The Flames are going to need to fill the gap. Taking on a shi++y contract like Briere's will also come with some assets as well i.e. young players and picks! Don't be shocked if it happens because its going to happen. Might not be briere per say but I guarantee there will be at least one old overpaid bad contract bum coming to the flames this off season. - The-O-G
Talking Philly, Timmonen. |

So you trade your most skilled winger to get what you need, assuming that is how you go about getting the missing parts? - TandA4Flames
I don't Eberle is our most skilled.
But in all honest I don't move him yet anyway. We have Prv, Gagner, 2013 1st that should be dealt before any of the kids.
Jeff Carter went for a package similar to what our 2013 and Prv/Gagner is. Not that Carter is the answer, but there's a top line center or 2nd line center that went for something other then a superstar. |

Cammy I can see but Feaster has already named Glenner as one of the "untouchables" so I doubt that'll happen. And for a guy that is capable of 20+ goals and physicality and penalty killing at $2.5 mill there's no reason to get rid of him. - Talking_hockey1
Right now sure. |

First of all you went back on your original statement already so... and second of all there is no need for feaster to overspend to get to the cap. That overpaid contract is already being filled pretty well by Cammy, again taking an old player with a bad contract makes no sense and wont happen.

Briere is my prediction.....but if it's not him it will be someone else.
The whole point of taking on a horrible contract is because it will also come along with something for the future, i.e. a pick or a prospect. Teams will PAY to use Calgary for cap relief. Why is this such a bad idea?

GlenX will be here for a couple more years until the gap is bridged a bit more than he should be moved for more young assets. Cammi, with 1 yr left may as well be moved now if possible. Feaster's presser talked about getting bigger and harder to play against. Cammi doesn't fit that. We have younger guys that, given playing time, could develop into his role. ie. Sven |

PHI isn't going to pay poop. They are rich and will buy the mother (frank)er out before giving up an asset with him. |

If it brings a good young prospect/pick and said player only has 1 or max 2 yrs left on the contract it will. Feaster eluded to that cap space being valuable and the problems other teams will have. He "could" have meant something like this. |

In fact, I bet this is how we recoup our 2nd rnd pick. |

Because you are thinking about it from the other team's standpoint, no duh it'll be good for philly because of his issues and his contract but it is a bad move for Calgary. Feaster could easily move up in the draft using the players and picks we have without having to bring in a bum like Briere and there are so many better ways to use our cap space other than being a cap dump for another team. I said it before and i'll say it again, it makes no sense for Calgary and it is not going to happen. Plain and simple. |

Briere will go to Buffalo or New Jersey as both can use the cheap salary, Timonen and Ilya will stay another year.
They've had salary issues before and got out of them very easily. They'll trade a couple guys making 4mil for younger prospects and picks. |

It won't be a guy like Briere, as he has too many years left. that's why I think Timmonen, he is still useful and only has 1 year left at $6mil. If healthy, he could even ring back a 1st or at least 2nd at the DL next season. |

Colin I like your picks with the exception of the Rangers over Washington. Ovie's playing like a man possessed right now... I could see them being the one team to actually take a run at Boston or Pitt to create a surprise final matchup in the East. - jtommyt
Though I agree about Ovie, I just think the Rangers have better playoff players and one heck of a goalie. Edge to Rangers. |
