Don't quite understand what about a broken jaw would change between the time Sid is cleared to play by docyors and game time. Are they waiting to make sure he doesn't rebreak it during the pregame meal? - Sasquatchernaut
They are just being safe. They are not rushing him back. |

Crosby's status solely in hands of Dr., and X-ray. Issue is whether jaw bone sufficiently healed to withstand contact w/o breaking again |

I'm sure that the team and him know whether or not he is playing tonight. It's just being secretive because it's the playoffs. |

I definitely championed Despres' cause throughout the year but I do have to say that he has played his worst hockey of the year most recently IMO. - Gunner Staal
This is true, but I just have visions of Engelland bobbling the puck and Grabner taking it and skating 75 MPH the other way. |

Again, has nothing to do with that. His jaw has yet to heal to a point where the doctor's no longer fear a quick re-break.
Once he's cleared, he's playing. |

Problem is how do you know until he takes a nice check to the side of the head?
It can't even be a hairline. Look at that college basketball kid who broke his leg in half from a simple play. |

Honestly, it shouldn't make a difference to NYI. You prepare as if Crosby plays, if he doesn't, then he doesn't.
Being secretive doesn't give us any additional benefit. |

You will never know 100%, but X-Rays can tell you if a fracture is healed or not. |

I'm not disagreeing, but it's just the stupid charade that teams play this time of year.

Again, remember; NO ONE said he doesn't already have clearance to play. That has yet to be reported, I'm interested to see how this goes tonight. No one will know he is playing until he steps foot on the ice for the game. This is being kept very close to the vest. |

Or maybe Jokinen has stolen his spot in the line up with his strong play. |

Look more into who practices on the PP today not who line rushes are with. |

Most likely... Maybe Sid can crack the 4th line if Bennett struggles tonight. |

I get that. I'm just questioning the terminology. When I think of a game time decision, I think of a player with a sore groin or sprained ankle hoping it heals up or the painkillers work well enough that he can play. I don't see how a broken jaw affects the ability to play hockey. If it's not healed enough that the very real possibility of a rebreak is there then I don't think 8 hours is going to change that.
I suppose my real gripe is that all this gamesmanship is a little silly. If you ask Capuono, he's preparing for a Pens' team with Crosby regardless of his status.

Plenty of offence. No excuses with or without 87, let him get to where he needs to be for the long haul. |
