I may be wrong but isn't this the year New Jersey needs to for-fit their first rounder because of the whole Kovi thing after they retained it last year?

we have this year and next so likely next year since we host the draft this year and its a really good draft I was watching and praying the nhl would throw us a bone for that penalty they laid on us haha but I knew it was just a pipe dream and I am not saying anyone should feel sorry for us for giving that contract but I would have liked to see more then just us penalized since there where other contracts that did the same but not as big
EDIT also Matteau is really making us regret not doing it then since he quit his team in the Q

Why'd he quit? Isn't his dad coach?

I feel sorry for you. The ruling was crap.

Every other team was pulling the exact same crap the Devils attempted.

So if the league didn't like it, just say no. Reject the contract. It's their freakin' job to look at contracts and see if they are CBA compliant.

Why were the Devils the only ones to get slapped?

God bless the NHL.

I feel bad NJ got punished.
It's not like they openly talked about signing players from another team still under contract and hopped on a plane to Sweden to sign them, only to find out they signed before your flight landed. I also like how the NHL said they made a ruling and no one is allowed to talk about the subject anymore.

Is there a statute of limitations on your butthurt?

Otherwise, take it up with the Ducks. That's who Burke works for.

According to http://www.nhl.com/ice/pa...=86689#&navid=nhl-search:

NHL Draft Order: Picks 15-30
Clubs eliminated first 2 rounds
Non Division winner
Division winner
Clubs eliminated in conference finals
Stanley Cup runner up
Stanley Cup winner

Draft order is not set until the playoffs are over. Your draft position is determined by the round you are eliminated in and then your place in the regular season standings.

That said, you are dead on with the Calgary picks. The only way we don't take Monahan with our first pick is if we trade up or if Barkov is still available at #6 (which is highly unlikely, though maybe the injury will scare some folks off...)

- salumba

I could see Lindholme to Calgary over Monahan

Matteau slashed a game after the whistle, got 2 minutes, other team scored, so the head coach (Matteau's dad is assistant) benched him in the 3rd.

After the game I think he had words with his coach and his teamates, he went back to Montreal with the fans instead of the team or by plane as was offered by the GM/owner.

Taking that a little personally aren't you? Good NHL GM's do what it takes to ensure their team is successful, sometimes they get punished for not adhering to the "spirit" of the rules. In this case NJ got screwed and Tallon, Gillis et al made out like bandits

Just reading through the Panthers saying no big deal for picking second blog and I was thinking, if the NHL truly wants to make the draft a "lottery", they should make every pick from 1-14 a lottery. Draw for first, remove that team and then draw again. This way if you finish last you could still end up drafting 14th. That would certainly put more pressure on teams not to tank their season.

I`m thinking if Domi is around when the canucks pick, they should/will go for him. He is the type of player they need, ie Marchand in Boston. just my 2 cents, always enjoy reading your posts.

Not sure how I'm taking the Devils getting screwed by the NHL personally.

I was just saying if I was a Devils fan, I'd be furious.

Morrisey n Erne are too late.

I'd rather EDM take Zadorov, but one of Nurse or Ristolainen'd be fine too

This is silly. I will give you florida will take the better player and that is the one that made team canada, Drouin. Tampa will buy out vinny this summer and will need a center in a bad way so Mackinnon fits perfectly. Nasville takes Barkov, that is a no brainer since they need the best player possible at this point in the draft. Off chance they trade down for a dman. Calgary has been looking for a Center since the 80s, they will take Monahan as he is amazing.

Edmonton might take valeri but the two year contract might shy them away. If they can get him out in 1 year, I can see them taking him in a heart beat. Just what they need to replace Hemsky and play opposite Yak. Getting a dman makes NO SENSE for them since they have 3 elite d prospects in the system and no forwards. Plus d take longer to mature and they want to play now. Nurse isn't NHL ready and is 2 years away plus he might not be the best guy for the job. Zadorov looks to be a better dman. Lindholm, Horvat, Mantha... are more their style. They want big and they want speed forwards.

Buffalo will take their pick and take whoever they think is best at that time. I don't think they care if it is D or F. NJ will take Domi. Tons of points and he is a leader which they could use in a young guy. Dallas will take the best player available as well, d or f. I don't see them trading down.

I can see the oil moving up in the draft to pick number 5 by trading another draft pick or a prospect to get Monahan. Or trading down with someone like the flames or Columbus. Edmonton has 2 second round picks. The flames have two firsts, columbus 3 firsts. I can see movement there. MacT eluded to liking players ranked higher in the draft and I expect them to be targeting one of the 3 goalies.

Expect the Leafs to take Domi. Leafs do NOT need a goalie. Reimer will be the goalie for the next decade I tend to believe.

It was your "butthurt" comment I was referring to. I agree, if I were a Devils fan, I'd be down right mildly upset.

I can see why the other Oilers fans love you so much

Lecavalier has more than $40m remaining on his contract and TB are not in any cap trouble whatsoever. You think they are just going to flush that money down the drain? And then have to pay someone else to do the job he is doing?

Yeah, I don't like to go into Cloutiers house, he pissed me off too much and I just don't want to add hits, but I was reading through the posts last week and there were plenty Oiler's faithful piling on this guy, it was pretty funny
