basically what i'm trying to say is that the 09 pens had Crosby - Malkin - Staal down the middle with Fleury in net. that's the best player in the world, the 2nd best player in the world, a number 1 center on half the teams in the NHL, and a top 5 goalie in the world.
to think that the 2015 isles roster will have players comparable to that is a stretch. JT is the only player that can be compared to Crosby or Malkin...and Malkin > JT. that means the pens 2nd line center is better than your best player on the team!!!
that's why the pens won the cup in 09 and sped their rebuild up dramatically. to expect JT to overtake crosby as the best player in the world and have strome become the next Malkin within 2 years is a stretch. - rangerdanger94
ill wait till 2015...

YOU ADMITTEDLY HAVE ZERO CREDIBILITY!!!
"i'll admit i don't know anything about your goalie prospects."
-rangerdanger94 - LetsGoIsles
I love what Nabby has done for us and he's been fantastic over the last month but the fact is that this team has done a much better job in their own zone by clearing rebounds and not allowing teams to establish their forecheck. That's the catalyst for Nabby's numbers to rise. He's a damn good goalie but he's not a franchise goalie and I think he's far more replaceable than some thing. That said, we should resign him for one more year. Nilsson will likely be ready soon and it seems liek their will be several goalies available via trade |

Okay, final draft rankings per TSN (SI for 2003):
2003 (15) - Eric Fehr
2004 (16) - Lauri Korpikoski
2005 (15) - Alex Bourret
2006 (7) - Peter Mueller
2007 (15) - Mikael Backlund
2008 (5) - Nikita Filatov
2009 (1) - John Tavares
2010 (5) - Cam Fowler
2011 (5) - Sean Couturier
2012 (4) - Griffin Reinhart
I'll give you the 2010 and 2011 picks, as they're superior to the Islanders' actual picks. 2009 and 2012 were dead-on. Otherwise, with MAYBE the exception of 2006 (they took Okposo), the picks they had weren't really any worse than the projected picks.
Any way, it's been a treat seeing you demand over and over that you're right when 95% of the board putting evidence to the contrary to your face, but I have to get to work.
Hope you guys give the Pens a good fight. - jmatchett383
You are referring to the exact match - pick placement and prospect placement. You are ignoring the players that were skipped over. When the Islanders drafted Nilsson in 2003, Parise (ranked 9 in NA) and Getzlaf (ranked 5 in NA) were still available. They chose #9 in EU over the 9 or 5 in NA.
The same can be said for the other drafts as well. If you look at the players available when they picked, they always chose the wrong guy.

By who? You're full of it. No one was over the moon for either player, especially Bailey. Most of us wanted Filatov and were thinking 'Josh who?'. Scouting reports were mixed at best on him. Okposo was big questionmark from Neil Smith. People started saying Iginla based only on race but no one thought he was going to be an elite player. A possible second line power forward was said.
Strome is seen as an elite talent who can be the 1B to Tavares' 1A. He's got tons more talent than either Bailey or Okposo. You're a total revisionist. - keaner17
A lot of Islander fans. I don't remember the names, phone numbers and addresses of every hockey fan I've spoken to since 2006, but the same thing was said over and over again. The cupboard guy just did it again. Look at his "wait till 2015" post. We've never heard that before with a different year at the end? |

lol just cuz i don't know your 3 goalie prospect's life stories doesn't mean i have zero credibility.
cmon man i'm giving your team credit here when talking about your young guys like bailey finally developing and turning into legit players. it's just that nabakov is a great goalie and having him in the cage is the reason you guys finished 8th...the last playoff spot possible. if you guys didn't have him, you would be 10-12. - rangerdanger94
I'd question Bailey a little bit. He's a third liner on good teams and a second liner on bad teams. Nothing more and barely that.
I agree 100% with you on Nabby though. Without him we're done.
And your other post, comparing JT to Sid and Strome to Malkin is a LOT more than just a stretch. |

You're right. I'm wrong. That's all you are getting from now on. Others here are actually having a conversation. I'll focus on them. - kencan98
See, another example of you changing the subject and deflecting. Once again someone has proved you wrong or just plain stupid and you move on to the next guy. Argue, get proven wrong, deflect, ignore, and move on. It's the Kencan way |

yup that's exactly my point.
again, you guys are no longer a basement team and will most likely be a playoff bubble team for the next 3-4 years. you guys are still a ways away from competing for the cup.
of course, this is all educated guessing and speculation based on your team on paper. |

Stop trying to make a case. Anyone if they had the patience could go back and see when you first came on. Stop trying to make believe that you are being so wronged, it's all completely warranted. So how many sites have you been banned from? Was Newsday, Islesforums, and IPB the only three? I doubt that? How many all together? |

You can sit around and talk about all of your 1st overall picks.
And by the way, Strome is going to be pretty good. - Pete V

It's completely warranted to call someone stupid (like you just did) or a "douchebag" like others have just because you disagree?
Why not have an honest discussion about it and leave the insults out of it. |

good lord man. That draft you're talking about was Milbury, who didn't know shat about drafting and didn't know the players. If we're going to talk about the draft and the current team it's only fair to focus on the current GM.
The other thing you're neglecting to notice is that Parise was drafted 17th overall FFS! So not only the Isles, but over half the league let him go past without selecting him!
It's so goddamn easy to second guess the draft 10 years later, every year there's more than half the first rounders alone who never make an impact.

If you want to make the argument easier to prove, sure.
Every top 5 pick they've had since 2000 has been a disaster besides JT. To take it further, every first round pick they've had since JT has not been what we expected and not even close. Again, the only one you can point to is JT. Nelson and 2011 forward are not on the roster and haven't been given a shot so we don't know how they'll turn out. - kencan98
Just not true in either case. Not all top 5 pics are franchise players & not all first round picks are super stars.

A lot of Islanders fans...lol...all types of people!
they're here and there
And I totally agree with the 'wait until 2015' mantra though not everyone does. I think when considering this rebuild was done with only one of the possible three components used to stock the franchise, it should cause a pretty good amount of optimism to realize that the roadblocks of the last 20 years are disapearing. New stadium, playoff appearance, star player, general excitement. Presumeably this team will finally be profitable by that year, which means the shoestring budget disappears. |
