goes public to complain about FO's. Did he not watch tape on this and prepare his team for it?

Cmon, if we have to win FO's with Wingers every FO, than that is what needs to be done.

That would go a long way towards stabilizing this team. Seems like players are getting handed new roles every night, sometimes every shift.

It boggles my mind that Mike "bold moves" Gillis can't see (or ignores) the way AV sabotages all possible chemistry/continuity/potential of the roster he's given. It's like AV coaches to make Gillis look bad, and Gillis doesn't mind.

The "C" word? Could that be controversy? Kidding aside, Im guessing Schneider's injury is pretty serious, fortunately you guys have a all-star caliber back up in Luongo. Unfortunately, the circus your organization has created around him probably makes him not want to give a rats as5. Knowing full well he is good as gone in the offseason, where he will reestablish himself as the known superstar goalie he is.

Something to note here, the Canucks talked about having little zone time in the Sharks end. Its no longer 2011 or 2012 with all the slow footed Sharks forwards and defenseman. Wilson cut the "fat" off the team by sending Clowe, Handzus, and Murray at deadline. Since then they have become more efficient at moving the puck out of their end much faster. And really have nullified the Canucks dump and chase game they tried to play on Weds, which isnt their style anyways.

Tonight the Canucks will be more focused and should be a hell of a game that can go either way, depending on which colored glasses youre wearing.
