so when they win, hes a good coach
when they lose, hes a bad coach

who can guess what im about to say???

- LetsGoIsles

I have a problem with the lineup decisions. I do not expect the Isles to beat the Pens this series but when he play a guy like Reasoner Jack deserves to be ripped.

who's the dude that said you guys are 2 years away from being on par with the stanley cup champs pens?

last night showed otherwise....last night actually gave me more confidence in the fact that you guys are gonna be a mediocre bubble team for a few more years and possibly on the outside looking in more often than not once nabbys done.

I know we shouldnt encourage ambitious trolls hiding under the cover of constructive criticism but when I see WRONG shouted out from a soapbox, in front of glass house...well i cant resist.

Its so typical, rags fans talking sh!t over one game while not paying attention to thier own history, proving to the world just how clueless some people really are.

Ahem....lets wind back the clock 4 years. Rags out of playoffs for 6 or 7 consec seasons despite one of the higest payrolls with a revolving door of past prime superstars, draft busts & tradgedies and your 4th coach in as many years. Torts gets the rags to back in to playoffs on the last day of season, thanks to losses by other teams - 2 years in a row- only to be bounced in in 1st & 2nd rounds. Then last year with the best record in East & you lose confrence finals. Then this season- projected as legit contenders and you clinch 2 games out and narrowly end up 6th, with help.
Your team proves that with a forundation of young talent and a GM willing to roll the dice, you can go from not much to pretty f'in good and back to middle of the pack quite quickly.

We have young talent. We have one of the best pipelines of promising talent, a new arena on the horizon and a ton of cap space. What we dont have is a GM with any cojones, which when you failed to mention, was where you lost any ground for an argument. Hurry up and get to the blarney stone early so you et al can continue to convince each other how smart you all are and how great your team really is.

Cappy deserves credit for getting the boys ready to play down the stretch. We rip him when they're flat, so we should give him a nod when they're not. But even when they were at their best, he still made some maddening lineup decisions (sitting Martinek for the rest of the season for the sin of having his best game of the season and getting a goal, for example), and their success never came from superior in-game decisions and matchups.

The only thing that gets players prepared for that is experience. You can't coach that. You have to live through it and experience it. Cappy is not a great coach, we all know that. But he had this team humming along pretty well for a long stretch to end the season. The players ultimately play the game. They have to execute. The Isles' players didn't execute last night.
- Jethro09

Well said!

we will see if they make adjustments and respond in game 2.
JT no shots on goal last night. Pens had a game plan and executed to perfection.
the entire team had the "deer in the headlights" look the entire game.

we will see if they are up to the challenge.

It's stuff like this that makes him a horrible coach. You really question what's going on in that head of his? His decision making makes zero sense at times.

right...and i agree with that. he just isnt a very good coach...at BEST he is a little less than average, but i do believe he cost the team some points throughout the regular season.

I agree Boyes not getting it done, But you are crazy not to think that Moulson has been way worse. You want to say well he scored last 3 seasons to his defense. Sorry, that was behind us. right now we are in playoffs and moulson hasnt done anything in last 20 games.

Moulson deserves a Seat and Boyes Deserves a line demotion.

As for Strait, it hink he good dman but personally a healthy Martinek is better.

I gave Jack full marks for getting the team to the playoffs but that does not mean he get's a lifetime pass especially when he plays Reasoner and makes bad in game decisions.

what does any of that have to do with the team scoring 2 goals a game? Who cares how they are scored or if they are 5on5, 4on4, on the PP or the PK???

They don't score 2 goals a game. They score 2.71 goals a game.

The Islanders score 2.90 goals a game.

The poster I replied to has said many times how pathetic the Rangers offense is.

I was trying to relay that it is not quite as pathetic as he thinks.

apparently ses111:

Reasoner was not good enough to play down the stretch in important games and now he plays in the playoffs? JJ was playing fine and should have stayed in the lineup. Moves like this make it real hard to have any faith in Jack.
- ses111

You had faith?
- Cptmjl

Good point I had some faith before the last 3 games.

No problem. I agree Iginla and Murray won't be back. Bennett is ready for a top 6 role, and the Pens are so stacked at D that Despres, their best NHL ready prospect, can't get on the ice.

One thing I think you are underestimating is how much guys like playing here. The organization is great to them, and they know it. Dupuis has never had this kind of success elsewhere, has like 4 kids here in school, and can stay here the rest of his career and play in Sid's wing. I'd be stunned if he goes elsewhere. Anyways, like I said in my other post, I'm really not worried about it. Playoff time now, cap analysis in the offseason.

- Emperor Filonius

I am aware of how a lot of players are willing to stay for hometown discounts and it has been done before. But, especially in regards to Dupuis, this is likely his last shot at a big time contract. Unless the Pens are willing to pony up the dough, I think he signs for a lot more elsewhere. His stock will never be higher and I think he fully realizes that.

Plus, it's wishful thinking to see him elsewhere, as he absolutely destroys the Rangers, haha.

It should be an interesting summer in Pittsburgh, cup or no cup.
