No team can go out and get a guy like Richards or depth role players like Fraser, Ellerby, Penner, Stoll and Greene, or secondary scoring like Justin Williams, or veteran reinforcements like Robyn Reghr, without giving up a stud 21 year old.

And don't get me started on how much it costs to bring in guys like Rob Scuderi, Willie Mitchell and Jake Muzzin via free agency. 7.5 million dollars total? WOAH MAN.

- Morris

Muzzin was an undrafted free agent, we overpaid to bring Scuderi here during our early rebuild. Key word we overpaid and thats what the Oilers will have to do if they go that route.

In Lombardi's defense, his formula for success was old fashion hockey trades. he acquired the following players via trade... Greene, Stoll, Williams, Carter, Richards. He gave to get key the players necessary to win.

The Oilers have a some of the players needed to win, but to get where all of you fans would like to be...the playoffs...You need to give to get.

Overpaid is redundant when the player makes under 4 million and you've got a lot of cap space.

My point was this: they didn't give an Eberle, Hall, Nuge, Yaks type to get any of Greene, Stoll, Williams, or even Richards.

Taylor Hall, Jordan Eberle, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, Nail Yakupov, Justin Schultz and Oscar Klefbom all aren't going anywhere

With this thinking, the Oilers will not go anywhere, you need to give to get.

Trading away talented players for plugs will get us back to where we were in the 90's when we traded away the likes of Arnot, Weight, Guerin, and anyone else we had that had any type of talent.

Amen. Our rebuild will be based around getting rid of one fairly skilled player (Hemsky) and trading one or two defensemen and getting rid or either trading 4 or 5 of our bottom six. Ontop of that we can sign new players. We're not trading away Hall for a Green type player.

YOU! Now have the longest playoff drought in the NHL

YOU! are now the butt of jokes in the league!

YOU! have to sit and watch the other teams battle it out and can't look away because the first round is the best 2 weeks of the year!

YOU! have Hall,Eberle,Nugent-Hopkins,Yakupov,Schultz,Gagner,Paajarvi-Svennson, and now the chance to draft Darnelle Nurse or Sean Monahan

I agree- we have to take our lumps- I will also add that Cloutier should do a white flag blog acknowledging that his assessments of the leafs and oilers the last 2 years was way off...

Further I am anxious to see what that fat bastard comes up with in the draft - as we have not seen anything come to fruition outside of the 1st overalls... picking 7th should present a challenge to say the least

You'll get there. You guys are going to be like the Blackhawks, there's not even gonna be a "pay your dues" phase.

It's gonna go from no playoffs to Bam! Conference finals, then multiple cup runs after that. You're future is too bright.

MacTavish pretty much said it's time to stop (frank)ing around and build some real depth around this young core. It's time to put a real team on the ice. I wouldn't be surprised if you trade your first if Darnelle Nurse gets drafted before 7. If not, you're probably taking him.

Then Nurse will be 2-3 years away but you have Klefbom coming over to join J.Schultz,N.Schultz,Smid,Petry and whoever you acquire this off-season

I guess it is possible but the D is going to be shiny new or he is dumping our back 6 like they were women you woke up with after a family reunion (this applies to flames fans).

This comment is as stupid, pointless and rude as your idiotic comment about sending your daughters to a certain school so they can potentially hook up with a hockey player.

You're a dumba$$, plain and simple.

Yeah. I think Brown should stay on the active roster. He needs to. It's the only guy who can really fight. I'd be fine with Harti being traded for a second round. Or what might be better would be to include him in a package deal possibly.
- mbxiphos1527

You're dreaming if you think that Harti is bringing you a 2nd. You'd be lucky to get a 6th. Loktionov only brought back a 5th.

Haha that's why I said "IF". He hasn't done anything. I certainly wouldn't give away a second pick for him.

Pretty much. Maybe we get a Brodziak return. I do believe the style Harti plays gets you more in return than a Loktionov, but not that much more.

Arguable as Schenn has played in a bit more of a sheltered role being that his team has more veteran depth and, arguably a better team. Eberle is 1yr older and has been given more opportunity.

Was he two years ago, when the trade occurred? I think you mean in a year or two's time Schenn will be on the same playing field as Eberle (3-4 years after he was traded).

I probably come off as a bit snappish. We get a lot of professors in here trying to tell us to trade off Yakupov + our 1st for literally dman or player over 6 feet 200 pounds.

Eberle was sheltered last year up until the TDD and his rookie year. PHI has lacks natural centers and have been hit with a lot of injuries. If Schenn warranted an opportunity it was there.
