I think the only positive I take out of that game is I don't see how they can be any worse.

They were standing around watching the Bruins skate circles around them, and we're supposed to be the "fast" team.

Looked like nobody wanted the puck, and they were tighter than a drum once Boston started applying the heavy forecheck.

Personally I think Gardiner might be able to skate the puck out of trouble some times , and I would sit one of Mclaren or Orr and let Frattin or Colborne have a shot.

After watching that game last night, I was thinking O'Bryne getting into the line up. Gardiner would get eaten alive in this series.

No way Ferrence isnt suspended 2-3 games after that elbow. So, thats positive news...kinda. Leafs somewhat needed a bad early game to make them realize how different and intense the playoffs can be...hopefully the day off for them will alow them time to re-energize and learn what that they need to do moving forward.

Those were the real Leafs and those were the real Bruins.

Has everyone all of sudden forgotten the complete and utter dominance the Bruins have had over us the past few seasons?

When did this one game become the exception all of a sudden? This has been going on for a long time.

- systemtool

No.

What about this year??? Not dominated in any way all year by them...... do we forget that??

I think the experiece would be perfect for Gardiner and who knows, maybe his skating helps them get the freakn puck passed the centerline.

Anyone who thought Boston looked beatable last night is in the Twilight Zone.

They outplayed them bad...looked like they had about 10-15 powerplays.

I would really like to know on what basis people think Toronto should be competing with Boston...

Speed, maybe; That is the only one I can think of.

Coaching - Boston
Defense - Boston
Goaltending - Boston
Team Physicality - Boston (Leafs toughness is tied in almost completely in 2 guys, who can't do much else.)
Forward depth - Boston
Home Ice - Boston
History between the teams - Boston
Playoff experience - Boston

This Boston team is largely intact from the team that won a cup a couple years ago. The Leafs either beat them with speed and puck pursuit and stellar-goaltending, or they go down hard and fast, faster than Fly-freaky even.

Bruins played good, I'm not knocking that, but we really beat ourselves.

There were a LOT of unforced turnovers. Even Carlyle said "guys were falling down when nobody was near them" and Lupul said that they were playing like they had "no time" to move the puck when clearly they did.

We outhit them, beat them at the draw, but took too many penalties and flat out handed the puck to them every chance we got. Yes, the Bruins forecheck looked pretty good at time, but they weren't grinding us down with their cycle play and dominating us physically like we've seen in so many games in the past, we just coughed up the puck in the neutral zone and well, it's not hard to sustain pressure when you're playing in one half of the rink.

... and Boston didn't look the slightest bit perturbed. Physicality is more than just dishing out hits, it is winning the puck battles along the boards, front of the net, behind the net etc.

I would take the physical presence Boston has throughout the lineup over Toronto's any day.

We have 2 goons who don't do much else very well and probably should not be on the ice. You remove Orr and McClaren and the Leafs are not tougher than they have been for the past 8 years.

For sure.

But none of the hits were as brutal as the ones Grabovski endured.

and of the 80% of the time they had we gave it to them. They weren't that good.

They took advantage of every opportunity we gave them.

Exactly...we took the game to the Bruins for the 1st 10 minutes of the game.
Then all of a sudden 4 shifts in a row - Phanuef dumped it high and long down the middle. You know like 3 feet high and long as in 12 inches, then Phaneuf does it again then Fraser then Bozak all in 5 minutes. UNMUCKINGBELIEVABLE -
Phaneuf LOST again...Fraser and Kostka looked like full blown AHL defenseman and why the (frank) didn't O'Byrne play??? WTF

The league really has a problem now... can they really suspend a Boston guy.

Imagine if a Ranger does something suspension-worthy tonight... the League offices will implode.
