Um, I think it means they're f**cked! 3 straight 1st's couldn't make a difference, what will they do with a lowly 7th? - MJLjr
Your right. Before this we got Paajarvi at 10 and Eberle at 22. In our first round picks. We suck. Wish we had your young talent instead. You burned us good. |

Forget the pick, why not sign a versatile vet like Dainius Zubrus (Lithuanian but speaks Russian obviously)?
You can play him at 3/4C with him slotting up the lineup at the beginning of the season - in fact our centre depth looks pretty good with Nuge, Gags, Horcoff and Zubrus (and maybe Lander up to start the year) - but he can also be a big defensive conscience for either Nuge and Eberle or a yakupov line.
Zubrus-Nugent-Hopkins-Eberle
OR
Hall-Zubrus-Yakupov
OR
Zubrus-Gagner-Yakupov
all look like intriguing lines. - Morris
I am not against it but do you think it would take the 7th overall pick to get him? I would rather give up next years first than this years.

Your "question" makes less sense. Am I serious about what? Being able to get Carolina's pick I think it should be possible. |

Duchene - 3rd overall 2009
Landeskog - 2nd overall 2011
Jones - 1st overall 2013
... is SO much different than:
Hall - 1st overall 2010
Nugent-Hopkins- 1st overall 2011
Yakupov - 1st overall 2012
You guys are just taking longer - MaximumBone
If you had to pick one group of 3 to start a rebuild ... Which do you take ? |

Slow in his old age, that's our jam!
But seriously, instead of exclusively overpaying for prime UFAs, we'll have to nab a few under the radar and/or over the hill guys.
What do you reckon Zubrus' cap hit would look like? less than 3.4 I assume, if you could get him to leave NJ? - Morris
I would rather pay 4-5 for horton or clarkson that 3.4 for Zubrus. |

Future will tell. As is the Oiler roster. Lans wasn't amazing this year. Hall is the best player on the list and no one has seen Jones play at the NHL level. Plus Yak is awesome. In 3-5 years, it might be a whole new story. |

Other than the fact that we knew it would never go to a Western Canadian team, I would still the Huberdeau would win. I knew the league would never give it to the Oil but I don't see why they would screw florida unless they are the team moving in this new shuffle and they don't care about the fan base. |

Wasn't bashing oilers ... Just looked at both and thought it was quite close .... Oilers have 3 high end offensive forwards compared to avs maybe less skilled 3 but maybe more well rounded 3
Also when it comes to trashing the flames youth .... One month of rebuild compared to 3 years of the oil .... Talk to me in 3 years if we are still battling for a top 5 pick |

Lord No. He's a UFA so all we'd have to do is pay him. I just mean that's where we can bring in our russian. |

If Carolina wants a Dman so bad, makes more sense for them to trade down to 9-12 or so. At that spot at least 2 out of Ristolainen, Nurse and Zadorov will still be on the board. - BiggE
I keep hearing Carolina wants a D-man..... I'm pretty sure it's Rutherford who was the first to say he never wants to pick a dman with his first pick because by the time they hit prime they're UFA. |

I would assume it would be considerably less for Zubrus (2.5-3). I don't think you'll get Clarkson or Horton for much less than 5.25 each |

Zubrus is a UFA. We wouldn't be giving anyone the 7th overall. I think there are far better ways to spend our cap money than Zubrus anyways. |

Will be interesting to see. So many of the teams that would typically over pay to get those guys will be over the cap and wont be able to give out stupid contracts unless they get rid of some stupid contracts. I think Horton, Clarkson and Clowe end up signing short term deals hoping that other teams will be able to enter the bidding war in a couple years. I wouldn't give any of them 5 mill long term. But I'd give Horton or Clowe 5 mill for 2 years. Clarkson I would hesitate to give him even that much. Would be better spent than Hemsky. |
