I just happen to be an Islander fan who knows A LOT about the game. There are some of us but it's rare in this fan base. - kencan98
Know ALOT?? Really???
You were that kid on teh playground back in school huh. the one who thought he knew everything and the other kids just laughed at. We dont care how knowledgeable you are it means nothing here. We are sports fans of a sport team. We dont care about anything else but drinking beer watching a good game and goign to bed |

Leafs' Fans: Komisarek and a 5th for Tavares!
After that trade happens: "What!? We traded Komisarek AND A FIFTH for Tavares!?!? We got screwed!!!" |

I'm not sure who you are arguing with or what the subject is to be honest.
You just spew out these rants, like everybody is out to get you?!?!
What exactly is your point?
It almost seems you are upset the Isles are in, because it goes against all your theories about how bad the Isles are.
Everybody know they have alot of issues... starting on top with Wang!!!
But even you have to admit it has been a pretty successful year.
The Brooklyn move alone is a win...win!!!
Enjoy it!!! - jimmc7722
I never said the Islanders are bad. I actually have nothing against the team at all. I do think they overachieved this season which is not a bad thing but the month of April is NOT the complete story of the team.
I don't really have a problem with Wang as much as some around here might think. He kept the team in NY and yes, he may not spend like some want him to but at least we have a team to root for still.
My problem with the Islanders, some of their fans, and their management is that they ALWAYS make the wrong move. All I want them to do is to do what every other team in the league would do and I only ask for it one time. For once in the past decade +, just use the 5 pick to pick a #5 player. For once just let a prospect develop so that we actually turn potential into talent.
Take the 2010 draft for example. If they take the 5 pick and grab Fowler, I would have been happy. Back then we don't know if he turns out to be a bust or not but at least we look at the draft and say they were in the fifth spot and made the pick. But they didn't do that and they never do. They make some off the wall pick that turns into garbage. And it happens over and over again.
2008, just make the pick. Maybe Schenn turns out horrible, maybe he's a star. No one knows but at least you made the pick. If you go back and look through the drafts, if the Islanders would have just picked the ranked player that matched their draft position they'd be a much better team then they are today.
Some here (and in the Isles fan base as a whole) are still sold the Isles bill of goods. Every prospect is "the guy we wanted" even though no one on earth ever heard of them before. Every prospect is "NHL ready" the day after the draft. And every prospect is a first line player or the next Lidstrom.
That's my problem and it always has been.
Then when I point out that every other team does it differently than we do, give examples and back up my arguments with facts, people turn to insults because their points are proven wrong.
THIS is what makes us the laughing stock of the league. |

WOULD YOU LET THAT DAMN TAVARES KID DEVELOP!? YOU'RE RUINING HIM!
Edit: Over the past decade, the Islanders have had a top-5 pick 4 times.
2009: Tavares (1) - stinks, trade him
2010: Niederreiter (5) - honestly, not a fan. Good player, but would have preferred a player like Campbell or even Fowler
2011: Strome (5) - bad pick. No way around it. Fine player, but a bad pick.
2012: Reinhart (4) - great pick. Top-notch #2 defenseman prospect. Won't ever win a Norris, but will be very reliable for years to come. |

They won a playoff series in the past 20 years. Quite a few actually. They'll win at least one this year as well in my opinion.
They are doing better than us. |

Well, you made it sound like it's NEVER happened in the past decade+. Here is exactly what you said:
"For once in the past decade +, just use the 5 pick to pick a #5 player. For once just let a prospect develop so that we actually turn potential into talent."
I went back 4 years and found one that worked out okay. So I'd say they did. |

And see this is exactly what I mean. Me saying that Boyes is the only option we have and keeping him is a better option than ruining ANOTHER prospect turns into "He thinks Boyes is the greatest player in the league".
And I'm the idiot? |

Hamonic spent a whopping 18 games in the A. He's awful for a 22 year old |

Yes 1. 1 that anyone would have picked or they would have been fired on the spot or would have had no fans to come home to. |

Oh so your rules on what we can and can't use in our discussion changed now. We can go deeper into the draft? Are you really sure you want to do that?
Hamonic played in the AHL before coming to the NHL. And if you look at a good team, Hamonic is not coming up after 18 games. |

And you said they haven't done it in the past decade +. In the past decade + (going back 12 years) they've had 4 (and Reinharst was last year and hasn't played a game yes, so only 3 really). One of those 3 has worked out. 1/3 of the picks you mentioned have turned into superstars. Look, I'm no Isles fan, but your statement was just incorrect.
You act like every pick the Isles make it the equivalent of picking Thomas Hickey at #4 overall. |
