I'd never buy it but the Wampas one is pretty nice.

Bill -- out of curiosity, what makes Grossmann one of the physically strongest defensemen in the league? Does he have an impressive bench press? Does he squat a house? Or just general observation?
- Tartan69

Source is Flyers and Stars forwards who have played against him at practice and commented that he is exceptionally strong physically, even among big D. In game situations, I have rarely seen him outmuscled. Colton Orr did it this year, and I've seen Joel Ward (with forward momentum) knocked him on his backside but you don't see Grossmann lose very many muscle-on-muscle battles or end up being the one to hit the ice in a collision.

My coach always says he rather see penalties due to being over zealous than a player being under aggressive because you can always work to teach the player to be more disciplined
- nastyflyergirl

Tell that to Behn Wilson, Dan Carcillo and Scott Hartnell

That is a good one, I agree.

Why number 9 for that one?

When Briere gets excited his stick comes up! Can't knock him for that...

They're not trading their franchise defenseman.
- phillydentist

Usually, a team wouldn't. In this circumstance, with a trade offered that fills their weaknesses and needs so nicely, with a player that, let's face it, almost all teams want, plus a very solid forward, plus a talented defenseman (despite this season), PLUS 2 1st round draft picks, and on top of that their defense would STILL arguably be the best in the league as far as individual players go. Everyone has a price, believe it or not. If a team made us the right offer for Giroux don't doubt we would do it, it'd just really have to be a good offer. I just don't think it would happen because we have no one to fill Giroux's gap. St. Louis absolutely has enough great dmen that while they would definitely feel the difference without him, their defense would still be great and it would help their forward lines out tremendously.

Yep, it's up to the player to be disciplined. Or if he can't up to the Coach to limit icetime. Lauridsen is a kid. He'll learn in time.

There are a lot of other ways of filling a weakness then trading a 23 year old franchise defenseman. Pietrangelo is not being traded.

Short of gutting a big part of our team and any reasonably good prospects at least.
If they want to target a future top-pairing defenseman, I'd try (most likely to little avail) to pry Carlson away from Washington. I know it will cost an arm, as opposed to an arm and a leg for Pietrangelo.

Think WPG has a tough time signing Bogosian this summer with all of their FA's?

I dont see how their defense is all that great without him. Listen, I post trade scenarios with the best of them, but I think were spinning wheels here. Its like people pitching giruox trades to us. Just tell them to stop.

The blues forward depth isnt as bad as you think, they have youngersters like Schwartz and Tarasenko on the rise. If anything, after this playoffs they may be looking to upgrade in net.

So you're saying that we dangle the right to Brian Boucher in front of them and watch them squirm?

Why does Carlson's name come up to? He is a good young defensemen playing on a good team. I think we are relegated to Yandle or Buff this summer

YUCK! I'm not a fan of either to tell you the truth. If it happens then I'll stomach it but until then I don't want them gumming up my fantasies. Thanks...

Like others have said, it ain't happening. Shattenkirk is one of the best young defensemen in the game, but even he can't touch Pietrangelo's ceiling. Bouwmeester is probably only there short-term to take some pressure off the kids. The Blues have everything set up perfectly moving forward... why would they ruin it all to add a few young forwards when they are already chock-full of young forwards.

Komisarek and a 5th for Giroux.
See how ridiculous that sounds (to non-Leafs fans, who would bash the deal)?
That's like any deal for Pietrangelo.

Shattenkirk arguably played as well as Piet this season. J bo is elite imo. Jackman is awesome, Leopold, and Polak are both solid. Even if they had Mez or Coburn instead of Piet their defense would still be awesome.
