Hamilton is still very young though, just as you state. So why not just draft a D man with similar upside in the draft and not put yourself in the position of having to trade anyone? And honestly @ 11 in this draft is going to have guys with just as good if not better upside than Hamilton who was taken @ 9.

If we're gonna trade guys I'd much rather it be for established players, even if that means the cost is a bit higher.

Exactly! Makes zero sense to trade Couturier who is on par in terms of potential with Hamilton, plus 2 first round picks, for Hamilton. When they can keep Couturier, and possibly draft a player or players, who could turn out better then Hamilton. Just because we need a defenseman? You don't make a bad deal just because you have a need. As you said, if you're going to trade that package, you want a player who is already established as the real deal. not one who might get there.

The example of a deal went wrong given is Toronto's deal for Kessel. Boston drafted Seguin and Hamilton with those two picks. And we'd be giving up a player drafted in the #8 spot along with it. Any GM who makes that deal should be kicked to the curb.

Well, I don't know, actually. If we traded 2 1st rounders I would hope they would be for the 2015 and 2016 draft (2014 draft is in philly, I think they should keep their 1st rounder when they host). I understand that this is a very deep draft. I hear from this comment board that Pulock is going to go lower than his actually talent level should place him. I truly believe that whoever the Flyers pick will be a very good prospect. But I also don't believe that the player we draft will be a future elite defense man. I don't think the player we pick will ever play at the Pietrangelo-Doughty-Karlsson level, unless by some fluked-out 1 in 1,000,000 chance miracle we end up with Seth Jones. I truly believe that Dougie Hamilton has not proven himself to be that player yet, either, but I believe he will, and soon. I believe when he does end up proving himself, if it isn't in an orange and black sweater, we will have missed our opportunity at him. Don't be dismayed by Hamilton being selected at 9th. Teams often get the incorrect notion that they need to draft to fix a current team problem. Great defensemen tend to be picked away from the 1st overall, but most times in the top 10.
- JAKEw1234

You have that backwards. Most top defenseman are drafted outside of the top 10. And a lot outside of the first round all together.

True, but it wouldn't be an offer like that. That was an unrealistic scenario to make a point. But Coots and 2 1sts, a 2nd, and maybe Mez is a pretty huge over payment, but imo both worth it to the team, and not stupid on Homers part to overpay like that.

You knew the bruins would score when jvr hit the pipe.

Leafs will probably find out jvr in beast mode is not enough to beat the Bruins. jvruseriously

Hey guys, was wondering if anyone can help me out with some suggestions. Im writing my senior thesis on the NHL CBA and how it is flawed, and I need some suggestions on what can be done to stop such frequent work stoppages. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated

The main reason that it's flawed is that it's not going to do much, if anything to prevent the small revenue teams from losing money. James Mirtle wrote a column detailing that we could potential see a $90mm cap by the time this CBA is ready to expire.

The guy you want to contact is the Blues Blogger, Chip McCleary. He is involved with Capgeek and actually wrote a sample CBA as a suggestion. He started Cap Central.

I can tell you the rules of the CBA and explain it, but for the most part how it's flawed and what should be done, is mostly above my knowledge base.

While your at it can you scratch our back and write up a sample shattenkirk offer sheet. One that might stretch the boundary of the spirit of the CBA. Ty

What he is saying here is that he understands the cap and the CBA so well that it is impossible for him to imagine a world where it does not exist. He and the CBA have become one.

Why would it be shut down by the FBI?
- BringBack25

The streams are unlicensed/illegal and they have the audacity to charge people for them... if that doesn't get the NHL's (and other league's) legal teams in action, I don't know what would. When (not if) that site gets shut down, I'd hate to have my name, address and cc# on their books.
