Agree on the top line Center and dmen.

I dont know how we are going to get another top 5 pick to get a center . This team needs a Getzlaf/Giroux/Datsyuk in the worst way

I have no idea where to start with the D.

- senstroll

We have mega defense on the way though buddy.

Gardiner,Rielly,Blacker,Holzer,Percy,Finn. Our defense will be completely turned around over the next 2-3 years.

Phaneuf and Franson are the only 2 I can see keeping long term

just curious but why not either take both Orr and McLaren out or take Orr out instead is McLaren at least not a better player then Orr I don't see either being of any use in the play offs either way but still
- blizzzard

Sad thing is they spent more time in the offensive zone then the top 2 lines did for a majority of the game!

Although I could be wrong, that game saw me at the bottom of many bottles last night

That's a better line for what it's worth.

Kadri-Lupul combo is good, but they haven't clicked since coming back from that head-banger.

JVR Bozak Kessel should remain intact.

Defense must change. That was the worst part about last night. First pass out was, what, 20% or something? It was embarrassing. Koska needs to sit, indefinitely. Liles needs to be partnered with O'Berne (sp) and maybe try Gardiner.

- A_Tree

I solidly agree with our defensive play. O'Byrne for Kostka, all day, every day.
I think Gardiner is a risk, because he's not very solid defensively, but it's a risk that could pay off because he is a good passer and we've been missing that. He's got great vision.
And the JVR line has to stay together. You got that right too.

It might be too late in the season to make a rash decision like moving Grabovski to the wing. I'm not sure how effective he would be along the wall, kindof how Kadri was when we was parked on the wing. Natural centremen thrive up the middle. It would also form more of a top 6 heavy lineup. If the top 2 lines don't score, we lose.

I understand that we want to get Grabo going but it seems like Kadri and Lupul can get it done. We'll probably end up switching it back to MacArthur-Grabo-Frattin as our 3rd line

- t_leafs21

Grabo was going last night, that was part of the problem, he was the only that was skating.

Solid points.
I agree it's pretty late for changes. RC shouldn't have tampered yesterday. Really screwed us over in my opinion. But I think Grabo might excel at wing. He's fast and isn't afraid to play the wall.
I can't say I know for sure, since I dont think he's ever done it before, but you never know, really. And he might be really good with Kadri. And Lupul. Those two can make anyone they play with look good, on one of their good nights. I think it's a bad time now, but i'd look into it for next season.

And good point about the top-heavy. I had that in mind.
We had a lot of trouble being defensive last night and I thought the bottom two lines would be stable. I think if RC does the match-game McClement would be a good man to have when Jagr is on the ice. Kadri simply can't do it.
And our 4th line was outplayed by theirs so adding Colborne could hopfully give us a boost there.

SO, if the pieces of crap had been combined in a different order we would have won?

Ference is such a fackin dirty p-r-i-c-k. Will be about an hour-hour and a half until we hear the verdict.

With how bad our dmen played last night. What is the chance of Gardiner seeing time sometime this series? Against a team like Boston I think we could use a guy that skate it out of trouble.

Gunnarsson - Phaneuf

Fraser/Gardiner - Franson

Gardiner/Liles - O'Byrne/Liles

I like Fraser, he should be in the lineup but I think that was the worst game I've seen him play all season. Hopefully he bounces back

Kostka should be out. Possibly his last game as a Leaf

- t_leafs21

That was his worst game, by far. Honestly, he has to bounce back because he couldn't get much worse.

Ference should get a game - it would be two (maybe) in the regular season. I doubt he gets anything though.

Wouldn't worry too much. I think some of the young guys thought it was gonna be like a normal game after the first goal, Boston upped the ante like good teams do in the playoffs and some of the LEafs looked a little deer in the headlights. It's something that was very likely to happen from the 2nd youngest team in the league. The question now is can they now look at what to expect and answer the bell. Would have been nice to see one of those breakaways go in though.

No, not at all. We didn't show up to play. We would have lost, no matter what the lines were, if they played like they did last night. But messing with the lines sure as (frank) didn't make us any better.
I agree with you though. How was Carlyle supposed to know nobody felt like playing hockey yesterday?
You're right.

If the pieces of crap hadn't made stupid line changes and played with as much heart as Grabo, and not taken penalties in the third period stapling Kessel to the bench for the third, they might've had a chance. Also if the d-men could anticipate the hard forecheck better or lure the bruin to follow him behind the net the Leafs might be able to break out rather than forcing the puck up the boards past our forwards or up the middle past our centre where opposing Bruins are waiting to pounce, then maybe we would have won.

Plus all game the Leafs looked either like idiots not knowing where they were going (chasing the wrong Bruin) or standing still unsure if they should be going at the opposing player.

would you bench a goalie who stopped 36 of 40 shots in a 4-1 loss where the Bruins outchanced the Leafs 2 to 1?

No offense bud, dumb question. There are 16 other players in last nights game who you could pick on other than the goalie. Orr/McClaren and Grabo are the only ones besides Reimer who showed up.

San Jose owned them. No joke. If it weren't for Bobby Lou it would've been 6-1.

They were taken by surprise for sure. The scary thing is I believe that they have a better chance winning Saturdays game than either game at the ACC...

We are tough, Bruins are tougher... therefore we need to play to our strength's... our speed.

In: Frattin, Hamilton, Gardiner

Out: Orr, McClaren, Kostka

FYI: only Leafs win against Boston this season Gardiner was plus 2 with 20+ minute of ice time, while Hamilton and Frattin both collected an assist and were plus 1 and plus 2 respectively.

In the shootout loss a couple of nights later Gardiner set up a beauty for Lupul.

This is Boston. There will be no suspension. However, the Leafs may lose a draft pick for even suggesting otherwise.
